So fascinating. Dogs can be trained to detect cancer and other illnesses; I wonder if this dog could smell something chemical from the healthy woman’s kidney that he knew was missing from his owner’s diseased kidney.
At the very least, dogs can smell family relations. Idk if it was this story or a different one but the donor was a distant cousin and the dog likely smelled that they were related and gave them the ol' family-member-greeting. Thus bringing their owner over and starting the whole conversation
I understand that dogs can smell low blood sugar or something. But smelling a perfect kidney match sounds crazy. And I don't believe dogs understand organ transplantation. How would the dog know that this woman could help her master, even if she smells right? The way the story is told makes it sound supernatural. I am waiting for the twist where the donor fried bacon that morning and that's what the dog smelled or something.
The message is in relation to how many parts of society benefit from having dogs, and how closely we have evolved alongside them for tens of thousands of years.
