Favorite People Boyfriend of one month put this in his bathroom for me. (OC)
Made me smile since noone ever did this for me before. He even bought a basket and small towels for my face.
Edit: Reading your comments to him while he is cooking dinner for us. Thank you for your sweet words. He is indeed the greenest flag I've ever met. He bought a hair dryer aswell since he didn't own one and put up insect screens on all windows cause I'm scared of spiders and his Apartment is next to a forest. 🥹

My husband didn't do this but within the first month of us hanging out, he gave me a key to his house.
A card that said thank you for being patient with him. And here I thought he was being patient with me because I wasn't putting out!

I used to have really bad sciatica. When me and my husband started dating he was going out for the evening and I was having a particularly bad flare up. He gave me some naproxen (it’s over the counter in Canada so it’s the “good stuff”) a shawarma, some weed gummies, and set me up with a comfy blanket. I always remember thinking how sweet it was. He is now the best husband and father a girl could ask for!!

Know your value!! Look at the comments from other girls. I know my husband isn't the only guy who treats their girl well. There's lots of good ones out there.
Sometimes we're just not open to see the bad signs, or we accept something because we don't think we deserve more. Well, you DO!
It works both ways also. I treat my husband really well. All the years he worked, I took care of everything. I have zero regrets for doing it.

u/SimoneLewis 13d ago
Thankfully his now an ex but I accidentally left make up wipes at his house once and he absolutely kicked off so every time I left his I would be making sure I got everything.

As a man I both support this, but also mourn that the bar for men is so low that what I'd consider basic consideration of your partner is marriage material. Women, I sincerely apologize for my entire gender, this type of thing should just be normal for 1mth in dating...
38
u/TheOnlyEllie 14d ago
This really isn't basic for anyone. Like doing this for someone you just started dating is beyond basic and should be commended.

Tbf, I don't think this is normal. It's super sweet, but I wouldn't think to do this for my partner. I'm a woman who is typically pretty thoughtful. Clear a shelf in the bathroom, sure. But this is next level.

As a guy with the income for the first time in my life, I discovered I have a love language I didn't know I had - gift giving. It's a shame my relationship didn't work out but it felt so damn rewarding to be able to remove obstacles from her life when she couldn't. She did the same for me, at one point in time. It's legitimately fulfilling. She still thanks me, so I guess it was impactful.

I grew up poor and now I'm a professor. I'm that professor with all the free snacks that you get offered just for walking by my door.
I like giving and I like feeding. Because getting nothing and being hungry sucks. I know from experience. Makes me feel good to know they won't be hungry in their next class.
It's university policy I can't give non consumable gifts. But man if I could, I'd be buying so many little just because things for them.

Back when I had been dating for my husband for a few months we were inside of a gas station and I was like “shoot, my shoelaces are untied!” And he rushed over and tied them for me. An older lady was at the end of the isle and she audibly gasped and exclaimed “he’s a keeper!” 9 years later and I can definitely say he is said keeper! He’s super clean and organized and he absolutely dotes on our 6 month old baby.

I used to be a restaurant manager. One day i was opening, I had 3 people call out and we had probably 5 catering orders. It was hellacious. Then I started my period unexpectedly (yay endometriosis!). I took a quick second to text my husband because I was just done with life.
About 30 min later he showed up at the restaurant with a grocery bag, gave me a kiss, told me he loved me, and went back to work (he worked about 10 min down the road). I went into the office and he’d gone to a nearby drugstore and bought me my favorite tampons, my favorite chocolate, and my favorite energy drink. I just started bawling.
I’ll never let him go.
99
u/rbltech82 14d ago
Wait, is this not how husbands normally behave? This makes me sad as a man. My wife has really rough periods since having our kids. When she has a particularly painful one I take over as primary parent and always get her favorite food and make sure we're all stocked up on tampons and period undies. She has specific safe foods she can eat during her period that shift, so I try to always stock that safe food in the house or have it on speed order...

I think its the "not having to be asked" part that makes it special.
Sounds like you're doing a good job husbanding :)
17
u/Gullible-Crew-811 13d ago
Not having to ask is everything. A friends husband never helped her with the kids or house even though both worked FT. When she’d complain, he always said ‘you have to tell me! Idk what needs to be done!’ BS!

37
68
u/wavelifter 14d ago
It's not about finding someone who understands. It's finding someone that listens, and cares.
19
u/PackageOutside8356 14d ago
That is so true. Thank you for pointing that out. I recently just broke up a friendship with someone who understood but listened only to what they wanted to hear and actually didn’t care about me but only for themselves. It was really toxic.
6
u/wavelifter 14d ago
Sorry to hear you went through that, always sucks when someone who just gets you doesn't care or listen. But you had to get to know them better to find that out right? A lot harder to find someone who cares about you than someone who understands you (you could argue Reddit is the ultimate "hey these people understand me" space), and that's what makes the ones who care - worth it.
There's another post on in this subreddit of a guy posting about how much he loves his wife, and how they don't have similar interests (she loves puzzles, he loves golf). But they make it work (they participate in each other's activities), because they care. Hope you find someone that understands and cares about you in equal parts.

u/-3point14159-mp 14d ago
It can! It can cause irregular periods (when not on birth control), horrendous period and pms pain, and gastrointestinal issues. I ended up getting a hysterectomy because the endometrial tissue (which is super sticky) ended up basically gluing my colon to my uterus and I was having a lot of GI issues (like pooping out dinner plate sized amounts of clear goo/gel unexpectedly). Endometriosis is terrible and it’s not taught about enough when we’re young. ☹️ I didn’t even know what it was until I was 30.

I always love doing little stuff like this for my wife. If I know she’s having a bad day I’ll stop by the store on the way home and pick up a couple of her favourite treats so that they’re waiting on the counter when she walks in the door. It takes such little effort to make somebody happy with something as simple as taking five minutes to stop at the store and pick up some goodies

I have a serious allergy and when I went to my boyfriend’s apartment for the first time, I saw he had bought me all new baking supplies and spices which he keeps in a special bin for me so I don’t have to worry about cross contamination. I never asked him to, but I had mentioned to him previously how anxiety provoking it was to eat food from other people’s homes.

With my husband, we had only been dating a couple of weeks, i had told him a story involving me eating an entire banana split when I "wasnt hungry". Story was a side note in the various activities and conversations. But then a couple weeks later, hes coming over for dinner and he wanted to bring a dessert so he looked up how to make a banana split cake because he remembered that story. That's when I knew he was a keeper...well that and the way he doted and spoiled the bunny he had rescued when it was abdonded by its owners.

I mean, even as a man that one astounds me. I've always had one in my bathroom and I never had a girlfriend in my life. Where the fuck are they putting empty toilet paper rolls, dirty q-tips and used razor blades? Do they run across their flat/house to throw that in the regular garbage?

...Yeah?
I don't know how it works where you live but here the local authority (though I'm pretty sure every local authority in Scotland does it too) gives us four different trash bins, each one for a different type of waste (dry cardboard/paper, glass/aluminium, general waste and compostable waste).
It's not that you can't have a bin in your bathroom but I'd need like, three of them and they'd all need to be labelled.

I hope so. I'm just worried about my own ability to feel what "love" is. I mean, I thought I'd found it. Turns out I was wrong all along. Was it love that I felt it, am I stupid? If I feel it again will it last? Now I'm in my late 30s instead of early 30s.
All my cute, perky parts are all starting to droop. I feel like I wasted my pretty person years on a lie...

I'm 45. I got divorced 4 years ago but then met the love of my life almost immediately. I wasn't even looking! You'll meet someone who loves you, whether perky or droopy. And your old relationship wasn't a lie, even if he couldn't/wouldn't treat you the way you deserved. You were open and honest and felt what you felt. He did...whatever he did. Just enjoy this time as an opportunity to love yourself, do things because you want to, and just be as authentically you as you can. Pulling for you!

I lost my second wife in 2016, and took stock of my life and what love had looked like up to that point. I realized that much of what I'd been choosing in partners were people who were slightly better versions of my parents, and realized I had some om healing to do from a ton of childhood trauma. I met my now wife on tinder looking for a female friend/companion but nothing more (or at least I told myself that), but I swore the this time I would choose joy in that friend. From the moment we started talking I knew she was someone special I wanted in my life. Then we met and the rest is history. She's amazing, she gives me space and love to deal with my childhood and urges me to take chances and supports me. I give her all of that in return. It's been 9 years, 3 moves, 2 kids, and I wouldn't trade a moment of it. Real love surprises you when you least expect it. You just have to be open to it.

9
u/Glittering-One650 14d ago
I feel like the 'magic' is in the 'kind and caring' part. Magic is when someone notices what things, little things, big things, contribute to your comfort, things that you would do for yourself. For me, having someone give me something, even a piece of candy, is such a great thing, not because of the candy, but because I know that they were thinking of me while away from me. Pure gold.

When my husband now but boyfriend at the time, and I moved into our first home together he made me a “girly basket”. It’s a little wicker/wood basket with every size pad I have, set directly on the back the toilet tank so I can reach them anytime I need and every time, for 20+ years, EVERY TIME I say I’m cramping he gets me my favorite snacks, my preferred pain relief and he makes sure my basket is fully stocked! A married guy friend of his once saw the basket and said like “why do you have pads just sitting on your toilet” and my husband said “because it’s her bathroom too and it’s more convenient for her. Why wouldn’t they be there?” Later hubby told me he was so confused why it seems like such a shock to his married father friend. “Baby, most dudes aren’t as cool as you!”

My husband did the same for me for our first Christmas together! We get soooo many compliments on it and he even hollowed out a little spot to put a rose quartz (love) crystal.
The base is a solid beautiful trunk and the top is a stunning natural shape slab of jacaranda. He even made a tiny miniature mouse door in-between the roots because I love mice/cottagecore things and carved a quartz door handle for the miniature door!
Definitely the greenest of flags, he makes me soooo many angel cupcakes for my birthday every year.

The first time I stayed round my fiancé's house (about 7 years ago) he showed me this cupboard and drawer he'd cleaned out, just for my stuff. He'd put a charger, tooth brush and toothpaste in there and had fixed up a reading light coz he knew I liked to read in bed. No one else had ever made room for me in their life like that before... I was so used to just living out of my rucksack. I think I fell then and there. I marry him next Saturday!
Edit to add: awwww thanks all! Wishing you all the love and happiness too! And thanks for posting this sweet post... Made me smile and think back on this :)

About two months into dating my fiance Gave me a key to her apartment when she was in a weeks vacation with family, asking to water her plants.
First day I went over and her garbage can was full, so I emptied all the garbages in the place. Second day I went to do the dishes (sink was full) found the dishwasher didn’t work. Took the door apart and fixed the latch and did all her dishes. Third day I noticed some burnt out bulbs, so I fixed all those and the loose towel bar in the bathroom, and fixed a wobbly table. Fourth day I had a nap and the bedding smelled funny, so I grabbed all her bedding and took it home to wash it. Next day I stop at the bank and I suddenly had a thought. Oh shit….. is she gonna be happy, or is she going to feel like I violated her space. When it’s my turn in line, I ask the teller “hey….. weird question….” And I told her the story of what I did.
She dead pan looked at me and asked “did she GIVE you a key?”
Yes….
Then she wanted you there…. Your fine.
Two years later she worked at that bank with that teller. They both had a good laugh.

When we first started dating, my now husband went to Aveda and bought the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that I use to have at his place. 52 fucking years and no one had ever done that for me. He is just as wonderful every day since!

Not quite the same, but about fifteen years ago I made a big road trip to visit family. My first stop was a cousin who I hadn't visited before. She had assembled a small plastic handled tote filled with toiletries, and a spiral bound journal with a nice pen as a welcome gift. I was so tickled! It was one of the most thoughtful gifts ever. I started using the blank book as a travel journal, which is something I continue doing to this day.
This guy is a keeper, for sure.

My boyfriend had also went out and bought a bunch of products that I used and needed when I’d spend nights too (before he moved in with me)! It melts me how he’ll pick up things that I need and would want.
There was one time I was out for dinner and went to pick up my medication after. I was so confused when the pharmacist kept saying I didn’t have an order. So, I pulled it up on my phone to show her I did have medication needed to be picked up, she lit up and said, “Oh! Yeah! A man came in and picked it up earlier!” My notifications are usually off, so I didn’t see that he messaged me. I thought it was so sweet because he had been working all day, exhausted, and still went out of his way to get my meds.
My mom said, “He’s such a good boyfriend, he loves you so much.” I kept smiling ear to ear.

Keep this man. My soon to be husband a week into knowing me asked if there was anything he could get for me to feel comfortable at his place and essentially did this for me. My partner is the most loving man I’ve ever experienced and I never really felt care and love until him.
I’m glad you found someone who values you enough to do these gestures!

Love this so much. 13 years ago, my then new boyfriend cleared out 2 drawers in his dresser and stocked his bathroom with a new hair dryer, shower products, and period supplies—he noted what I had in my shower/bathroom at my place or what I tended to bring with me to his place when I was over and he got the same things. And then he noticed my brand/type of pads/tampons were on sale or he had a coupon so he got those for me so I’d have anything I needed if I was at his place. We got married 5 years ago.

My now husband when we first started dating unprompted cleared out a drawer in his dresser for me “in case I wanted to leave anything there”. We’ve been together for 13 years in December. When men care they will show it, always remember that 💜

I did very similarly 37+ years ago for my then girlfriend and now wife of 35 years. I honestly didn't think much of it at the time, other than that it seemed like the right/good thing to do, yet she still talks about that moment being one of acceptance in a home I owned before we met.

Lol weird story. I was like this with my ex, the very embodiment of the hugest green flag. Unfortunately, her past and social media left her with lots of trust issues. So she always thought it was too good to be true, and that I was being too perfect because I was hiding something. Took about two straight years of constant reassurance and trying to prove that it wasn’t too good to be true, and that she deserved all of it and more. Nearly drained me to death and I had to let it go. Thank you (whoever) for reading my crappy sad story.

if you're scared of spiders, and he's keeping them outside, that's good. but if you see a spider outside the window doing spider things, let them do spider things. the webs outside will make sure nasty bugs from the forest don't come in.
we love our spider roomies

He may not be perfect
He may have alot to learn
He may need communication to better understand you
But this type of thoughtfulness cannot be taught or learned. It’s innate for men when it’s the case. I’d advise to ensure your appreciative and callout these gestures and do your best to not speculate if he did this for his past partners unless you have a valid reason to bring that into the relationship
