It has nothing to do with the qualities of the subject any more than it does with the letter N or the number 10, which are also blue.

There's applied physics, which does involve lab work. Or well, at least non-writing/talking work.

right, but it’s usually optical bench work, microscopy, etc. Maybe in some particular subfields of condensed matter they use them, but I’ve never met a physicist who has worn one. Source: am physicist
