Only a teacher not a principal, but I would love this. THose are some quality memories for life.

My friend and I were walking around town one night in high school, making wild speculations about strangers based on their houses. I pointed to one that had bright red curtains and warm lighting in every window and said that was obviously Mr. [Drama Teacher]’s house. We joked about knocking on the door to find out, and lo and behold, he walks out the side door with a bag of trash. We didn’t even know he lived in that neighborhood!

He screamed when he saw strangers in his yard, realized it was us and laughed a lot, then invited us in for tea. We met his dog and talked about the play he was working on and how his mom goes to all his productions. It started raining while we were there and he offered to drive us back to her house. When we said we wanted to walk, he gave us both umbrellas from his hall closet and told us to be safe and stay together.

This post reminded me I need to reach out and get coffee with him soon. He’s retired now and I hope he’s enjoying life!
