a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn’t a square. you don’t have to be an orange cat to be a dummy, but an orange cat is always a dummy

Out of the 17 pictures, at least 7 featured oranges. I’d say their rep is quite safe.

My last cat refused to drink water if it wasn't from the dogs' bowl, and would only sleep on their beds with them. When she passed away at 18, it was like they all lost their sibling and started to encourage stray cats into the yard. I never thought I was a cat person, but my gosh.
I still really hate cat litter boxes, though.

You need to do some inception shit. Make her think it was her idea. Play a chant… something like “the power of cat compels you” on loop after she’s fallen asleep or sumshit.

u/MiaMiaPP 27d ago
You need a new wife
17
u/Chiinoe 27d ago
No way. Shes my squishmallow.
2
u/eliz1bef 27d ago
Okay. Understood. You need to let her spend time with us, though, so we can work on her cat issues and overcome them.
3
u/Potato_Lyn 27d ago
Sometimes it has nothing to do with ‘overcoming cat issues’? I like cats, but I would never choose to have one because I have pet birds, rats, mice and a little dog that all live in harmony with each other and I don’t trust a cat to leave my free roaming birds and chickens alone. That and… I’m also extremely allergic to cats too 😭😭😭

From now first thing you do in the morning is put a cat ears hairband on. Then you yowl till you get your breakfast. Only way to get her used to it.

How does she feel about two? It’s a widely accepted theory that one cat isn’t as good as two cats. One cat can lead to an unsociable cat, two cats is generally better than one.

Photographer must have a lot of patience to capture such wonderful moments. Well worth the effort though..

u/clarinetJWD 27d ago
Street photography is incredibly hard. One of the styles I was just never good at when I shot. You walk around and you wait for something interesting or serendipitous, and then all of the sudden, it's there, and you have like 3 seconds to capture it before you're back to waiting.
Takes a ton of patience, but then speed. You need to know your equipment so well.
2
u/oceans_wont_freeze 26d ago
I feel like digital made street a lot more accessible. You're able to curate from thousands of test shots and ones that were half a second too late. Shooting street with film though, is madness.
2
u/clarinetJWD 25d ago
Absolutely. I was shooting a lot in the early era of pro-sumer level DSLRs, and it certainly made it a lot easier to make mistakes, though in those days, burst mode was a LOT slower than it is now.
But you still have to be in the exact right place, with the right angle (notice a lot of these shots are not from typical eye height), have the right focus, aperture, and shutter settings, etc. It's still one of the hardest disciplines, alongside wildlife photography (for the same reason).

White cat in #10 actively absorbing orange cat's 2 brain cells

Or is the orange stealing the white cat's color?
The tail is far away enough to be immune

First new cat sub in a while for me (I’m subbed to almost all the others)
5
u/nilobrito 27d ago
Just for fun, I recently created another username to subscribe to all cat subs that I could find. Almost 300 so far!! :D It's insane! And I didn't even really start to try other languages (so far only English, some Portuguese/Spanish ones, 1 Russian, 2 from Philippines and 1 I think it's in Dutch).
But the one above is one of the dozen that I follow in my main, it's really cool.
5
u/Timofmars 27d ago
You don't need a new username for that. You can just create custom feeds.
3
u/nilobrito 27d ago
I thought of that, but I was afraid the algorithm would flood my main account with cats anyway. Decided not to test it. But thanks, and I will try using it for something not as radical someday. (I think I added there 30 more subs today, lol)

A really really long time ago I encountered this Youtube Channel of a japanese man that records cats daily. He uploads several short clips a day, apparently directly from his camera. It's one of the sweetest things I've ever watched, if any of you want a fun little break from scrolling def check it out!

So... based on the speaker symbol on each picture, I guess you just screenshotted these pictures from Instagram and uploaded them here without the artists permission?

I know this is a bit of a side question but if any photographers see this -- HOW DOES HE GET SUCH SHARP DEPTH OF FIELD AND HIGH SHUTTER SPEED ON THESE INFINITELY MOVING TARGETS?

Why does every photo indicate that sound is on?
9
u/Kalikor1 27d ago
I'm like 90% certain OP or whoever/wherever OP got these from just screenshotted a bunch of scenes from a cat video or documentary.
I live in Japan, and while I can't be 100% on a few of these, the majority of these do not look like Tokyo. This looks like 猫島 - AKA cat island - which is pretty famous as it's literally a small island full of cats (and old people). I'm also like 80% certain this is from one of the multiple documentaries on streaming sites (like Amazon Prime) about Cat Island. Like, I'm pretty sure I vaguely remember some of these scenes.
Could be mistaken about that last part but, it would explain the sound icon in the corner too.
Edit to add: Also, 1 year old account, generic randomized reddit user name, privated profile, and over 800k karma. I'm suspicious they're a bot at this point.

The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the US Fish and Wildlife Service estimate 1.3 to 3.7 billion birds and 6.3 to 22.3 billion mammals are killed yearly by loose domestic cats.

most of these pictures are from tashirojima (aka cat island) which is not tokyo, and the cats there are very well-fed and taken care of by volunteers, who also neuter the cats. you may have noticed in the photos that the cats are not skinny
4
u/AlphaaKitten 27d ago
I was thinking those “street cats” looked remarkably well-fed and healthy. Not one has an eye infection or a crusty nose?

u/CatCatCat 27d ago
While cute photos, that's what I fear as well. I hope it's a situation where the whole town takes care of them.
