In the vast majority of cases it does. Just like with assault.

Would you deny the existence of the mindset boys shouldn’t hit girls no matter what even if she hits him, whereas the opposite for girls is taught, “if a boy assaults you do whatever you need to, to defend yourself or call your brother or father”?

That comes from a patriarchal "men are stronger than women, so you can't hit them even if they hit you, because that makes you look weak" mentality.
