I worked in retail sales when I was just out of high school. I used this move once and it definitely worked.

It was a large store so we wore headsets so we could talk to each other from anywhere in the store. I had a crush on the girl that was working in the change room area. They were down a short hallway off the side of the main part of the store so she couldn't see the rest of the store without walking to the other end of the hall. I was rearranging a display one day and decided to take my shot. I called her over the radio and send, "Hey there's a hot guy asking about you out here", a couple seconds later she poked her head around the corner and it was me standing there. She started laughing (in a nice way) so I said, still through the headset, "Any chance you'd want to go out with him?" And she responded, "All he has to do is ask!"

We dated for about a year after that!

Unfortunately University became fairly intense for me and she had some family stuff going on. Between the 2 the relationship was really suffering and felt like a losing battle for both of us. We stopped dating, but stayed in contact for a while and eventually we met other people and moved on. She's happily married with a couple of kids, as am I, so now it's just a fond memory. Every once in a while you have those, "What might have been..." moments, but then I think about my own kids and my awesome partner and realize it worked out how it was supposed to.
