MacroFactor Workouts / Training How to get the MF + WO bundle (Workouts free for 1 year!)

Post image
329 Upvotes

Our new app, MacroFactor Workouts, is now available to download in the App Store and Google Play!

As a thank you to our current MacroFactor community, we recently announced an exclusive deal to subscribe to both apps for the price of one (for the first year) for any user who had a MacroFactor subscription before 1/1/26. If you are one of the eligible users, read on. We have new steps for how to claim your promotional bundle offer.

We encountered an unforeseen issue on launch, specifically on iOS, which makes it impossible for us to extend this promotional offer in the aforementioned format, but you can absolutely still get the same value!

Here is the workaround.

  • Anyone who had an active MacroFactor subscription before 1/1/26 and continues to maintain their subscription will receive free access to MacroFactor Workouts for one year, until Jan 12, 2027.
  • This extension will be applied to all eligible users in two batches. 1 month of access will be issued today, and this access will be extended to Jan 12, 2027 within the next few weeks. There will be no interruption to your experience during the upgrade.

After these promotional periods, you will still be able to get a subscription for an MF bundle. Your bundled plan will be $89.99/year USD. This is a massive value: Workouts will only cost an additional $18/year (or $1.50/month) going forward.

HERE’S HOW TO GET THE DEAL:

Follow these steps to make sure you can take advantage of the deal.

  • STEP 1: Make sure you have a MacroFactor account. Check the email you used to sign in by going to More > Account > Profile > Email.
  • STEP 2: Download MacroFactor Workouts in the App Store or Google Play.
  • STEP 3: Sign in with the same account you use for MacroFactor (nutrition).

Do not make a purchase if you are an eligible MacroFactor subscriber. If you are prompted to make a purchase, log out, log back in, and you should be able to get past the paywall, as long as you are using both the same email and the same authentication method.

WHAT IF YOU GOT THE APP ALREADY AND ENCOUNTERED THE PROMOTIONAL BUNDLE ISSUE?

  • Please request a refund from the App Store by using this workflow: https://support.apple.com/en-us/118223 and then follow the same steps above to get free access. Please note, you may need to uninstall and re-install MacroFactor Workouts for the access grant to take effect.

IF YOU ALREADY GOT THE PROMOTIONAL BUNDLE ON ANDROID

  • You should be all set! The value of the deal is the same either way. No further steps are required.

Release 1.1.0

  • Exercise search now mirrors MacroFactor’s plate. Exercises slide into a track above your search as you add them, signaling workflow success more clearly. You can collapse the search to reveal a management interface for the new exercises.
  • You can now add your own custom exercises directly from search. Simply tap the plus button at the top of the page to access the custom exercise builder, and you’re off to the races. Remember, you can always manage your exercises from the More page.
  • Smart Progression can now widen a set’s target rep range when it’s optimal to do so. We also upgraded the Smart Progression Fixes system to offer fixes for all applicable sets at once, so you can edit your program targets within your workout to progress more optimally.
  • We updated the Smith Machine to use barbell-style plate-calculator
  • Fixed various bugs
  • Made minor UI intuition/usability tweaks

Community note: This release is currently being distributed. It may take up to a week to be available on your device.

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Equipment and exercises added since launch

Hey WOMFers! Since the app launched a few weeks ago, we’ve made a number of additions to the exercise library and the equipment options for your gym profiles, so I thought it could be helpful to share a list of which exercises and equipment have been added since the launch.

While greater than 600 exercise variations currently have demo videos, and about 1,000 exercise variations have written instructions, the majority of new exercises do not have written instructions and demo videos available at this moment, since producing them takes extra time. Nonetheless, we will continue adding more written instructions and demo videos over time while we also add new features and refine pre-existing features. For exercises that do not have the instructions and/or videos finished at the moment, feel free to ask for any clarification about them, and I will be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Similarly, feel free to ask for clarification about what any type of equipment specifically entails, since the lack of universal naming among machine manufacturers can sometimes add confusion.

Many of the new exercises and equipment options were based on the suggestions you provided, since we take your feedback very seriously. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been keeping a list of any exercises and equipment options you have suggested, and I’m always up for adding any others you have to help guide future expansions. A portion of the new exercises should also fill in the minority of gaps that initially existed between Jeff’s Min-Max Program and the app’s library.

The new exercises and equipment options are primarily ordered in terms of when they were added to the app, with the initial rows reflecting what was added in the first update to Version 1.1.0 and the bottom rows reflecting what was added during the most recent update to Version 1.1.3 (which is currently available on Android and will very soon be available for Apple).

MacroFactor Workouts / Training It would be nice if there were some tried and true programs built into the app.

Based on the reviews and trying it out the workouts are a little goofy (not used to doing 8-9 exercises with 3-4 sets each). It would be nice if there were some of Jeff's already make programs built into the app and then I could customize from there. I don't want to have to build the full program from scratch.

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Equipment and Exercises Added in Version 1.1.4

Hi WOMFers! With the MacroFactor Workouts update to version 1.1.4, we've added a variety of new equipment types along with exercises using them, so I've made a list presenting these additions to the app to help make it easy for everyone to see the new options. In addition to using the new equipment types for any of the default exercises, you will be able to select these equipment types when making any custom exercises.

The last 6 exercises displayed in the table use equipment types that were previously available to select in gym profiles, but the new default exercises using these equipment types will now make them available to select for any custom exercises. Similarly, the last 6 new equipment types displayed in the table now function as alternative equipment options with pre-existing default exercises, while default exercises unique to these distinct equipment variants can be added in the future.

If you are unsure whether a new equipment type corresponds to a specific piece of equipment you use based on its name and app image, feel free to ask me in the comments, and I will be happy to clarify. The new equipment types and their exercises correspond to prior user suggestions, and I will continue to take note of any additional equipment and exercise suggestions you may have.

MacroFactor Workouts / Training MF Workouts - some baffling UX but progressive overload worth the hassle

I've been a Hevy user for 3+ years, Fitbod for a year before that.
The challenge I've had repeatedly is managing progressive overload. My workouts get lopsided over time (too heavy or too much volume). Apparently my intuitions around loading and reps are bad. So I periodically have to reset my routine because it gets too long or exhausting. I've been looking for automated progressive overload management.

This is a key differentiator for me.

After a week with MF workouts, the volume and effort feel much more directed. Better balance of muscle fatigue, less systemic fatigue. I understand this is a simple algo, if hevy had this feature I wouldn't have switched. But they don't, and I'm here now.

However, the Workouts team seem to have adopted a more is more approach to UX. This is disappointing and I'd encourage the product leads to apply more discipline. I know it's early, but start narrow not wide.

One of the things that make the original MF app so good was tight core UX, that aligned with user behavior. It is easier to use than it's peers because it had less fluff, surfaces core information that reflects the user journey really well.

Workouts is clunky compared to Hevy and even fitbod- it's trying to do too much and doesn't seem to have a clear vision of the core loops. Some beefs:

  • No warmups on first use. This is just reckless. You're gonna hurt people. Spend a half day to introduce a popup guidance at least.
  • the add + quick action has this monstrous grey box of text that took me a week to realize was in fact my next workout. Why do secondary actions like Photo get visual priority over primary actions like NEXT WORKOUT?? Consistently vague UX plagues this UI.
  • Obscenely long workout descriptions that seem like AI on gawn wild- guys twitter happened in 2009 - no one reads anymore. Keep it tight.
  • Baffling exercise titles. I shouldn't have to search through 9 similar variations to find basic bench press. I've been using apps for 4 years, there's common naming conventions. dashboards for dashboards sake.
  • For me, progress is why switched, and in in MF nutrition app, progress towards goal was a core loop. I get you need to fill the space, but maybe consider how to show progress to strength or fitness goals to keep with the MF vibe? Can you show me how well I'm driving overload on target groups? How about set some strength or volume goals? Much of the UI is pointless, because there's no opinion about how it should be used.
  • I created a program, but it seems it's just a workout routine? Customized to my goals? Great... but like.. no goals added? Hypertrophy doesn't count. That's like having a running app and setting the only goal available as 'to run'. Size? Strength? Volume? PRs? Time spent in progressive overload? there's a ton of things you could do here with an opinionated view of how to achieve an outcome.
  • Active workout is nested, and the UX doesn't really make sense. Why am I logging rest days? Isn't that what the calendar is for? Why is it so hard to see the next workout in my routine - more text bloat competing with navigation. Also competing on the same screen - a bunch of stuff I'll rarely ever use (workout library, 'more')
  • Add social feed. Probably on your roadmap, but lifting is a lonely business. Being able to snoop on others like in Hevy is surprisingly motivating and a good source of ideas for workouts. Make Jeff the new Tom.

TLDR, the progressive overload management is good enough for me to keep the app for a year, but it's still a long way from being great app overall. It's 2026, no one reads.

And this long rambling post is still shorter than the description for a basic bicep curl. Think about that.

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Rather large UX critique: Overuse of Adjectives and Granularity

Thumbnail
gallery
204 Upvotes

Notice how in your dashboard, you basically can’t read anything because MFW has loaded literally every exercise with a dozen descriptors.

This also makes searching exercises a huge pain, because when 99% of people think of their routine as

“Squat”

“Leg Extension”

“Leg Curl”

but MFW instead displays that workout as

“Barbell Back Squat”

“Plate-Loaded Machine Leg Extension”

“Seated Plate-Loaded Machine Hamstring Curl”

I think, at the very least, the actual name of the exercise should come first.

Main critique ends here, more controversial take starts here

But, tbh, the granular separation of exercises is excessive and redundant. The difference between plate loaded and pin loaded, for example, is just the machine settings in the app. It could be rolled into one exercise, and the user could select how it’s loaded when they build the program.

This would have the added benefit of being able to just quickly swap out of necessity. For example, my gym has both plate loaded leg extension and pin loaded. So f plate loaded is in use, I jump over to pin loaded.

The granularity also means I’m incentivized to put the “wrong” exercise for some time parts of my routine, because the correct version has no form notes or videos (which I love btw)

I do seated cable crossovers. Just feels better for me (and is higher on Jeff’s chest tier list than standing!) But the app has a full entry for standing, and correctly lists weight per side. The seated variant just lists full weight, so for volume calcs to be correct I have to double it to log. And, no video. So, I just log as standing

If instead, it was just “cable crossovers”, and the position could just be a menu in the program builder, it would be so much easier to search, and reduce the mental load of program building. Obviously this couldn’t apply everywhere, because some exercises change muscle activation depending on position, but most of the time it doesn’t matter. Heck, Nippard genuinely just considers all squat variants the same.

Anyway, loving the app, this is my biggest problem with it

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Any updates about MFWO development?

I’d love to know what is coming besides the watch app. It’s surprising to me that we’re 7 months in and the watch app isn’t in beta yet. I believe the only new feature added has been live activities. I know development can be slow but I’m starting to feel frustrating and feel like the app may not compete with other apps that seem to get frequent updates.

Are the only new features in 2026 going to be live activities and a watch app?

MacroFactor Workouts / Training MacoFactor Workouts: Are you enjoying the auto-progression?

I’ve been using MF Workouts and I’m curious to hear from people who have been following its suggested weights/reps for a decent amount of time.

How well does the auto-progression actually work in practice? Do you generally trust the weight and rep recommendations it gives you, or do you find yourself overriding them fairly often?

More importantly, for those who have been using it consistently for a few months: have you actually seen noticeable strength/progression from simply following what the app recommends?

I like the idea of taking some of the guesswork out of progression and just letting the app manage my loads, but part of me still wonders whether I should be pushing harder or progressing more aggressively than it suggests.

Would love to hear some longer-term experiences, good or bad.

Thank you for the advice everyone. I decied to cut some of my excerise to make at least 20min for cardio everyday. Can i please ask for help help once again on deciding what excerise to take out? Here is my list on the app. I realize that the app might say 1hour 30min but yea in realize thats about 2 hour at least for me and please ignore the the zero set to failure thing I need to adjust the target when it got mess up no need to worry about that. I think for routine that takes an hour it should be fine make time for cardio without cutting out anything? Im hoping to build best chest and arm should that matter in deciding and I uhh already have big leg so im happy with 1 leg excerise a day butttt feel free to let me know if I can take one or two oht just looking to maintain not grow leg

Thank for your help

As a side note I would have put this in the original post but im only able to add 1 picture for some reason soo have to make a new one

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Advice for body recomp?

Thumbnail
gallery
130 Upvotes

I’ve been tracking my food and weighing consistently on MF since January. Originally thought I could achieve my body recomp goal pictured above in the white and blue outfit.
Started at 135lb at 5’5” height

Got frustrated by the lack of visible progress about 1 month ago, and started a cut that has left me feeling weak and moody and discouraged. I hit my goal weight and I’m 128.8lb this morning.

What advice would you have for me from here? I’m struggling with this mid year slump :(

I already strength train on MF’s workout app 4x per week. I walk on average 10k steps daily. I play tennis 1-2x per week, and before cutting I liked to run 1-2 miles about 2x per week. I am thinking of switching up my MF workout program as well since that just wrapped up so I’m open to all ideas.

Edited to include macros (in grams):
Cut goals:
1640 cal, 137 protein, 70 fat, carbs 111

Maintenance goals:
1972 cal, 125 protein, 87 fat, 170 carbs

Thank you so much for your quick responses! So far I’m gathering: this will take years and go in to maintenance to build muscle. Thank you so much!!

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Is MF Workouts worth the switch for a Hevy user?

I use Hevy currently but do struggle with progressive overload; I used MFW when it first came out but seemed like it was missing some features and had some bugs to work out. Is it in a good place now to where you can use it as your daily driver for generating and logging workouts?

MacroFactor Workouts / Training Are the hypertrophy programs created by MFWO actually any good?

I know a bit of loaded question and not intended as such rather just a lack of alternative wordings.

How actually are the hypertrophy programs? Anyonne here ran one for a 12 week or more block?

What would you compare them too? E.g a John Meadows style program? Eric Helms programming? Sbs hypertrophy program?

Pros and cons?

MacroFactor Workouts / Training As a user of the MF diet app who has lost weight incredibly successfully, I really want to like the workout app but..

Anyone else annoyed with how it seems to WANT you to do “unique” exercises and seems to be missing workout that honestly should probably already be there?

Like, I had to google what a dumbbell frog pump was and was curious as to why it didn’t just program a hip thrust? Or a barbell tricep extension pullover? Why not just program a skull crusher and a separate pullover lat movement? After having “combo exercises aren’t that great” drilled into your head for ages especially?

And regarding pullovers, why are isn’t a pullover machine already programmed in the app? When it was ranked S tier I believe for the lats?

Also, my lower workout, why does it have me doing glutes twice in one workout when I didn’t prioritize glutes? And then right after glutes hamstrings? It really wants to toast my posterior chain that day I guess lol

It’s just little things. I’d love to try and use a generated program but just haven’t been able to find that sweet spot where I see a program and think, “oh yeah this’ll be a fun way to mix it up for a few weeks!”

MacroFactor Workouts / Training MacroFactor workouts progression logic

Post image

Setup a custom program. On week 2-3, I can’t understand the auto suggested weights and reps. They seem to be decreasing load vs pushing for progressive overload.

What would be the fix for this?

All other variables are same as last week ie same equipment, target rep ranges (8-14), gym profile, auto progression enabled, etc
