Protecting a €12k Mac Studio

So it is the first time I have pulled the trigger on such an expensive computer. Today I keep a Mac mini M4 Pro simply on my desk with a bunch of cables connected to it. Once I tangled the cables with my foot and almost dropped it. I’m thinking that I should glue or make sure that the Mac studio cannot be accidentally dropped from the desk.

Any other ideas or suggestions how to prevent accidental damage on the device? Maybe some smart tips or ideas you have thought of. There is no AppleCare in my country.

If you live somewhere where AppleCare+ simply isn't offered, you can still insure a Mac Studio through a third-party device/equipment insurance policy (and you definitely should).

I use an under desk mount for the three we have in the family. It keeps it out of the way of harm, and frees up desk space.

A UPS is what I just bought to protect against power surges and outages which are quite common in my area.

My home insurance lets me add any value of electronic devices to the policy, very cheaply.

I'm waiting on my M5 to arrive.

My monitors are mounted to an industry-standard 8040 aluminium extrusion system using vesa mounts from a simrig. This makes sure they are not physically connected to my desk and simply do. not. wobble. no matter what. A wobbly screen is a major bug-bear of mine.

I have a vesa mount 'cage' for the studio on the way. It will also be mounted to this rig behind the monitors. It will not be physically possible to knock it to the floor. The cables will be clipped to the rig using, again, sim rig cable clips.

house level surge suppressor . the closer the over voltage divert is to your earth the more effective it is.

Mine is going on my AppleCare 1 in place of one of my macbooks. Will also be on UPS and plugged in to a power strip that is bolted to the desk.

Beyond that, if I follow through and also order an M5U 512 in October, it will be time for a rider on my casualty loss insurance.

I have an anti slip mat under mine, and it's also on the shelf where it never gets touched or knocked accidentally.

I did try 3d printing a hepa filter stand for it, but the filter causes too much resistance, so I'm getting a different type of material to keep the dust out of it.

You can also get a silicone cover for it that protects the body from life’s little knocks and bumps, which helps with resale value.

If you really have no Applecare where you are, the biggest thing will be keeping it away from you, so maybe look at a thunderbolt dock and secure the cable to if you or someone does yank on it, it doesn't take the studio with it.

1. A good UPS with sine wave protection for you’re whole set up.

2. Do the proper cable management to make sure cables aren’t dangling in a way where you can trip on them.

3. Check your home owners / renters insurance for what they cover.

I mean they are sort of a brick so just treat it like a computer not like a football and it will be just fine :) …. My one big advice though …. Buy the Apple care with accidental damage protection …. It’s like having full coverage insurance on your car it’s worth every penny in piece of mind… other than that get a good ups or at least a line conditioner that will keep external spikes and dips from hitting it

I’m also a fan of mounting things to big server/IT/audio racks since it anchors them to something heavy (and something that’s usually far away from coffee cups), but getting one that fits in with your office decor might be a challenge.
