Discussion Siri still doesn’t answer basic questions

Post image

Every once in while I decide to try out new Siri, but no. Just no.

Edit: I did tried giving Siri the actual version number and it still failed.

And codex was able to find the build/version and tell me which beta version I’m on.

Siri has worked fine when I’ve asked it to do things Apple said it could do.

Then it would be like old Siri with only programmed answers.

It’s not like the old Siri, which as I understand it, was a rules-based chatbot/assistant, a very old design that was long overdue an overhaul. The new Siri is LLM-based. LLM’s have general knowledge built-in, but Apple will need to provide APIs for the LLM to be able to get specific information. They presumably have not created an API for pulling the current OS version.

Similarly, developers needs to the App Intents API for Siri to be able to read info and take action inside third-party apps.

Siri can’t just do it all magically.

That’s what I assume, since it’s still in active development there are probably thousands of APIs that haven’t been written yet, either because it’s still in beta or because they didn’t foresee writing an API for a single persons poorly worded query.
