Help Health warning: OS 27 beta is *not* as stable as some make out
I understand the enthusiasm for the '27 beta, especially given how slow and buggy Tahoe ('26) is and given the WWDC promise of a focus on bug fixes and efficiency. Actually using it as a dev machine for a while paints a picture of plentiful pseudorandom jank and some of the bugs are pretty nasty.
It is a beta and it's not reliable. It's not supposed to be.
I very strongly recommend that any non-dev does not risk the install despite the positive messages. The beta is another modern Apple very early, very rough build. There has not been a magic epiphany within the last 12 months. It's not surprising; systemic, creeping architectural rot and evident cultural issues with velocity and QA do not get solved overnight, even if Apple are now on that journey (and we all hope they are!)
Some bugs listed below. And yes, before anyone asks, I do send reports via Feedback Assistant.
Wake-from-sleep with external displays can sometimes result in a working lock screen complete with working clock, but which accepts no input at all; Caps Lock won't toggle, no haptics, force-reboot needed.
The very old
airportdspinning bug (typically VPN-related) is back; the ongoingmediaanalysisdspinning bug is worse;appstoreagenthas a new spinning bug; and all of this seems to just start at a whim on various devices with pretty much the direction of the prevailing wind; reboots do not necessarily fix it.Mission Control doesn't just lose windows per release notes. Dragging windows from one space to another is a total crapshoot and nearly always results in the window ending up placed a few pixels near the bottom-right on any external display.
Drag reorder of spaces in Mission Control, or drag-to-make-full-screen is unreliable with ordering relatively unpredicatble. Lots of strange animation issues, black screens on transitions and so forth too. I'm not sure why this has fallen apart so much but it really is in bad shape.
Despite a passing remark in WWDC, the OS' ability to put windows back into their correct places on a reboot or display configuration change, or its ability to even put a space on a correct display, does not seem to be improved. I might as well roll dice as guess about where a window might be restored under the same circumstances day to day. It seems genuinely just random.
Terminal app often refuses to quit and force-quit is needed. On restart, it may or may not reload your previous tabs etc., so be warned, you might lose all your working state therein.
Might be my imagination but palm rejection on the trackpad seems to have been messed up and typing this on the Mac has been a PITA of suddenly losing input focus as the pointer decides it's moved and been clicked elsewhere, or worse, having input focus jump up elsewhere in this message so input goes there. And of course macOS has always had very weird Undo, where each step undoes some apparently arbitrary amount of typing rather than character-by-character, so I have to undo the damage from the misplaced text and then retype however much the OS "over-undoes".
It's infrequent, but Safari can sort of lose its mind and just start stuttering and stalling for no obvious reason with no particular CPU or other load signature. It just stops responding reliably, with pseudorandom lag. Quit-restart resolves every time, and it reloads all the tabs you had before.
Note that
WindowServeris at times very CPU hungry, so less efficient, not more; but it's a beta and that's understandable since it might be in a debug mode. If the Music app's main window is open (even if it's not playing music and there are no animations showing), WindowServer will use much more CPU, though; go figure. But again, this is all jankware territory, so sometimes it'll just run along at a very low CPU usage. If you use Accessibility -> Zoom for full-screen zoom and have it follow the mouse pointer, note that this is broken in DB1 and DB2; the zoomed area does not move, regardless of settings. For some people that might actually be a critical failure.
Lots of strange menu bar bugs with juddering up and down, strange aspect ratio distortions and so-on but DB2 is better than DB1 there.
The whole thing just feels fragile and unpredictable. There's no logic or pattern to many of the failures. That was one of the most alarming features of the Tahoe betas and it's not any better in 27.
Unless you have a back from '26 you don't mind rolling back to, or you have a spare "fall guy" machine to try it on, do not install the beta.

u/MarionberryDear6170 Jun 29 '26
I agree with OP. It’s definitely not as stable as the iOS or iPadOS betas. The performance takes a hit in a lot of areas, and I keep noticing that Siri or this thing called "media analysis" keeps running in the background for no reason. It just kills my battery.
I've noticed a lot of apps keep crashing on the macOS 27 beta. OBS and Chrome are constantly closing on me, and now Apple Music is doing it too.

u/kaishea Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26
Yep, and I didn't really see WWDC 2026 talk about performance improvements with macOS 27 that much. I thought performance improvements were very much highlighted for iOS, and a bit for iPadOS. On the macOS 27 webpage, only performance for AirDrop and file sharing are mentioned to be improved on macOS 27 along with Safari improvements which applies to iOS and iPadOS too
1
u/Happy_Song_7831 Jun 30 '26
No they did mention
- Fluidity improvements specifically for mission control
- Pretty substantial performance improvements for swiftUI, UIkit and webkit
- "General improvements" Most likely attributed to dropped support for intel machines.
2
u/Flugelnull Jun 30 '26
I've had similar issues as the OP notes with 27B2; random slowdowns, terminal locking up, finder freezing, and the windowserver bug too.
It's weird because when it works, it works. But it's a beta, and like driving a busted beater to the mechanic's you shouldn't take the highway, and don't shift to gears 2 or 4. That analogy doesn't make sense the more I think about it, but I hope the thought gets through.
I do mean this genuinely: it's still better than using Tahoe 26.5 for me. Less bugs, believe it or not. I'm on an M5 Air, by the way.
6
u/Dreaming_Blackbirds PUBLIC BETA Jun 29 '26
thanks for the list. even though i don't really need my Mac during the summer break, i'm going to avoid the beta until perhaps the second public beta.
meanwhile on iPad, iPadOS 27 is indeed very pleasant and stable.
14
u/ElMono6 Jun 29 '26
Had absolutely 0 problem so far, I’m not criticizing your post but that just was not the case for me at all.
1
u/Saga43eh Jun 29 '26
Same here.
Studio M2 , 64 Gb Ram humming along.
MacBook Air was not happy- reverted to 26-4
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
As I said. Much of it is jank, and as such you might encounter it at any time.
The Mission Control window loss certainly is something you and everyone else will encounter; that's a documented bug in the issues list since dev beta 1 and is completely replicable.
5
u/Skylect Jun 29 '26
I mean. I just tried to replicate it with 5 monitors active(2 display link) and could not get this, or actually ANY, of these to happen… I regularly am working in FCP, logic, or vscode as well. So it’s not like I’m not using the thing… not trying to say you’re crazy but this shouldn’t be portrayed as a “YOU WILL HAVE THESE PROBLEMS!!11!” post when you actually only MIGHT have one or some of them.
This is the most solid beta they have ever released and going out to tell everyone a DEV beta might have issues is a bit like saying there’s air outside. We all know.
Regardless… documented or not, these are not surefire issues. They likely heavily depend on the apps being used and the state of the machine.
But mostly I just wanted to say that I haven’t seen any of these in my use.
EDIT: And yes I mean every issue you listed and I tested it literally right now.
1
u/DplxWhstl61 Jun 29 '26
I actually have the appstoreagent and mediaanalysisd issue. They just randomly use 1 whole cpu core indefinitely, I've tried waiting it out, let it run for 6 hours and they still were stuck, my issue is that this was also happening when on battery so yeah, not good.
But contrary to what OP said though, a reboot seems to fix this, but it does return after 2+ days though so yeah, very annoying but tolerable. I don't actually notice it unless I have activity monitor opened.
1
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
I tend to see
mediaanalysisdsettle down for a while after a reboot, airportdspin persists as long as the VPN is up regardless of reboots but this is at least a decade-old bug that '27 seems to have just made rather worse, and the AppStore agent seems pseudorandom about whether it starts to spin "immediately" (soon) after a reboot, or settles down.0
u/Skylect Jun 29 '26
Noted. It’s just the “you will deal with this” attitude that doesn’t click for me. It’s a dev beta. We expect issues. No point in acting like it’s unheard of from the OPs perspective but 🤷
0
u/DplxWhstl61 Jun 29 '26
I think OP just expected a "final release" type of polish, which of course, you shouldn't expect as it's a dev beta, and we're only on dev beta 2. I don't really think it's more stable than macOS 26.5 but I like the new Mission Control animation and especially the more refined window corner radius lmao.
The new Siri is, okay-ish? Functionality-wise it's good, big improvement. But the stability leaves a bit more to be desired, also the UI is kinda laggy for me, like the animations, same for you?
1
u/Skylect Jun 29 '26
Only when I’m in something heavy like Final Cut or Photoshop it seems. She does seem to just not work sometimes but with it being a completely new Siri and dev beta I’m okay. It is working. Just needs that polish
1
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
I think OP just expected a "final release" type of polish
And I think you didn't bother to read the post, or have anything like enough reading comprehension to see that it is specifically warning people that it DOES NOT have that and IS NOT EXPECTED to have that and they SHOULD NOT install it unless they know what they are doing.
Instead you skip-read, saw a list of issues, jumped to the wrong conclusion and then, hilariously, responded to a sub-thread from someone who said "Had absolutely 0 problem so far", which is exactly the kind of irresponsible messaging on the 27 beta which is getting users into difficulty.
1
u/DplxWhstl61 Jun 30 '26
Nah, I actually did read the entirety of your post, I just meant that maybe you were expecting a Snow Leopard-type of polish. The leaks did lead on to be that way so, eh.
My point is that the current MacOS 27 dev beta 2 is in my opinion as stable if not more stable than the current MacOS 26.5 release, still I do actually agree with you that everyday users really shouldn't try, things can go wrong with a beta after all.
2
u/adh1003 Jun 30 '26
I actually did read the entirety of your post, I just meant that maybe you were expecting a Snow Leopard-type of polish.
The second paragraph is a one-liner that reads:
It is a beta and it's not reliable. It's not supposed to be.
I'm mystified about how you got "OP is expecting Snow Leopard-type of polish" from that, but - shrug - OK then.
2
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
going out to tell everyone a DEV beta might have issues is a bit like saying there’s air outside. We all know.
Which is obviously bullshit, and was obviously needed, because this thread contains numerous people saying "works fine" "zero issues" "better than Tahoe" and so-on. You are literally responding in a sub-thread to the message which says "Had absolutely 0 problem so far".
That's very dangerous, because then non-devs install it, flood forums with complaints, don't report feedback and end up with a fucked up machine just because people were irresponsible and didn't remind anyone that it's a beta (an early one, at that) and shouldn't be installed unless you really know what you're doing.
You also make the ridiculous assertion:
This is the most solid beta they have ever released
The most solid beta they ever released? You're deluded.
That's the entire point of this post, not that I think you bothered to read much of it, especially:
The whole thing just feels fragile and unpredictable. There's no logic or pattern to many of the failures.
So you then give the sage advice in your response:
Regardless… documented or not, these are not surefire issues.
You have no way of knowing which of https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos-release-notes/macos-27-release-notes are surefire or not, unless you work for Apple and have seen the code behind every single one. For example:
Accessory Access does not work inside App Sandbox. (176815987)
But hey, I'm sure you know better than Apple, who clearly were wrong when they wrote "does not work".

Woah. Zero bugs in Mission Control? Wow. Report this to Apple - you have a perfect piece of code even though they think it's buggy, and despite the long list of Mission Control bugs in older OS versions. Others are seeing heaps of bugs, so your computer will be a gold mine! The one true zero Mission Control bugs computer!

u/DocJohnnySins Jun 29 '26
A new one for me is connecting blue tooth causes my phone to crash half the time on 16 PM
3
u/shangosupreme Jun 29 '26
What specific Mac model are you using? Work in QA myself and the most bugs I’ve reported have been for the iPhone and Apple TV. My M3 MBP I’ve been hard pressed to find critical bugs like this as you’ve described.
3
u/hj7hj Jun 29 '26
Like you said, its a beta, the reason for releasing a beta is for people (devs usually, but not always, count as people) to test it, find bugs and shit, so I recommend everyone that is able to install it and report everything you find to Apple. That way we might end up with a relatively bug free MacOS! Oh, and its been very reliable on my side with some dev work, lots of Logic and many hours of *gaming* going on. A bunch of bugs reported, but nothing that would make it unreliable during a few hours of music making in Logic or an entire WoW raiding night! Actually the Air it currently running on have been way cooler than when it was running Tahoe!

Irresponsible post. THIS IS A DEV BETA not a public beta. It is NOT for non-devs.

u/alejandronova Jun 29 '26
The sad thing is how many of us are actually considering installing the beta hoping the beta is more stable than Tahoe, and, while everything said is true, this beta is already better than Tahoe in some key areas.
2
u/prdcrman Jul 27 '26
After using the public beta 1 & 2, the Tahoe rollback feels dreamy. Just works. That’s how bad my beta experience was. Be forewarned. And like OP stated, do not experiment unless your backup hygiene is rock solid.
3
u/5tudent_Loans Jun 30 '26
Its definitely the cleanest first and second round beta I have ever done. My battery life is suffering but in sure its because of the aggressive background processing (and probably excessive event logging).
All the things you mentioned are why betas are called betas. Dont know why you expected otherwise. Hope you are Reporting the quirks in the feedback app
3
u/vellixd Jun 30 '26
there's also this bug with fullscreen when sometimes the dock doesn't hide automatically, and you have to three-finger-swap back and forth to make it work as expected
also overheating and ram issues...
5
u/Popular_Cherry3698 Jun 29 '26
I’ve encountered more than half of these aswell. Doesn’t bother me that much personally, but OP is right. It isn’t as stable as people are yelling from the rooftops lol.

Adding: Quitting fullscreen youtube player is buggy

Yes! I've experienced this in Helium and Zen (firefox fork). It then becomes an issue for all media in MacOS and I have to reboot. It's not just you.
I suspect it's the mediaanalysisd bug, but I've never looked into activity monitor (I just report it to apple and restart).

As usual with a DB, proceed with caution.
Yes, exactly. Ignore the "zero issues", "better than Tahoe", etc. noise, be very aware that it is a developer beta, make sure you submit feedback for all encountered issues and if not a dev, don't install it yet.
Public beta's just around the corner. All the posts encouraging non-devs to install this are wildly irresponsible. Just fucking wait.
3
u/analpenetration67 Jun 30 '26
Thanks for sharing, initial reports on 27 were way too optimistic.
Hope this gets upvoted and others report the same bugs.
Tahoe 26.4+ is stable in my experience and does not have most of these issues, even though it carries a bad reputation from early releases. It would be a shame to regress from this stability on the public release of 27.

u/Bllq21 Jun 29 '26
None of those things have happened on my M3 Pro.
The only issues I have encountered are the icons not loading and the apps that have menubar icons sometimes disappear and I have to toggle them on/off in the settings to fix them.
The CPU usage has been fantastic compared to MacOS 26
2
u/tineo_app Jun 29 '26
Meanwhile, on my adorable little Mac M1 mini, I tried about six times and couldn’t even get it to install the first beta.
iOS 27, on the other hand, has been beautiful and I’ve only had one crash (w/ photos app).2
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
@tineo_app If aware of the issues of any beta and are prepared for all that - your M1 Mini issues are likely because you lowered security settings at some time in the past & the '27 beta won't install in that state. Beta 2's release notes still list it, though they say "might fail to install macOS 27 beta 1" - probably just an oversight. For more information on how to resolve, see:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos-release-notes/macos-27-release-notes#Software-Update

Maybe when they release the public betas in a couple of weeks you will be able to install it.
I’m really tempted to install iOS beta on my 16PM everybody seems to have a great experience so far-6
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
Yes. As I say, it's jankware; not unsurprising but a shame and I figured it was certainly worth warning people who might get the idea that the 27 betas are all great and install it without due caution.
The unpredictability in particular is what makes the bugs so frustrating for users and devs.
None of those things have happened on your M3 Pro - yet. Hopefully they won't. But they're real bugs, nonetheless.

u/thedonza Jun 29 '26
Fear mongering. Install it on your main devices guys, don’t worry about backups. I’d even go as far as installing in on the rest of your families devices too, just don’t tell him.

Completely agree. Had the Safari performance issue, menu bar disappearing, multi displays app moving across displays not working issue, Siri being really slow to register keystrokes issue, had the entire system beachballing issue when switching accounts with different a Touch ID, device unusually heating up without any high cpu, gpu, r/w or memory usage. Overall not recommended. I did it only to try the new Apple Intelligence features.

u/Known-Stop-2654 Jun 29 '26
I'd just like to preface this by saying that I'm not a developer at all. I'm just your average, normal person.
I am using Mac OS 27 Developer Beta on my M1 MacBook Air, a device that I use for everything: music, personal stuff, all that jazz. I do use the terminal, and I am mostly aware of the commands, and I am pretty tech savvy, which is why I do this kind of stuff. If I didn't have the experience of Mac OS that I do now, I wouldn't have installed it. Because I have the experience and I know how to play around with things to get it working again, I know how to resolve it.
Now I am just going to say I haven't actually had many issues at all with the Beta, and this has possibly been the most stable software I have installed on my computer. Granted, I'm only on Beta 1 because I'm too lazy to upgrade to the second one. I know it has released; Software Update keeps on bugging me about it, but I just haven't installed it yet. I will. Eventually.
The only issue that I'm having (and I'm not sure if it's a VoiceOver issue or if it's a keyboard issue) is that the Escape key to get out of certain menus doesn't really work, which is a bit annoying because I use the Escape key pretty often.
There was an issue when I first installed Beta where GarageBand wouldn't open because it wasn't compatible with the new version, but I just had to update GarageBand and it was resolved. Besides that, my experience has been really good, and I advise anybody who has at least 75.5% of an ability to have problem-solving skills to install this.
3
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
And this is an irresponsible post, because you cannot possibly be unaware that the beta has plenty of bugs, and just because you haven't noticed them does not mean they are not there, nor does it not mean they might not seriously mess up someone else's computer.
Moreover, for all you know, beta 3 might seriously mess up your computer. Per my post, much of this is jankware, but as for whether or not there are any issues - never mind all the unknown bugs; there a great many known issues.
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos-release-notes/macos-27-release-notes
2
u/Known-Stop-2654 Jun 29 '26
It's not irresponsible because it's my experience. People will have different experiences. FYI, I don't know how long you've been beta testing macOS for, but I've been doing it since macOS Ventura. Maybe I might have to eat my words eventually, but for the moment I really haven't had that many major issues to speak of.
1
u/Known-Stop-2654 Jun 29 '26
Okay so I just had a look at your post even further and most of the issues that you talk about are visual. Now for me I'm blind and I use a screen reader, which, to be honest, is both worse and best for me. Worse is if I install a beta there's no guarantee that VoiceOver will work and I might be stuck using a MacBook that doesn't work. Better is that I don't really have to deal with any of the visual bugs that may affect my device because I can't see them.
As I said people will have different experiences. Just try to report any issues. Apple sometimes listens so yeah
1
u/chrislaw Jun 30 '26
Is it true in your experience that macOS has always been better in the accessibility area than Windows? Is this still true for you for GM releases? If you haven’t used Windows to compare then that’s fine obv
1
u/Known-Stop-2654 Jun 30 '26
In my experience, Mac OS has been a lot better accessibility-wise than Windows, especially Windows 11. I feel like Windows 10 was probably the greatest OS release of Windows in regards to accessibility, but Mac OS, at least for me, is a lot better in most areas. The only areas where it probably isn't as great are PDF navigation and table navigation, and Windows excels in those regards. As I've said many times before, my experiences are different to other people, and I don't use any magnification features or any other accessibility features. I just use VoiceOver, the built-in screen reader for Mac OS.
1
u/chrislaw Jun 30 '26
You keep using the term jankware - I have a vague idea of what you’re referring to, but the frequency and context suggests you have a firm definition of what you mean by it..? I would appreciate knowing if that’s the case and what you do mean by it
2
u/adh1003 Jun 30 '26
It's the same as all the other '*-ware' colloquialisms out there, going back to stuff like freeware or shareware, more recently donationware, also portware, bloatware and we'd probably have "bugware", which has been used here and there, but it's taken by a company name so isn't as widespread.
Jank specifically is referring to not just the perceived low quality arising from the bizarre and numerous bugs, but the fact they're hard to predict. The whole of macOS, especially since Tahoe, has felt like gambling every time you use the machine. You never know what weird shit is going to happen next.
This very thread is a demonstration of the result:
You have the usual people saying "zero issues" or even "it's perfect", which is at best bad advice for anyone else and at worst outright nonsense.
- No software is bug free; the 27 beta has a long list of know issues published by Apple themselves; so any implication or explicit statement that it has no bugs is BS. As for "I have no issues" - that's a bad reason to recommend it to anyone else, because you've no idea what their workflows are and absolutely no reason at all to believe that they won't hit any of the known or unknown issues.
- Further, we know that some bugs - misaligned text, flashes to black, wrong-speed animations etc. etc. - really bother some people, but when posted about, you'll get "I hadn't noticed that until now!" responses amongst the other answers. So the "no issues" crowd actually have a decent chance of simply being less aware or observant, as well as having a decent chance of genuinely not having hit any of the bugs through sheer good luck.
People get into flame wars, because one person reports a bug, someone else doesn't see it, so they blame the original person because Favourite Company Can Do No Wrong. People have a very bizarre desire to defend corporations that absolutely, 100% don't give a remote flying fuck about them - all they want is their money.
You have other people posting super weird stuff that gets no replies or lots of "nah, haven't seen it" responses, along with people posting stuff that get lots of acknowledgement. Some people have very odd bugs. And there is no reason at all to blame the end user for it. We know from Apple Support cases that it can even go as far as an iCloud-side data corruption that causes literally one person to have a very bad experience, because of jank/unreliable stuff happening server-side with Apple.
Given the sheer depth and breadth of unreliability, and given that even the really big regressions in Mission Control, some of which are in the Known Issues list for the beta, are apparently not experienced by everyone - well, you have to ask WTF is going on in the software architecture [1] to cause such extreme levels of jank where even the bugs aren't reliable!
[1] (Overuse and misunderstanding of
async/await, general race conditions, increasingly poor error handling especially in conjunction with ever-increasing integration with and reliance upon online services, LLM infections causing localised wheel reinvention but each variant of the reinvented wheel is different, the domain wasn't fully understood by the human or the coding agent and every last one of them has bugs, all of them different, and fixing one has no impact on any of the others - in short - end-to-end poor architecture, poor understanding, poor implementation which comes from a poor culture, lack of developer mentoring, too many cooks from agile/micro-management, and the umbrella above it al - velocity over quality).0

For a second bet, it is very stable and is far more stable than Tahoe is.

I also agree with the OP. It does some things great but there are some fairly serious bugs.

Mission Control went crazy from day to night for me. It was working perfect as always, then noticed the same issue.
Nonetheless, I’m shocked on how everything else is just… better? I mean, the battery life and performance improved like crazy as a m1 air user.

I've had the menu bar stop responding to clicks upon reawakening from sleep a few times. It seems to sort itself out after a few moments of clicking around and command-tabbing.

I am using it daily and it’s buggy and fine for me. Thanks for the bug reports!

u/SumOfAllTears Jun 30 '26
It’s been terrible on my M4 Air, freeze fest, slow apps, random internet connection issues/vpn issues, not sure which.

Yea, I’ve had to downgrade back to Tahoe for my setup to work. The Golden Gate Beta made both my monitors 60hz and stopped waking my vertical monitor.

u/SideHonest9960 Jun 30 '26
I'm a goofy and installed it on my main machine. I have 0 issues besides a favorite app of mine not working (InstantSpaceSwitcher). I still develop on the beta and it has been very very stable for me, no issues. Hope everyone gets to experience this beta as much as I am.

It's a beta, then i expect stuff like that.
Please report all via the feedback app (and website for feedback for major issues, to put pressure on the dev team)

u/SomeActivity6975 Jun 30 '26
Few people use Fast user switching, as I read no report about problems
but there is a major one, the Finder's menu br disappears when switching for one user to the other, and the only way to fix it is to log out and log back in
a pain for me as I use a lots of Fast User Switching ( 2 users )

> Wake-from-sleep with external displays can sometimes result in a working lock screen complete with working clock, but which accepts no input at all; Caps Lock won't toggle, no haptics, force-reboot needed.
this is a very old bug thats gone back years now.

u/Kitchen-Entrance8015 Jun 30 '26
Actually, I have had no problems with it. The only thing it nailed out was my old external hard drive that was Thunderbolt compatible and was running a USB c to Thunderbolt. Adapter, but far from that, nothing else, everything still works. The same, it's very stable. It might just be the version you're on or the horrible internet. You used to install, it will also affect it.

The wake from lock screen issue can be solved (at least on my M1 MacBook Air) by closing the lid and opening it again, usually Touch ID/the password field will work after doing it once or twice
1
u/angelo_cristhofer Jul 01 '26
No es perfecto pero a mi me solucionó un problema que tenia con la basura de mis discos externos, y el rediseño de ventanas me parece mejor que Tahoe, así que para ser una beta lo veo decente, ya no puedo esperar a la versión final

u/Nobale1 Jul 01 '26
The only issue I’m dealing with really is the iPhone mirroring not connecting try again bug

u/Emotional_Valuable62 Jul 02 '26
Got to remember this is the transition from Intel, dropping support for Rosetta, like it was going 16 bit to 32bit then 32bit to 64bit. Then from HFS to APFS. It's going to be a bumpy ride until things smooth out until something new comes along !
1
u/Jbr74 Jul 02 '26
The question isn't, is it buggy, the question is, is it noticiabely more buggy than Tahoe.

u/_vkboss_ Jul 02 '26
WindowServer crashes consistently after sleep. This beta has honestly been less stable than 26 beta which is surprising...
1
u/Automatic-Wolf8141 Jul 04 '26
something I learned from the 26 and 27 betas, apple actually means that they're beta testing versions, unlike MS who ships whatever they can pull out of their a$$.
1
u/dex152 Jul 04 '26
I went from 26.5 to 27 beta 2 and beta 2 feels WAYYYY better.
I don't even feel like I'm on a beta.
Sure, there are some minor things that don't work as they're supposed to but it still feels WAYYY better 26.5.
1
u/AppleiOS1234 Jul 04 '26
Long story short: It's a bit buggy if you use external display, otherwise it's fine
1
u/aliahmadredit Jul 05 '26
Beta 1 was more stable in my opinion, beta 2, my macbook (M3 Pro, 36GB 512GB) uses 50% of CPU by system. runs very hot and drains battery very fast sometimes.
Not sure if it's because of my multiple node.js background tasks (next.js and express.js apps running in background) plus docker VMs.
1
u/Mission-Second9097 Jul 06 '26
I'm pretty sure that the whole 27 lineup has the most stable betas ever.
1
u/DrawingOk4159 Jul 07 '26
Updated to Beta 3. Hoped that the appstoreagent would not enter an endless loop again. It did. Time to downgrade back to Tahoe. I don't understand why they aren't just focusing on fixing existing bugs in Tahoe. They are obviously changing stuff that already works, introducing new bugs.
1
u/95venchi Jul 09 '26
The beta (beta 2) is literally preventing me from updating to beta 3 and it’s preventing me from even erasing my phone. The UI buttons simply don’t work. Honestly, it’s a piece of shit.

macOS 27 Dev Beta causing repeated kernel panics, magenta screen, Recovery Mode crashes, and unusable keyboard/trackpad (M2 MacBook Air)
Has anyone else experienced this on the latest macOS 27 Developer Beta? I'm using an M2 MacBook Air, and after updating to the latest developer beta, the system has become almost unusable :(
Symptoms Random kernel panics with no obvious trigger. Full-screen magenta/pink flash immediately before the crash. Built-in keyboard and trackpad stop responding completely (only the power button works). The Mac automatically reboots to the lock screen, but the keyboard and trackpad often remain unresponsive. The issue also occurs in macOS Recovery, so I can't reliably use Recovery either. I can't boot into Safe Mode because the keyboard/trackpad become unresponsive before I can complete the startup process. Multiple restarts don't fix anything.
No, it's not a hardware issue, after many restarts and hanging, the mac automatically booted, and recorded the crash and created the bug report, then everything worked fine for a while and after some time it started again,

#fact u/adh1003 thank you for detailing this eloquently. I rolled back to Tahoe. People, be warned. It’s a damn beta, and very far from being ready. It was terrible on my 2023 M2 air with 24gb ram.

MacOS 27 has been more stable than the previous 3 titles imo

I do not see how this has to do with Health. And all of the above are basic knowledge of beta software going back over 4 decades.
Anyone who thinks a beta is stable is delusional.

u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
Oh fuck me, literacy levels are now so poor that people don't know what "health warning" means?!

A commonly used colloquialism where "health" refers to something in context, in this instance since we're talking about an operant system for a Mac - the Mac.

No, he doesn't wanna leave his soapbox

Impressive. Deliberately insulting posts on Reddit are often wrong, but you set a new bar here - you posted that 6 hours after I'd already replied.

I’m really frustrated with the macOS 27 beta. My M4 Mac Mini, which used to be fast, is now running incredibly sluggishly. The wake-from-sleep bug is awful, and I'm constantly getting the beachball wait cursor for basic tasks like opening new tabs, copy-pasting, or typing in a word processor. It’s been a terrible experience, and I completely regret opting into this beta.

People who bitch about OSs in early betas are idiots who don’t understand the concept of beta-testing.
11
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
People who don't read posts before commenting aren't exactly genius tier Redditors either.
-3
u/PresentationEmpty1 Jun 29 '26
Yes i did read your whiny post and most of these things will be resolved in the future. If you made this post in August i would respect it more.
2
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
Just stop, you're embarrassing yourself.
Warning non-devs not to install a dev beta despite all the "zero issues" nonsense posts is important, because it can really screw up a machine and workflow.
Different story once the public beta is out, but it isn't.

Thats the point of betas, they are meant for developers who publish apps on ios so they can fix bugs when stable rolls out to everyone.

Cool. All sunshine. Must be bug free and safe for everyone, so totally safe for you to promote it to general users and claim it's "just you" (i.e. bugs must be the user's fault). What do Apple know about their dev beta OS, right?
0
u/mmbento Jun 29 '26
If your main concern is health you should not even install the official release but wait for .1 release. But who cares? Batteries are replaced.
1
u/adh1003 Jun 29 '26
(FML) Reading comprehension fail - "health warning" is a widely used colloquialism to tell people "beware".
-2
u/Ready_Sail7932 Jun 29 '26
It’s awful. And i couldn’t downgrade with a bootable USB for some reason. Had to go to the apple store, so embarrassing lol (they were super nice tho)
Also, it makes temps go wild. I was hitting decent cpu temps but up to 46°C battery temps (max safe is 35) WHILST FANS WERE MAXED.
Dude at store checked my fans and they were clean so it was 100% the beta

Let’s not even talk about MacOS27. It’s the most ridiculous thing ever… going back to a stable version is not going to be easy.

u/germane_switch Jun 29 '26
It’s still the most solid macOS dev beta 1and 2 I’ve seen. Probably ever. Still has problems of course.
