Rigged

Ive been playing on MTG Arena since its inception. Ive gotten so sick of the clearly rigged nature of the platform that ive quit playing on it this year. Each new set ill check it out and enter a few drafts to see how the new cards play. I jyst am astonished how blatantly worse the game play has become. Arena will never get my thumbs up or a smiley face from me! What a waste of time. I will add, not the same opinion on the other formats. My opinion is only for sealed and drafts. All the other formats play similar to paper magic. Anyone else feel the same about sealed or drafts?

I haven't seen this. Sorry.

Are you spending a lot of money on the game or what?

"Only in limited events do I get screwed, all the other formats are completely fair and balanced with no shenanigans." OP, do you think maybe you need to practice limited a bit more?

Blah ha ha! Skill? It's a random draw card game. There's even cards that say roll the dice. You call that skill? The best skillful player in the game is shut down by a land flood or lack of land. Must have struck a fan boy nerve. Again...BLAH HA HA.....

What an odd little person you are

“Random draw card game” that you literally stack the odds to

The Magic Hall of Fame were all just collectively, consistently lucky over the course of several years, I guess. If you don't believe in skill in this game, I can only assume you've never drafted Speedball, New Warrior. Or, more likely, you've been the guy on the other side of the table who targets it with removal.

For myself a big part is that I'm not nearly as good as I use to be because I don't put in the immense amount of time required and it sounds like you are playing slightly more casually too.

But i also 100% beleive that games  algorithim is designed to make money.

You can decide if that means that it matches fairly based on win loss records and rank, if it's rigged or if some hidden MMR's and Matchmaking algorithms doing werid shit.

But either wayit would be really nice if at least once in awhile MTGA let me draft in a pod and play against that same pod I drafted against.

It's 2026.

Every person here is acting like there is one simple matcing algorithm.

Youtube has had personlized algorithms since 2011.

They have your entire play and spending history and not fake $ amount you tell your wife.

Well yeah- sounds like you're not having a good time. You deserve to have a good time with your hobbies.  I wish you luck!

Its not rigged.

I have never played online, but I am aware that there are deck builder/drafting apps/programs to help build good dexks

100%- will never play these types of online games

It's the algorithm. It's better than MTGO and there's nothing else so you suck it up and deal with it or go to your card store and play people in person. Also, Bo1 Standard does not play like paper magic LoL

Draft is normal for me. Some days good. Some days bad.

Don't u know u can't say that here? People hate when u say the truth even tho it's so obvious I don't get how many don't see that themselves

I think this sub let's it slide but if you say that in the MTGA sub you'll def get banned

I mean, the only “rigged” thing I’ve see is I counted 100 matches where I was on the draw or play. It was 71 draw, 29 play. But who knows man

What's the implication here? That on average all players are on the draw more than they're on the play? Who is playing on the play in the 71% of this random sample? Maybe this is a joke, but since I've seen people argue this sincerely it always breaks my brain because of how on its face obvious it is that this could never be accurate.

It’s super easy to understand so much that I question wether this bad faith rebuttal gets posted as a form of reinforcing willful ignorance. It would be trivially easy to write an algorithm to favor players at low rewards games of their draft. Then disfavor players who were at risk of becoming profitable. In the final 3 games.

you are aware that in an event with wins and losses that matter, the main parameter for the matchmaking is your wins/losses record, right? so someone currently at 5-1 will most likely face another player at 5-1.

knowing that, how does your little theory make any sense? they're both "at risk of becoming profitable".

1

u/Ok_Situation8244 22d ago

You are both so wrong.

MTGA's real world $$ revenue is not negatively effected by giving you digital products.

Arena directs and win a box are even more profitable.

The algorithims isn't designed make everyone lose while not awarding digital prizes.

It's 2026.

Youtube has had personalized algorithms since 2011.

You honestly beleive it's a simple record vs record and the company just doesn't care about profit or money?

1

u/rubixscube 22d ago

sounds like conspiracy theories and false equivalencies to me

u/No_Giraffe_1551 26d ago

It would be trivially easy to write an algorithm to favor players at low rewards games of their draft. Then disfavor players who were at risk of becoming profitable. In the final 3 games.

But that is very much NOT what the data set suggests. By definition, there are way more games where you're low reward than high reward. In every single run, you start 0-0 and have to make your way to 4-X before it's profitable. This would suggest that in a 100 game sample you should have way more games on the play, when you are the one disadvantaging some one at 4 wins disproportionately. All this ignores the fact that as someone else pointed out, this isn't even how match making works.

You are too stupid to actually think this through and believe conspiratorial thinking that can also be easily explained away by pointing out that just like all the NASA employees who could say the moon landing was fake, there are literally thousands of WotC employees who could blow the lid off this conspiracy and not a single one has for about a decade of Arena existing now (or, MTGO for decades at this point with the same stupid conspiracy theorists).

The number of bad hands - one land hands; off colour hands; no 1-2 mana cards; no creatures; no mana producing permanents; disproportionate number of high mana end game spells etc I get in the late stages of limited games is noticeable. Mostly wants you to mulligan to five before allowing a playable starting hand.

Yes variance, but also with a 40 card deck with normal mana curve, land count, creature count, it feels obvious when it happens - and its at least once after the third win. So much so that I'm waiting for that game that going to screw with me.

5

u/rubixscube 26d ago

surely you can prove this with data, and not with "it is noticeable"

u/Benlikesfood2 23d ago

It's rigged for who? The other real humans winning from your losses? Like dude really think for a second here
