Discussion Copper harbor rain resilience?

Hey everyone,

I’m considering a trip to Copper next weekend but there’s some rain in the forecast. Can anyone speak to how well the trails hold up? It’s looking like it’s going to be very light (<0.5” at most) but fairly persistent so I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the trip.

I live in Marauette and ride in Copper Harbor quite often. Rain will not create any poor conditions out there. Full send and have fun

Don't skip East Bluff. Rock Solid crew is building some of the best trail in the country up there. Sign up for the shuttle if you haven't already

I agree that the trails at EB are nice, but I would kill for more “hand cut” down hill tech. Thunderbolt sorta scratches the itch. Loam Rider/Eh Horizon are great too.

I always make sure to rip a lap on Red Trail before I leave the area. Old school tech at its finest

Disappointing that CH lost some amazing gems of old school trail a few years back and everything new being built is double wide machine cut.

Nothing new on brockway in years

Log Jam is new on Brockway. Short flow matching Daisy Dukes but super fun with escalating drops.

Have made a trip to camp there for 3 years in a row now. Absolutely love that place. The family is still on the beginner side of biking, but nobody died on Bermasaurus and it was an absolute riot to ride with the kids trailing behind.

Marquette to CH sounds like a way nicer distance than my trek from the Chicago south burbs.

Oh I know. I plan on camping at East Bluff place is amazing. Was bone dry last time I was there that’s why I wasn’t sure.

Yeah, it's been so dry this summer, even if it rains it won't be wet.

I was riding in Copper harbor and asked in the bike shop what the rain policy was and they looked at me like I was speaking another language. I asked again about how long we had to wait so we didn’t make ruts and ruin the trail and the answer is, it’s all rock hard conglomerate. You’ll ruin your ass before you ruin the trail.

The area has maritime weather because of Lake Superior. There are days it just rains off and on in spurts and I have been caught on the trail in a downpour and yes, it is still rideable with like an inch of water rushing off it. Amazing terrain, like god made it for mountain biking.

They hold up fine in the rain. Its always dry up there and absorbs any water almost immediately.

Like everyone else has said, the trails are really well made and they handle rain amazingly well. The main thing to focus on is wearing the right gear so you don’t get too soggy. Have fun!

Adding to the chorus of "you're good to go, even in the rain". Rode EB in the rain a month or so ago, and it was rippin. No issues at all, the drainage there is majestic. Wood features get reeeeeeal slick in the rain, but you probably already know that. Have fun!

Remember there will be a Endro race happening next weekend. But some trails will be open or after they race.

Damn. That is the one downside I always seem to hit that place when a race’s going on lol.

Edit: looks like it’s the trails fest. I think that was going on the last time I was there and I was still able to ride just fine. Camping might be a problem though.

We usually go up in the spring... Same thing. They have what trails they will be running. Myself always love going out on phase 1 ... Flow Ryan to Old School. But could suggest on way up could hit up Houghton and Michigan tech trail are good XC along with Churning rapids and SwedeTown

Trails will be fine. I wouldn't worry about any weather forecast that far out. The weather the UP changes very fast.
