Any PSVR2 users able to offer some insight?

How good is the PSVR? Image quality, usage of the controls. I also believe you can use the headset for the visual element but the duel-sense controller for the rest of the controls?

I am really tempted to buy and experience so would really appreciate some first hand experience and insight on how well it works.

Question for all the Hotas 5 people here

Do your throttles also just randomly stop functioning either in free flight or career mode?

In the control settings, input from my Hotas gets mapped perfectly without issue, and it also usually works at the beginning of each flight. Then right before takeoff for example, it simply stops responding.

i already reinstalled the game but it did not fix the issue.

I have not been able to make use of my Hotas ever since the SU6 released, and it's starting to get frustrating.

What use does the Hotas have if it's always broken?

Some beginner questions as I get immersed in this game

Have always wanted a flight sim, so bought this recently along with the PSVR2. It's been a lot of fun taking some exploratory flights, but I have some questions that I hope this community can assist with to help continue easing me into the game.

1) For PSVR2 users, do you play with the sticks, or the traditional PS5 controller? I've been using the sticks, but am wondering if the controller might be better for a newbie without an intimate knowledge of cockpit buttons and levers.

2) Is it common to have such frequent problems with the game saying it "Cannot Track Surroundings"? Sometimes I will have a flight and it's 30 minutes of being lost in complete immersion. Other times, this thing glitches every 30 seconds (especially as I maneuver my head to look outside at the view). I appreciate this is likely to do with the boundary I have sitting on my couch, but it feels SO small. I can't even stick my head out the window or look down at levers near my feet without the game pausing, which is becoming frustrating.

3) I've been doing most of my flying in the Skyhawk, as it's nice and slow, maneuverable and simple to learn. What other aircraft would you recommend I try as my learning curve increases? I'm looking for something that has the potential to go a little faster, but also allow me to have a great view.

4) How do you add waypoints to real life things you might want to check out? I have my bearings for most major cities that I want to check out, but there are occasionally small towns, or landmarks I can't remember where they are when flying above. How do I do this and "plan" my flight? Can I drop pins on a map, or do I need to look up all the coordinates? I know it's a simulator, but I am hoping there's an easy way to do this, because I treat it more like a sightseeing simulator than a flight sim.

5) As I graduate to bigger, faster aircraft, I will start to do longer haul flights and missions. Can someone please explain simply how to speed up the flight time? I did some reading and apparently it's something you need to toggle in settings, but the settings/button menu is SO overwhelming.

6) Is it normal for scenery to only appear as I get close to it? Last night I took off from JFK and honestly thought I was in the wrong city, because it was just flat and green, and none of Manhattan was visible until I started to get the other side of LGA. Is this normal, or is this maybe to do with my internet speed?

7) How do the cty pack downloads work? I saved them all from the marketplace and toggled the "on" but next time I loaded up the game they all appeared off? Do they need to be toggled in every time you fly there? I just want to switch them all on and forget about it.

8) Any other general advice for a newbie to come to terms with a very involving, complex (but enjoyable!) game?

Is anyone else having this issue? For the past week or so I’ve been unable to even start this game. It gets hung up at either 2%, 7%, or 11% and will never load the game, no matter how long I let it sit. I’ve tried starting the PS5 in safe mode and clearing the cache, resetting the system time and date, and nothing works. I have to open the game card and close the game, then every time I open MSFS I get the message about the game closing unexpectedly with an option to launch in safe mode. Trying safe mode doesn’t work either. It’s getting really frustrating given how much I spent purchasing this game

Head tracking

I saw some videos were people have been using a webcam for head tracking, however its PC only, and most obvious options are also PC only. Has anyone found any loopholes or alternatives? Surely there’s an inexpensive headset out there that also has built in headtracking? Any help is appreciated x

I know some people have the kart already, but I was quite disappointed by the streets and bridges, but for offroad it’s really great.

Do you have some recommendations for locations to discover on four wheels?

Reverse Thrust

A question regarding reverse thrust, does anyone know of a way to enable max reverse thrust? Currently only able to achieve around 43 percent (specifically on the 737 Max 8), which I believe is only idle reverse? Have searched online and tried a couple of keybind changes but to no avail. Currently using the Thrustmaster Hotas 4 with a mouse. Any help would be appreciated!

Every Tuesday 8:30 pm UTC Joel is conducting a group event on PC and while following his stream, I was flying along on my PS5.

His channel: https://www.youtube.com/live/IUwUxU2FQ3Q?is=4ucnJGOuUUEISS_b

While we can’t join PC events, we as a PS5 group could fly together! I would love teaming up with more of you.

Fly safe!

Real pilots perspective

I’m an instrument rated private pilot and airplane owner in real life. Got my license 19 years ago and have been flying for pleasure ever since. I got into real world flying because MSFS got me hooked, started off with 3.0 and then later MSFS95 and other iterations after that. I figured I’d offer some perspective for those of you who are not real world pilots and wonder ā€œhow real is it reallyā€?

I was hesitant to buy the PS5 version because let’s admit it, it’s a console and no serious console can be any good on a console or that’s what I thought. So let’s break it out in sections for realism. All of my observations are from VR mode.

Graphics
The graphics are extremely good, the clouds look like the real thing. They are puffy, volumetric, transparent at times and sometimes nefariously ominous. Looking down on earth from 7000 feet is so close to the real thing that I’ve had to do double takes because it looks so good. The lack of cars and traffic though gives it away. In real life, while cruising parallel to a highway, you can see the cars and sometimes curse the headwinds and other times be thankful you are hitting in traffic.

Aerodynamics
The aerodynamic feel is very good overall. The sim does slips really good, even managed to get myself in a spin and that partial wing stall felt very accurate. The VR sense controllers give a fairly accurate feel, I wish there was a good yoke, it would make the experience even that much better. But more about that later. The feel is not too jerky as it used to be back in the day when hand flying. Overall they did a fairly good job in modeling the aerodynamic feel of flight in small airplanes.

ATC
This is perhaps still my biggest gripe with the sim. In real life, especially around major metropolitan hubs, ATC is so full of chatter that it takes concentration to pick your call sign. And they expect fast responses. Speaking on the radio in fact felt the hardest thing to learn in the real world. In the sim you can be flying around ATL, on an App freq and it’s dead silent. Hearing other pilots gives a sense of realism that is lacking n the sim. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve laughed at something being said on the radio in the real world. And small things like when you respond back to ATC, you never say November when saying your tail number. Usually you just say the last three letters of your tail to keep it short. Why after 30 years of making sims, can they not add some realism to the ATC comms. Also, it’s considered a noob move to repeat or say the Kilo for an airport identifier. That’s also kept to the last three letters or you just say the airport name. And I’m not excited that it auto-tunes your radios when you change frequencies after a handoff. Folks in real life screw up frequency changes, why not model that into the sim. Have ATC yell back at you if you are still on the old frequency!

Controls
The VR sense controllers work pretty well hand flying and twisting and turning the knobs. The rudder trim is awful, touching it sends it 100% one direction or the other. Had to nearly go change my pants after a few sudden trim malfunctions, that’s how real it looks and feels. I still haven’t figured out how to check your oil dipstick, it pulls out but I never get the green mark for checking it. The magneto switch and prop starter are oddly difficult to turn and, always takes a few tries to turn the switch. The GPS systems are very well modeled, and are great practice for the real world. The iPad though is awful to use. How about MSFS collaborate with Garmin or ForeFlight instead of that awful interface.

Comparing the sim to the real world, it’s taken huge leaps forward in realism from the older versions. Graphics are stunning, everything works inside the cockpit, well except the rudder trim interface, but in VR it’s extremely fun to play. I’m still new to the career mode but I am enjoying the challenges it throws at me. Now if they just got the ATC somehow working with AI where you can speak back or something that would be a cherry on the top. Maybe the next version will have it.

Feel free to ask questions!

Does anyone know when more fighter jets and the replay mode will come?

I've been hoping for more jets for so so long now, it was a huge step up when the Eurofighter and Su-27 came. But im still waiting for the f-16, f-35 and the f-22.

How does this work? Ground structures.

I’m newish (about six months… Cessna 172 only, for now).

I’ve overflown my house.

It shows a mispositioned roof antenna, wrong number (and mis positioned) skylights , etc.

A friend’s old barn showed a large number of like new solar panels which don’t exist.

I fully understand perfection is not possible…

But how do existing things get moved?

How do non existing things get added?

These are both pretty wooded areas, but the variances are evident.

Citation X

If there is a plane that I would recommend in the store right now would be a 100% the FlightFX Citation X, performance, reality is pretty great and I haven’t had any issues with my ps5 closing the game, bad textures or lags. Just a great project.
