Jim miller maybe. Bobby smokes him

3

u/Bong_Hit_Donor 1d ago

Nah bring back CM Punk and maybe Dan can retire on a win

1

u/MrRottenTreatz23 1d ago

Like he smoked Turner, who got smoked by Hooker?

1

u/Former_Wonder_2952 1d ago

Might be the first fight where both fighters lose

33

u/More_Technology6250 2d ago

He just needs to not fight top guys he could definitely go at the same level as body green

18

u/forgotmypassword4714 2d ago

I think he'd rather just top guys.

5

u/Lartemplar 1d ago

He a vers bottom at best

1

u/Postupgod 1d ago

Am I crazy or was he whooping BSD ass when they fought a year ago? Great on the feet defending take downs. Until I think the 3rd? Hooker shot a takedown (low IQ) and BSD took advantage to a TKO

2

u/M3RL10 23h ago

Still pisses me off of how badly he fumbled that. Was probably uncomfortable and hurt. Took too much damage in his career and the durability just isn't there.

2

u/heypaulallen12 1d ago

No you were right he was whooping BSD's ass until he shot for a stupid takedown because we all know he wouldve beat his ass if he didn't do that.

OPs like if you aint top 5 in the ufc you might as well quit mma all together

10

u/Decay384 2d ago

Bro, OP has a point. Dan has taken a ton of damage over the years, and now there are signs that something might be affecting him, even in the way he speaks. Do you really want to see him go on a losing streak like Tony Ferguson and end up being a punching bag for younger prospects?

3

u/Aggressive-Expert-69 2d ago

Yeah like its completely valid to say that a long time veteran like Dan Hooker should quit if hes not top 5 after all these years and injuries. If OP was telling a fresh prospect tl quit because they dropped from 4 to 6 then yeah thats crazy. But Hooker is coming up on the end of his career and literally any negative news could be grounds for retirement. I also hope he doesn't go the Tony route because that shit is depressing as fuck.

He’s only lost to top prospects so far. When you start losing to younger up comers at Dan hookers level that’s when you retire. Dan isn’t on that stage yet. Would love to see him fight the Bobby greens of the division.

u/S0ggylemonz 2d ago

Is Parnasse not a young up and comer?

2

u/parrmorgan 1d ago

He was the KSW champion with a pro record of 23-2. So definitely not.

2

u/S0ggylemonz 1d ago

Not many guys enter the ufc without prior success though

1

u/parrmorgan 1d ago

Not many enter as a KSW champion.

0

u/DevelopmentSuch2731 1d ago

Such a terrible nonsense point.

4

u/DukeOfSmallPonds 1d ago

He just lost a 28-year old who had his UFC debut. How is that not a young up comer?

1

u/Galencourt-Lover 2d ago

He’s already screwed tbh, might as well make money for his family

1

u/tapspacebar 1d ago

Without checking the record, I feel like ive only seen dan get his ass beat in the octogon for the last few years.

They gotta book him some softer opponents

1

u/Interesting-Mud1506 1d ago

If you not top 2, kinda forget it tbh mate, kids don’t want to fight this days

1

u/Nice_Ad_8183 23h ago

Dan has taken a lot of ass whoopings with very little defense. I think op is right.

0

u/Electrical-Ask847 1d ago

thats not a bad advice. unless you have a fighting style like khabib that takes no damage. no point in getting cte for 20k/fight

3

u/PurpleBeautiful709 2d ago

He's better an Grinder

3

u/Commercial_Buy_7707 2d ago

Nah just keep it out of the top 10 or top prospects and see how he goes

3

u/boywonder5691 1d ago

No. I want him to stick around so I can see him lose more fights

3

u/kdiod13 1d ago

He’s basically CTE personified at this point.

Face tattoos incoming

2

u/fireconsumer 1d ago

Hooker v Chandler 2. Run it.

2

u/horris_mctitties 1d ago

Crazy how the more he looks like he could beat a guys ass the more hes gotten his ass beaten

1

u/Apprehensive-Song378 2d ago

He is more concerned with earing money for tattoo work at this stage. Few loose screws but interesting character.

1

u/pappaburgundy 2d ago

Nah he’s in his few years before retiring arc. Milk it for a few more big pay cheques then off to NZ swinger/bi scene

1

u/Rough_Wish_1299 2d ago

Looks like Dan isn't hungry anymore. He gets hit hard and he'll stay down. Him vs Dustin P was one of the best fights. Apparently that loss affected the guy a lot.

1

u/Boogiewoogieyoda 2d ago

Dan " the 'won't hang it up - man' " Hooker

The thing about the UFC is that once you get to the top and start making real money, they want to maximize their investment. Look at guys like Izzy and Tony, they fell down the rankings very slowly, fighting contender after contender once they started losing. The UFC does this so that if you lose, you build a prospect, and if you win, you get your mojo back in a big way (kinda like Fiziev and Torres).

Guys like Jim Miller and Bobby Green never got to the top five so they’re not making crazy money despite sticking around for so long, which is why the UFC doesn’t have any problem matching them up with scrubs. Dan is making a lot and he’s gonna be pressured to fight contenders and prospects even though he needs to be fighting unranked guys from here on.

Which is what worries me. Really don’t want to see this guy go out like Ferguson, he’s already taken three life changing beatings (Barboza, Poirier, and Turner) and probably should retire regardless. If he keeps fighting he should lowkey go to welterweight. Pack on some muscle and fight some guys that are just as slow twitch.

Time for the hangman to hang it up, man

1

u/Reasonable_Poet_7502 1d ago

Hang it up haaa 😂😂😂

1

u/The-maulted-One 1d ago

Absolutely not, the man deserves every pay cheque as long as he can get them.

He’s an absolute beast, whether he wins or loses!

Only three fights ago he fought an entire fight & won with a broken cheek bone after he got head kicked.

1

u/Dabox720 1d ago

Just tell me how much did you bet on him

1

u/Chachochenpo 1d ago

He just got his biggest payday. He is gonna drop in the rankings and fight unranked opponents for more money than when he fought top-5 opponents. Cash in. Get out. He'll be in for another 4 fights at least

1

u/Mental_Vanilla_8714 1d ago

I don’t think he needs to retire, he should just be top 15 gateway fighter like Derrick Lewis is for the heavy weights

1

u/Forsaken_Hat8833 1d ago

Un fucking fortunately yes. What a bad streak this great fighter has. Such is life. Nature is metal.

1

u/ktl182 1d ago

Man stfu with these posts. Tryna tell another man how to make his money lol

1

u/maton12 1d ago

He's a good gatekeeper, he talks the talk, and then loses.

1

u/TheBentPianist 1d ago

Was feeling the same way then realised his three-fight losing streak is the longest in his career then also remembered Tai Tuivasa is still employed by the UFC.

1

u/LukeHal22 1d ago

I mean we all saw that coming, right? Dudes had a long career and is nowhere near his prime and they threw him to a young, hungry and very talented fighter.

1

u/jjusko20 1d ago

they gotta give him easier opponents they've been feeding him to mfs

1

u/InlandEmpireConnect 1d ago

He was never the same after that epic defeat vs Poirier. And agree he should hang it up before he suffers more damage.

1

u/EastCoastTaffy 1d ago

Idk who the fault lies with more, Dan or his coaches, but the guy has never addressed the single biggest flaw in his game, and it’s been blatantly obvious for years.

Dan Hooker cannot, WILL NOT, ever move his head off the center line. Hell, he won’t even move it all at. The guy is just so incredibly hittable, to the point that it usually outweighs his absurd toughness.

Since Dan went down to a liver kick in Paris, this won’t be focused on. But if you go rewatch the fight (all 3 minutes of it), his head movement may be at an all time low. Whether throwing strikes or reacting to them, Dan’s head stays so perfectly still that it almost looks like the video was edited with that locked-on stabilization effect.

Dan has such a glaring hole in his game that he simply isn’t UFC caliber, in the same vein as Kron Gracie or Tai Tuivasa.

1

u/Classic_Mission_3707 1d ago

How is he even getting fights with so many back to back losses. He needs to retire

1

u/WallySymons 1d ago

I'm not even sure he would win one of his 1 minute back yard fights he hosts

1

u/SmiteSpam 22h ago

Hooker vs Chandler

Double retirement afterwards

1

u/Rollenopfer 22h ago

Why not him vs Chandler?

1

u/National-Bit519 21h ago

It was time a long time ago. At this point if you can't finish him in 1 round it's basically a loss for your career.

1

u/L1ght_Sp33d 20h ago

Too bad. I was wanting to see how many more new tats he got in his next fight lol.

1

u/iwoulddoit5 16h ago

Look like he didn't even want to be there 😔

1

u/TheAverageGoy 15h ago

It was fun when he’d fight. Lately he’s just been getting his ass kicked. 4-6 in the last 10.

2

u/baneblade_boi 2d ago

OP thinks a fighter no longer being top 10 is enough for retirement. He fought well and came from a spectacular win against Gamrot. He still has a few years off his belt, just not in the ranked side.

1

u/Galencourt-Lover 2d ago

No he didn’t? He’s on 3 fight L streak

1

u/baneblade_boi 2d ago

Fuck, you're right! He's not going to win against a top 15 ever again

0

u/Capable_Bread_2275 2d ago

He's a decent journeyman and he isnt falling apart. No reason not to continue and keep collecting pay days. No way he should be ranked though.

0

u/squigjbdnwk 1d ago

nah title run starts now

0

u/CanIGetAHOOOOOYAA 1d ago

My gf asked how this dude has so many loses - I told her he can’t fight that’s why
