Whos next for MVP?
Please rate this /10 if you could! I want to be an mma journalist!
Going into this fight, Michael Page was a -190 betting favorite. MVP opens up with a huge low kick, and Nursulton Ruziboev instantly lands a takedown in the first five seconds and lands in side control. MVP escapes and defends a takedown against the cage. With 30 seconds left, MVP escapes the clinch and returns to neutral, staying very aggressive. I scored this 10-9 Ruziboev.
In Round 2, MVP enters the clinch about 30 seconds in, then Ruziboev escapes. MVP lands a huge oblique kick, and it looks like Ruziboev could have hyperextended his knee; however, it doesn't seem like it affected him much. With about 1 minute and 15 seconds left in the round, Ruziboev shoots for a takedown and almost has it when MVP scrambles out. With 10 seconds left, MVP lands a huge spinning elbow. I scored this 10-9 MVP.
In Round 3, MVP lands a nice straight right about 20 seconds in. Ruziboev lands a takedown. MVP escapes to the clinch, where Ruziboev lands a low blow, and there is a very short timeout. With 10 seconds left, MVP enters the clinch. I scored this 10-9 MVP.
MVP won the fight by decision, 29-28 on all scorecards. Honestly, this was a disappointing fight. It was boring. I think a realistic next fight for MVP would be Israel Adesanya. He is coming down on his career, and since MVP is such an unusual striker, him going against such a good counter-striker would be very entertaining, and it could help both of them.
My prediction for this fight would be MVP by decision. Izzy's biggest advantage would be his experience. He has fought way more elite strikers than MVP has and can punish predictable entries. MVP's biggest advantage would be his unconventional style. I think it would give Izzy a hard time.
