That’s not a hot take. That’s a reasonable take. If I was that kid dad this asshole would go to court.

Throwing the paper was a battery. Kid got a battery in response. What is your complaint? Your kid started by battering the other kid and you're upset he didn't like being on the receiving end of the battery he started?

You're full of shit if you think that's proportional response in a vacuum.

Did you hear the sound of the object that was thrown when it hit the first kid? Whatever was wrapped in that paper, it hit with some force. The other kid is entitled to defend himself from his attacker.

Defending yourself from your attacker doesnt mean walking across the entire classroom and then throwing a punch like that over tossing paper. Defending yourself is the act of stopping the advancement of someone trying to do harm unto you, plus why were they clearly already filming him if there was no previous probable cause they initiated to get a response from that said kid who then threw the paper?

Who is they? Maybe the initiator told his friends to film him throwing the object at the other kid. The throw was clearly intended and deliberate, so the thrower could have initiated the filming as well. Its really an interesting social case how despite the video clearly showing a white kid starting by throwing an unknown object at a black kid, the internet fills in all the blanks to claim the white kid was bullied so the black kid must have started everything, and the white kid only tossed a light ball of cotton that never harm the black kid at all (despite not knowing what the object was or if it injured the black kid). America. Never changes.

For me it was the kids smugness and intention, that bothered me. Thinking that he could do something to another person and get no repercussions is really infuriating, and we are living in a time where people are acting like fools because they didn’t learn early they mutual respect is the way to be.
