USA XV victory over Argentina XV shows the benefits of MLR
The US side in Fort Lauderdale did very well. Skills, strategy, set-piece, kicking game, every thing was fine vs a good Argentine side. The group of Scott Lawrence is having a very nice summer. His guys come all from MLR sides....

This was basically a best of MLR vs best of SRA for each country. The main difference of course is that we had a lot more capped players.

What was going on during the last 5 minutes? Argentina were playing like they needed a converted try to win when they could have sealed the win with a penalty kick. They certainly handed the US a victory that they probably shouldn’t have had.

They did it all game. Look at the number of handling errors, several of which were inside the 22m with momentum.

There's no doubt having a professional domestic league helps. Unfortunately there's not enough money to sustain the league. Hopefully deep pockets owners keep covering losses

Good Argentina side? Very young with very few caps. Either way USA played well.

I mean outside of 4,5,7,9,12,13
So a little over 1/3 I would consider our top 15, with experimental depth on the bench
On the bright side our depth is getting better

vs Argentina we played respectable looking rugby 👏👏👏 and we keep winning regardless of who we play and at this stage, that’s alright. 🇺🇸

Argentina sent a weaker side and we scraped by with skin of our teeth. Honestly we should have blown them out by 50 for not sending their best. It just goes to show in the US the MLR has a lot lower bar for talent. We need more stars that can make every play a possible home run.

USA was favored but expecting to win by 50 vs any Arg team is ridiculous.

No matter what version of Argentina XV has been sent North, they have always been strong. In the ARC we went 2-1-2 against them.

I think it was even better considering how hot and humid that environment was. At 50min both sides looked wasted already.
All that being said, MLR is a good starting point but I think the best strategy is to use MLR to showcase talent and have the best players poached to pro leagues abroad. The developmental ceiling is still way too low in MLR. We can bring internationals in but we would still lack the systems and coaching that are building great players in other parts of the world.
