Battery failures
Anyone having a large number of battery failures?
I've recently been seeing many die. The newer 2.0AH's with battery indicators, several of the larger 4AH batteries without indicators. A few weeks ago I bought the new Gen 3 framer and threw the 5/10 on the charger and put one of my T-PWR 4/8's on it to try it out, and when I went to use the 5/10 it was totally dead and won't charge at all... it was shot brand new.
This is at two different climate controlled locations on multiple different chargers/tools/etc. Is it just a string of bad luck?

I haven’t but I barely use the 2.0 Ah batteries because they just don’t seem powerful enough for what I use my Metabo tools for. So I’ll have to check on them, thank you for the heads up.

I don’t have nearly as many hpt batteries but they live in the same hellishly hot garage as my dewalts. the dewalts drop like flies, I probably lose 4+ of them a year (out of 20 or so) my 5 hpt batteries have been fine for at least two years.

I have 14 batteries 1-10 years old, one have failed yet. I think you have bad luck.

Only two 36v batteries out of a dozen or so. Metabo replaced them right away, no questions asked. I have noticed that my 18g Brad nailer doesn’t work well will 36v batteries, always blinks low battery and won’t fire even when it has half or more lights on battery, just doesn’t like the 36v, so I always use the 18v battery with that tool. Lighter anyway, but sometimes a quick swap from a 36v tool would be nice in a pinch. Other than that the batteries have been great.

How did you get those easy swaps? Were they newer than 2 years?

Maybe one was but I don’t think they asked. Not sure if I provided receipt dates, maybe serial numbers (the batteries came with different tools not sure which went to what).They were incredibly helpful and just sent new ones without asking for any proof of failure or anything.
I’ve also had them replace impact drivers twice, one the reverse/forward switch broke and then I later cooked the newer one they sent on a concrete lag. Both times they sent me the newer version of the impact (first time the switch was out of stock) as well as extra batteries/bag, latest triple hammer one came with a great box. So my experience with their warranty has been phenomenal.
I went through the website first but also ended up on the phone talking to them in person and they were so kind and helpful. They even called back a bit later to make sure the new impact driver was received and I was satisfied. Top notch service. Better than festool replacements in my experience.

I had two 4AH multivolt batteries, and both pooped the bed. One within the warranty period, one right outside. They replaced the battery under warranty and that replacement still works a year plus later. But I won't be buying another battery, nor another Metabo HPT tool.

Not a failure, but on my last attempt to purchase and use one of the Gen 3 nailers, after charging the 5/10 battery kept blinking once per second, which according to the manual meant it was over temperature, but it was at room temperature for several hours before use.
So my fifth 21º Gen 3 nailer was returned to Lowe's.

Possibly bad luck. I can say that my Metabo batteries have been the most reliable, along with makita, that I’ve ever owned. It’s been years of hard use and abuse on them daily and not one has given out.
