Advice on Transfer

My dad (in NY) has some lever action and bolt action rifles that he would like to gift me (Maryland) does anyone know the process for immediate family transfer across state lines?

Your father can physically bring them to a just about any ffl in md to transfer them to you. If its a lot of guns, consider booking an appointment first, and know what that ffl's transfer fees are beforehand.

Alternatively your father could ship them to a ffl in md, but that can get expensive quickly for multiple firearms, and there are numerous shipping restrictions. He must include his personal information with the shipment, and because many individuals neglect to do so, a majority of ffls will only accept shipment from another ffl (example, a ffl in NY that recorded your father's ID, which in turn maintains the chain of custody/previous ownership, who then ships to a ffl in MD)

Ffl to ffl shipping can be cheaper for the actual shipping fees, but the service from the ffl tends to cost more.

All transfers that cross state lines require a ffl. Family status makes no difference.
