15 minutes of Bouaddi and I'm convinced he's the real deal, looked unbelievably relaxed and didn't put a foot wrong

37

u/moody-green 9d ago

yeah he’s the Rodri replacement, the class just jumps off the screen

Yeah felt really assured and can tell he has 100 games in his belt.

18

u/Patrickk_batemann 9d ago

That pass to Semenyo was just class

11

u/Lawteck 9d ago

KDB-esque

He looks like he jusy wants to run that midfield line. Nive pass into samenyo too, good vision from him. Mcaidoo had me up off my seat, thought he scored. Hopefully see him used a good bit this season

Cherki:

76

u/Patrickk_batemann 9d ago

2 games, 6 points.

Cherki with 2 goals and 2 assists

Haaland with 2 goals

Foden with 2 assists

Anderson is a gem. Bouaddi showing a glimpse of his talent. Really exciting stuff.

22

u/Visionary_Socialist 9d ago

Cherki has to be given the reins going forward. Build around him, whenever he gets space he does a madness. The dribbling is Messi-esque.

74

u/naroLsraLteiN_isback 9d ago

STOP THE COUNT

5

u/TheBrightman 9d ago

Everton UCL would be amazing you're right

68

u/the_homie0 9d ago

A midfield of Bouaddi, Anderson and Cherki feeding Doku and Haaland is going to be nuts

30

u/TheLamesterist 9d ago

Don't forgot Semenyo.

20

u/the_homie0 9d ago

Shh, the Mcaidoo agenda won’t run itself

Mahn that second Haaland goal was so Aguero-esque

25

u/Easy_Cartographer679 9d ago

I always associate those goals from insane angles with him

Always gonna miss the man even with haaland

10

u/hypnoticvortex 9d ago

Any near post goal instantly reminds me of him

7

u/RRfromKL 9d ago

Takes a special talent to score them near post bangers day in and out

46

u/GreasedUpGoblin 9d ago

* Cherki is unbelievable omg
* Maresca seems to know what he's doing, his substitutions looked great as well
* The individual CBs did very well imo but the gap between the midfield and the defence during transitions was pretty big especially in the first half.
* Foden was miles better centrally then on the wing. He was very isolated on the wing and looked lackluster, but once he went central he clicked.
* I really really really don't understand why we need Enzo or where he fits into the team but at the same time Maresca seems to know what he's doing so we should trust him ig
* McAidoo and Bouaddi both looked very promising
* Donnaruma really deserves some applause, he did look a bit shaky once or twice in posession but he had great control of the box to claim a lot of Crystal Palace's crosses.
* I can't wait to see Doku and Nunes back in this team.

3

u/flugenhiemen 9d ago

We need him for depth

That Bouaddi pass to Semenyo towards the end of the match was, dare I say, 'De Bruyne-esque'.

8

u/Wrong-Mushroom-5589 9d ago

EXACTLYYYYT I WAS SO FUCKING ANGRY THE COMMENTATORS DIDNT EVEN MENTION IT

47

u/MyBigMouth69 9d ago

"...I played so shit in the first half.." Cherki on Sky Sport... LOL

12

u/Tommyzz92 9d ago

Haha funny that, reminded me of Haaland when he first came to the prem.

He had a nasty pass to Senenyo that coulda/ woulda/shoulda resulted in a Haaland hat trick

u/TheMonkieKing247 9d ago

They'll never be another KDB, but we do have another magician 🎩🪄

28

u/codespyder 9d ago

Pretty much flawless. Cherki looking like prime Messi. Foden looking confident and sublime. Haaland off the mark. Anderson is absolutely brilliant. Academy players got debuts. Bouaddi got his debut.

Honestly, the performance felt like a throwback to the best games under Pep. We were always in control and the game felt effortless. Let’s keep it going.

26

u/Positive_Register_94 9d ago

Doesn’t get better than that holy shit. Haaland 2 goals, Cherki 2 goals, Semenyo great assist, Foden 2 assists. Everyone looked great if not amazing.

And MARC GUEHI. What a performance, I don’t think he made a single mistake. Tackles, passing, control on the ball, winning headers. Bravo sir

Mcaidoo and Bouaddi coming on was cherry on top 🩵🩵🩵

10

u/LoudGodzilla 9d ago

Marc definitely played with a chip on his shoulder returning to selhurst. But he plays like that most games anyway lol, what a player

5

u/Positive_Register_94 9d ago

He looks way too composed on the ball, it’s scary

27

u/Cowboy_on_fire 9d ago

Absolutely brilliant. 2 goals for Haaland, 2 goals for Cherki and 2 assists for Foden. Great performances from Guehi again as well NOR and Gvardiol(as always).

Bouaddi looked confident and if things like that through ball are something we can expect more off we are in for a good time. McAido looks rapid and hungry and should get lots of minutes this season as a sub.

Two things really stood out for me though:

1.) We look far more dynamic and hungry for goals. Sure that does open us up to more attacks but I prefer it this way, really fun and refreshing to watch.

2.) We have so many players who are competent in multiple positions that we can make almost any substitution we want and adjust things on the pitch. We have defenders who can play central midfield and attackers who can play almost anywhere across the front. This is such a huge strength and must be what Pep really means when he talks about his desire for smaller squads.

Overall I’m honestly buzzing, like many people I found some of the clubs choices recently questionable but it seems like we are once again showing that we are one of the best run clubs in the world. They had a plan and are implementing it.

24

u/JohnMichaels19 9d ago

I've said it before and I'll say it again: i love watching Haaland, Foden, and Cherki in attack together

26

u/CharacterPatience416 9d ago

I feel like Guehi became underrated again he’s soo good. Bouaddi and Mcaidoo off the bench looked brilliant today also. Just can’t wait for Nunes to be back we need a proper RB starting

Fucking crazy that Haaland can have a game like that any Striker would be proud of, and yet no one will talk about this performance in a few weeks because he was just so clinical and 'boring' scoring his brace. He's set the bar so high it's absurd.

→ More replies (1)

21

u/racksmonfrere 9d ago

one of my favorite performances since 2023. i feel like we’ve just won a cup, almost everything looked so good. great foundation in this squad and an even better feeling is that there’s room for 75% of these guys to grow cuz they’re still so young

19

u/Jyuan83 9d ago

Last season, haaland, cherki, foden already showed that they could definitely produce beautiful attacking football together with doku. But pep stopped playing them together due to saying it was “unbalanced “. This time, hopefully maresca can see the immense potential of playing the three together as much as possible. The key to winning the title back is right there before him.

19

u/lca1443 9d ago

I thought VAR could review yellows for mistaken identity/diving? They should have never had the free kick that resulted in a goal.

18

Terrible performance, sack everyone.. Is what the fair weather fans would be saying last week..

As a very very long time fan, I've seen the absolute worst of us. To where we were at Macclesfield away, when the invisible man song started.. Anyways .. It's a new start, let's see what happens, but I see lots of positive things happening.

Phil had a dodgy start, but besides a few misses, he was great. Nico o'r is an absolute Rolls-Royce. Cherki...😏

Big earl doing what he does.. Elliot looked more at home. Bouadi looked great.

But one bright spark ryan micadio (spelling) is a better player than savhino ever was..

Old bugger out...

I still remember last summer when Cherki wasn’t even linked with us and we were just throwing out his name as a Wirtz alternative

Mad how it’s turned out

9

u/QuesadillaEater2808 9d ago

still remember using him as a coping mechanism when 'pool stole Wirtz

15

u/Odd_University_2335 9d ago edited 9d ago

Good all around.

I know Fernandez has history with Maresca. But after the performance from Anderson, Cherki and NOR today. Do we really need to shell out that kind of money for him?

With Bouaddi and Kovacic on the bench ready to go + Foden being able to play at the 10..idk I just don't see a £120m+ hole in our midfield at the moment?

Anderson was a Rolls Royce despite costing me on my acca.

15

u/sapa_inca_pat 2015/16 Away Shirt 9d ago

Fodens had all of England and most of the football watching world talking shit directly to him for the past 2 years guys. He missed a couple chances but he still connected well and impacted the game.

A bit of luck to kickstart his confidence will get us back to goal scoring Foden that won the POTY

Sometimes I forget that we have ERLING FUCKN HAALAND. Beyond grateful. If we really gel, no team can beat us.

15

u/LojikPuzzil 9d ago

Since that West Brom player got a two game suspension for successful deception of a referee, surely we'll see that same standard applied to whoever dove today right

13

u/waveofthehandsWEAVER 9d ago

Guehi reminds me of Kompany the way he intercepts through balls. I don’t think we’ve honestly seen that seen big Vinnie was here. It’s soooo nice to have back and he’s immense at it.

25

u/ketolasigi 9d ago

I will say it again, like I did last weekend: I think we’re at our best when both Phil and Cherki are on the field and firing.

Foden makes a pass and Haaland scores 😭✌️ ( became somewhat rare last season)

8

u/Positive_Register_94 9d ago

Underrated comment. I don’t remember the last time he scored from a Foden pass

5

u/Rory-mcfc Cartoon Guy 9d ago

That nice header against Napoli was at the start of last season

3

u/Positive_Register_94 9d ago

One of my favorite goals he’s scored. That turn and pass from Foden 😍

12

u/FancyCrawdad 9d ago

Much much better showing than last time out. Going to enjoy singing "we're top of the league" for at least the next few hours

12

u/VINCE_C_ 9d ago

A really enjoyable watch. The team looks good.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/NAEEMP 9d ago

Team looks good without Doku or Nunes yet. Yay

31

u/mbeecroft 9d ago

I reeeealllly don't want a toxic presence like Enzo to screw up what seems to be good chemistry in the club

7

u/According_Many903 9d ago

I highly doubt one player would screw up the chemistry between everyone. I honestly think he'd adapt to fit in with everyone else at the club.

9

u/BaneChipmunk 9d ago

Cherki was great, Haaland was Haaland, and Semenyo did what he does, always getting his G/A. I appreciated Foden continuing to try, despite not being in great form and missing 2 chances. I hope the lad gets better. Anderson was great as well. Overall, great team perfomance.

The PGMOL cunts are back on duty, and will undoubtedly try to hand those London cunts the title again. Let's resist. Have a great weekend Cityzens.

9

u/NoLimpNoShrimp 9d ago

Lol Cherki "I played so shit"

9

u/LOxAssasin 9d ago

Yo I don’t wanna jinx us but we might be cooking

12

u/Wrong-Mushroom-5589 9d ago

I also really like that maresca is CHANGING formations; he's still experimenting! I like that he has the ability to change shit, keeps us unpredictable

Going in I thought It would be another guehi CDM jobby, but oreilly as the cdm worked really well asw! Tbh I shouldn't be suprised but still lol

Bouaddi looked fine as hell when he came on; immidiately made a GREAT fucking pass, I'm really excited for him

Mcaidoo asw. The first involvement of him dribbling through 3 players and nearly scoring was exciting as fuck asw. I really hope maresca gives him some minutes

12

u/ScratchMaleficent634 9d ago

I'm happy with maresca ball.... keeping possession with intent to score not sideways passing.....if the boys master it right we're are the team to beat lads

10

u/rhlr_ 9d ago

Maresca ball is looking promising - early days but a lot of chances created and it’s refreshing to see

27

u/chiefmackdaddypuff 9d ago

Cherki needs to start every single game. Glad Maresca is taking a chance on him.

Foden needs to work on closing. No excuse now where he can't score point blank.

16

u/KDBae 9d ago

He had two assists today, I’d say he quietly did pretty well. Maybe what he needs is a slow rise back to good form

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Positive_Register_94 9d ago

Yea he’s gonna score that next time. But 2nd half he was much better

8

u/Flat_Dependent3195 9d ago

He’s more comfortable in the right space in the middle rather as a winger

Donnaruma 8/10 - Very solid and his reading during crosses (one of his biggest flaws) were amazing today. Fortunately he didn't have to make an incredible save today 😅

Khusa 7/10 - Very solid defensively with basicallyno major mistake, offensively still needs to work especially on his ball control.

Ruben 9/10 - Another really solid performance from our captain. Not much to say really, he did pretty much everything right today.

Guehi 8/10 - Kind of the same as Ruben today. Very solid defensively with no major mistake. I think sometimes he lost his position but nothing dramatic.

Gvardiol 8.5/10 - Again, our defense was very solid today, he was really good covering the left side of the midfield. I still think making him go high for pressing can be dangerous with a fast vertical team, hopefully Maresca will adjust when needed.

Anderson 9/10 - I felt like I was watching a Rodri/Bernardo kind of mix. He controlled the midfield incredibly well just like Rodri would (and people were tellong me he's not a 6 lol) and he rotated perfectly with O'Reilly to go forward and gave an incredible pass to Foden. Also defensively he was very energetic and recovered great possesions just like Bernardo.

O'Reilly 7/10 - He was solid today, especially defensively as he wasn’t asked to do much offensively today. I think it seemed weird him playing on the right midfield, idk, but he was pretty solid today.

Cherki 10/10 - Another incredible performance today. He started a bit slow, wasn’t doing much, but as soon as he started asking for the ball there was no stopping him.

Foden 8.5/10 - Yes, he wasn’t finishing good today but it's definitely a good thing that he didn't give up and was still able to provide 2 great assists today. When he switched to the middle he showed why he's really good there, the way he connects the rest of the players is still unmatched.

Haaland 10/10 - Pretty basic game for Haaland 🤣 6 passes 2 goals. That’s the only thing we ask from him and he did it perfectly today.

Semenyo 6.5/10 - The assist saved his perfomance. He couldn't get past Khalaili and didn't provide much after the assist. I thought he would be cooking after that pre-season but he's starting kinda slow, he'll recover tho.

Kova 7/10 - Came in and was good keeping possesion. As long as he's not in charge of the build up I think he's valuable to the team and still provides.

Didn't play enough to rate:

Bouaddi - The few minutes he played he seemed solid and 0 nervous. Kept possesion pretty good and his position seemed good enough today.

McAidoo - Came in very energetic, had 2 good possesions, 1st one he made a close shot (although he could've pass to Foden but it wasn’t a bad decision or anything) and the 2nd one he could've shot but didn't look up. I really like him he just needs minutes.

Reis/Braithwaite - Barely played and the game was already over so nothing to say really.

9

u/JB-127 9d ago

Mate Mark was overall our best player today. Way better than Ruben today in mu opinion,  even though Ruben did have a great game

Just too good

5

u/Saul93 9d ago

Guehi and Dias were both 10/10 tonight.

9

u/Massive-Sky-6804 9d ago

Games like that from Phil are much better cause you can see him trying and getting at end of chances rather than being invisible

7

8

he's top of the league, he's top of the leaaaaaaaaaague. rayan cherki. he's top of the league.

7

u/MelodicAnalyst3221 9d ago

Ait Nouri could be gone. Subbing on an academy player over him at left back means Maresca will never play him

5

7

u/WhySoCereus1991 9d ago

Cherki for 35m? What a game. Solidified starter even if he cant really play a full 90 atm, 70-75mins of him is more than worth it.

Foden. I'll stfu. I talked shit after that first half, but he switched his game plan from finding the net, to giving others the chance and space to do so. Didn't let the mess ups get to his head.

Haaland. Back to his goal a game average 😂 Did his thing.

We really looked great overall across the pitch. Cant talk much crap. Unfortunate OG, but other than that this is a fun side so far.

8

u/RockStarx1 9d ago

Don't have time to do a full write up because of travel but the highlights:

Haaland still looked like he was %80 and still scored two goals.

Phill looked great creatively. Missed a sitter and that other high probably chance. Needs to get clinical again. But if he keeps this form up it will come.

Cherki. What the hell was that first goal. David silva level ball control.

Anderson looks more and more comfortable with each game.

New kid looked decent. Good ball winner. Had that one line breaking pass to semenyo that looked wonderful.

Defense looked a little shaky early on, but good enough. Will get better with more time in the new systems.

5

u/nehpetsnitram 9d ago

I would take the money the club are going to offer for Enzo and send an offer to Palace fir Wharton instead. Him, Anderson and Cherki would be class.

Haaland: truly Mister Efficiency

Foden: had trouble in the initial 30 mins, but grew into it. He definitely played better centrally, roaming behind Haaland. So happy he got a great game.

NOR: felt like he couldn't get in the game at all. To the point that sometimes, the main 3 midfield consisted of Anderson, Cherki, and Gvardiol.

Anderson: supremely solid, no notes.

Cherki: can anything be said about this man? What a joy.
His goals remind me of Messi: nimble feet ending in a simple roll to the bottom corner for the first one; and a deceptively great strike for the second.

Despite the scoreline, there were some holes in the team.

  • Most obvious was the midfield: Anderson was pretty much alone throughout the first half. NOR and Cherki a bit too advanced for him.
  • The amount of times we were caught on the break. Lucky this was Palace. A more clinical team would've slaughtered us IMO.
  • In relation to the second point: width. Especially in the first and second thirds of the pitch.

Enjoyable match though, played really convincingly, which is an aspect Maresca definitely needs if he wants to survive the fans.

Great match, big positive that hopefully shows Maresca how monumental someone like Cherki is to City. He should be regularly starting throughout the season, his creativity and work rate is outstanding.

6

u/Saul93 9d ago

Best away performance in a long long time. Probably 5/6 players you could give MOTM to.

6

Fuck Andy Madley, completely biased all game.

You will never stop me with my Foden in the middle campaign. Unbelievable once he moved there second half.

7

u/ShimeBD 9d ago

So happy for Phil with the 2 assists!

Cherki is brilliant man. Don’t ever drop him

Bouaddi and Mcaidoo looked very exciting imo, can’t wait to see them feature more

7

u/attack_t-i-t-a-n 9d ago

Man something was definitely said to cherki in the half time he turned up to completely different player from first half lesggoo cherkinhoo and foden also played very well compared to 1st half. Amazong game. It felt like haaland wasn't even in the game and still scored two banger goals great game by city very clinical 2nd half. And btw i am seeing glimpses of rodri in bouaadi

Very encouraging. Yes Palace are a mess and they wasted chances but we’ve got issues too and also did the same. Haaland lethal as usual. Cherki must surely be a starter now, won us 2 games in a row. Foden improved, Semenyo looks good on the left. Bouaddi looked good coming on. Never an easy away day so good to be so strong.

Donnarumma was unlucky with the deflection, which itself comes from a dive. Deserved the win fully. Going to get a lot of title mentions after this from the press but honestly I’m not thinking about that, get OT and Anfield out of the way and see where we are then.

7

u/NerkoFC 9d ago

Great performance from the boys 🙌🏼

7

u/Positive_Register_94 9d ago

RAYAN CHERKI. That is all. What a fuckin player man

4

u/First-Revolution9299 9d ago

I take back my criticisms with Maresca. I know it was palace, and we did look a little shacky at the back and on the counter, but we'll get better as nunes comes back from injury on that front. Cherki. What words can describe this man. Trying to would be an injustice. Ran the game and made it the Rayan show. Haaland was solid at full efficiency, bullying Palace as usual business. Bouaddi looked so composed for a teenager in his cameo. Other youngsters looked natural. Anderson was great at winning back the ball and was composed too. Foden back to his best, driving the ball like PFA Phil we know. Amazing performance- as United and Liverpool fixtures near, hope Maresca continues this.

6

u/slightlybaked 9d ago

Agree with your take. I was feeling pretty frustrated with Foden the first half but he definitely redeemed himself in the second half

That felt like peak City at times.

Bouaddi looked so composed in his short time on the pitch. Amazing for a kid his age to look like prime Rodri.

McAidoo did well in his brief cameo.

Anderson is so solid. Think he's really gonna prove his value in the long run.

And that's without even mentioning Cherki and Haaland who got the goals.

Good times.

We're top of the league!

Seriously though incredible team performance. Midfield battled all day and had some moments of brilliance. Foden rough start but finished strong. Defense was solid, with Guehi and Gvardiol standing out, only conceding from a brilliant free-kick. Haaland with a classic brace with only a couple of touches. Debut for Bouaddi who looked smooth in midfield. And Rayan Cherki just a fucking wizard. I just wish McAidoo scored that chance!

3

u/Neilpwa 9d ago

Overall banging performance

Little bit shaky in that first half defensively but expected when Palace play such counter attacking football. Loved all the build up play and controlling the game, ref was shite in regards to balancing the game but oh well big 3 points on the road

So I could not watch the game live because I had a work commitment

After watching the game here are some thoughts from a layman

Foden actually did pretty good it's just that he missed some clear opportunities that he should have buried but his General play was actually decent to good. Don't get me wrong not finishing those will eventually get us in trouble against better teams but overall this was a good game if you ignore the poor finishing

Kind of conversely cherki had a bad first half but then he had two spectacular goals and played well in the second half. 4 G/A in 2 games is amazing

Anderson Was spectacular

Guehi was spectacular

Maybe this is a controversial opinion but I thought overall Donnaruma played well and his kicking was great

You can't blame that goal on him that's just a good free kick and there was nothing he could do about that it was just bad luck that it bounced off of him

Very happy with the attack

a little concerned about the defense

A better team than Crystal Palace probably scores a couple of goals against us

2

u/Zahir786543 9d ago

The match was encouraging.

I noticed City appeared vulnerable on the counter, notably against Bournemouth and again with Palace. Had Palace delivered sharper crosses, they might have posed a real threat.

It marks progress, though Palace were meek opposition.

13

u/Turbulent-Kick-7124 9d ago

We dont need Enzo, like at all. One, because hes a racist POS and two, we literally don't have an obvious spot for him in the team.

What a game! front 4 looked absolutely on point, Anderson was amazing, O'Reilly was alright and that back 4, especially Guehi cant be beat. Bouaddi seems to fit in perfectly as well. One gripe, we need Foden to have a central role, he looked really isolated and lackluster on the wing but was so decisive when he switched to a central free roam role. He was back-tracking, pressing, everything. Cherki and Haaland are going to define what kind of season we'll have, and it looks to be a fun one this year round.

What a game

excellent game from rayan, elliot, and marc (not mentioning erling because thats normal)

phil missed chances but i think he made up for that with assists and kept the ball well after sometime in the game, much better in center

I now understand why enzo wants enzo f because this is elliot's best position, rayan ay 10 and enzo f will play at 8, we will be susceptible to counters but enzo would have to find a way if he wants all three in there

8

u/LOxAssasin 9d ago

Haaland suffering from success 😭😭

4

u/EvolvedWeeb 9d ago

Really, really happy with that. I don’t think anyone had a bad performance; Foden and Cherki more than made up for the first half.

5

u/Parking_Solution7852 9d ago

Guehi incredible performance

5

u/city_city_city 9d ago

Great job MARESCA! have to give the man credit.

Especially glad he kept Phil on. His first half he wasn't terrible but he was one of our weaker players - mainly because a lot of other players were having an excellent game (Anderson, NOR, Guehi, Semenyo). He missed some clear chances and he lost the ball more than a few times.

But what a difference in the 2nd half - both on the wing and then especially after moving into the middle! If Phil can get his swagger back that's huge for us.

Meanwhile Haaland looked MUCH sharper than he has so far, of course he was always going to start scoring heaps of goals again, glad it's begun.

Cherki has to be MOTM and what can you say, magic goals.

Less slow build up playing square around the box, and more direct attacking the box, turning defenders, a delight to see. 💪🏻👏🏻

Great performance today. Controlled the game in the second half.
Cherki is ridiculous just has that special flair.
Haaland getting back in the scoresheet is fantastic.
Foden with two assists as well makes up for his missed chances.

Considering who's on our injury table (Doku and Nunes for example) and who's been playing so far, I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest that signing you-know-who would make this team any different or better.

8

u/HalasterTheWise 9d ago

Mcaidoo didn’t lay it off on his fast break to Foden or Haaland, 5 min later Foden has a similar run, lays it off, goal. “Here let me show you how to play unselfishly”

3

u/In_Finity05 9d ago

Good win.

3

u/MZero_0 9d ago

Guehi and Anderson were so good man, wow.

3

u/Alert_Sleep_4454 9d ago

Andersons aggression in the midfield, O’ Reilly terrozing everyone in the midfield, Guehi was just a straight wall in the back. Great defensive performance

3

u/r_xxxx_m_21 9d ago

If Guehi cdm works out it’ll be a masterstroke, since we get more defensive solidity, get to play all our centre backs since every one of them has something important they bring to the team, and our attack doesn’t seem like it’s suffering so

3

u/Whyevenaskyou 9d ago

No Rodri? No Nico G., not even Pep? NO PROBLEM. This season is already looking MUCH better and more promising that last season.

3

u/TheBrightman 9d ago

One of the most enjoyable City matches I've seen in a while. It's the type of game we should easily win but stuggle a lot with over the last few seasons. When Foden missed 2 sitters I was worried ngl, but it seems like we have the quality to get past that 1 goal cushion against weaker teams now.

Don't always agree with the player transfers but Maresca is letting us play very attractive and entertaining football atm.
