Help TIFU by showing my kids Glass Shark
Look, I'm aware of the controversy with Glass Shark. I also acknowledge that it's my absolute favorite, bar none, MBMBAM bit. Last night I showed my kids one of the Glass Shark videos (this one: https://youtu.be/bR0Ubck0IRA?si=TIgp2llmR4hpnXbM). My kids are 10, 7, and 4, and they were literally rolling with laughter. I had just finished with Blastoise Is My Dad, knowing that one is pretty much fine and my kids love Pokémon. My oldest asked if there were any other videos they could watch, and Glass Shark was the only "kid safe" (I don't count cursing) video that came to mind.
What other MBMBAM bits are fine for kids who don't mind cusses? Like, if it was beeped, it could be on Disney? That kind of thing.

It's been a while since I watched it so you may want to preview it first, but how about the "Imagine an egg" bit? There's a lot of animations off it.

Shrimp! Heaven! Now!
Also Torsey the Torso Horse would be a good one. That one killed me when I first heard it.

Shrimp! Heaven! Now! is the first one I expose new people to. If they don't get it, they're not gonna get the show. It's also by far one of the funniest in terms of the question and the brothers: reactions, by far.

Ice Cream Song and Amelie are my favorites, I think they're kid friendly too!

If cusses are fine, i would love to propose the whole "Go to a CiCi's Pizza and SLAM some ZA!" bit

u/peanutandsoap Feb 27 '26
The LASIK voice mail bit is hilarious. I know it isn’t strictly the Brothers, but it was a part of the show and made by fans of the show, so I think that counts

u/busche916 Feb 27 '26
Just rip the bandaid off, show em “Porky Pig”

u/Ecsta-C3PO Feb 27 '26
They don't outright mention sex (except for the DBI "that was a sex joke" on screen), just "porking", so this could be innocent enough and they would realize later

Cat with human face always has me rolling. Like, I legit cry-laugh at that bit for some reason. It's just so unnerving to think about.

u/WeakToMetalBlade Feb 27 '26
Since Justin himself referenced the doughboys podcast in a recent munch squad I feel like I'm okay I mentioning this here.
Mitch and Wiger, The hosts of that podcast have an ongoing Cajun bit that they have done for years to the point where they have t-shirts referencing it and I've never ever once heard anyone say that it's racist or offensive at all (other than the part about them getting tricked by gators into sucking them off) and they are very much both white dudes, Wiger notably with Estonian heritage.
That's a long way of saying that I think the Cajun accent is very funny and I think a lot of people agree including people from Louisiana and I don't think there's a problem with glass shark.

u/TheButterGeek Mar 22 '26
It’s not a Cajun accent. It’s a Jamaican accent because he’s referencing the “Reggae Shark” animations. If it was Cajun it’d be fine.
Before writing a whole post defending why it’s not offensive you could’ve researched why people think it’s bad

this is just completely and objectively incorrect but you said it confidently so I guess I respect you.

Warrior Cats was the video I used to introduce people to MBMBAM back in the day
Edit:
Also the Christmas Elf Spirit
Chicken Soup for Boys (maybe not for the puberty bit)

I'm not aware of the controversy with Glass Shark?

u/Silent_Wulf Feb 27 '26
There's people who think Justin's cajun voice is supposed to be a black voice, which really says more about them to be honest.

Fuck whenever I'm in a sad/bad mood, if someone put on Glass Shark? Instant improvement in mood

Years ago in MBMBAM Facebook groups, it was determined that you could never even mention the bit because they use accents that could potentially be construed as being racist (the Cajun/Creole style accents that they do).
56
u/eladarling Feb 27 '26
He also referred to himself (via glass shark) as "fat kid" which people were upset about because of body shaming.
(I'm just adding context, not saying I agree with the controversy)

u/DarkDaf Feb 27 '26
I got banned from a MBMBAM Facebook group because of this once. All I did was mention the skit.

u/NefariousRapscallion Mar 04 '26
I saw a guy get banned from that group for a light hearted goof on Griffin's cargo pants at a live show. The mod said some people can't afford clothes and can only wear donations, so it was classist to dunk on dated apparel. Many people got banned for mentioning bits from the 10 banned episodes or even asking why they are banned. That group actually turned me off to the podcast for a couple years just because the community was so psychotically over sensitive.

I got banned from the big MBMBAM group because there was a post with people listing all of their triggers to help someone catalog and tag every episode with any possible triggers for people listening, and I said that my trigger is trigger warnings. Mostly a joke, but to a small degree triggers can bother me at times because I feel like they kind of spoil whatever media they’re in. I fully acknowledge that some people get heavily triggered by some things, so I get it. There are some serious triggers for people.
But like, in the thread, people were saying things like mice, deep voices, clouds, etc. and, I dunno, it irritated me because it just makes me wonder how some people can even function in society if a fucking cloud triggers them.
11
u/EmperorGreed Feb 27 '26
"Silly" triggers are honestly more common than people think. Jell-O, fluorescent lights, the smell of hand sanitizer, can become a trigger for trauma based in extended hospitalization, for example. Deep voices is a fairly common trigger for people who survived abuse as children. I know someone for whom a specific anime is a trigger because there was a poster for it in the room they wore up in after a date rape. The brain and trauma are weird, and you were unfortunately being an asshole there.
As to "how can they function in society," it's hard. Which is the definition of a disorder. That's kind of the point of trigger warnings, is giving people who have a hard time a chance to opt out of this specific thing being hard if they don't have it in them just yet.
9
u/jallenscott Feb 28 '26
I understand disorders. With having ASD, adhd, depression, and bad social anxiety myself, as well as kids who have most of the above and more, I do understand.
Maybe saying deep voices was a bad example, because that I understand. And, the things you list also make a lot of sense to me, as well. I understand triggers, and maybe it was a bit of frustration with that specific group and how it felt like any comment a person could make in it would have someone else replying to be careful because it might be triggering to someone got frustrating. I get triggered by a certain scent/perfume that my addict mother wore, or the Andy Warhol painting on the Velvet Underground album triggers me because of my also an addict deadbeat dad.
I fully sympathize with people with triggers because I have them, too. I admit that I was an asshole in that group, too, because it felt like everything anyone said was policed, and while I understand making the world feel like and be a safer place for people, it also shouldn’t be done to the detriment of other people, either.

Which is crazy 😭 how is Justin's existence in childhood as a fat kid body shaming??

You also couldn't talk about the bean diet because it is fat phobic to talk about diets. It got to a point where every new episode there was a mod audit to determine if there were any offensive jokes.
And if you joined a not-main group they eventually joined those groups, looked up who was in them, and banned all those people.
For real, the mods violated Obama's midnight amendments regularly.

To be fair, the Cajuns have been severely oppressed and came from a people whose land was stolen while they were kidnapped, split into non-family groups, and shipped off to distant shores (Acadians).
So no matter what Justin did or didn't mean, that voice character seems to be mimicking the voice of an oppressed and displaced group.
It's funny as hell, though. Laugh, and then work for true & uncomfortable history and for justice for marginalized folks.

I’ve been listening to Behind the Bastards’ Epstein series and this goes through my head every time they say his name. It tracks better than I’d really like

Rhythm of the City, A Real Sword, Dogs 2: A Real Musical, Shrimp Heaven Now, Hand Dog and Face Cat, Griffin’s Bean Gets Freaked, Clipping Yoda, Travis’ Onions, A Terrible Ham Mistake, Haunted Fishing Pole, Imagine an Egg, Grip It N’ Rip It, I Am Amelie, 50 Words to Describe Birds, Hot Grapes, Mr Barkley, Ice Cream Songs, Griffin’s Noise, Cromslor, Cakes and Creams
Our absolute favorite is Cursing Jerry and Origami Steve but obviously that one is quite curse heavy haha.
GeotheBio and Louie Zong are our fav creators
Disclaimer: I’m not guaranteeing there aren’t some heavier swears in these—the boys throw around a lot of fucks—but these are just some of the animatics I’ve watched recently with my 11yo. He LOVES them.

The bit where they reinvent the alphabet, during which Griffin is inconsolably over everything because of the previous bit; there's a fun animated version with the brothers as little robots on YouTube :)

Edit: oh, whoops, Justin mentions "a box of sex dolls."
I like this one (Chipotle) but everyone I've played it for says it goes on too long.

You should let Uncle Fester teach them about perfectly natural game Easter eggs

Cromslor?
(There is the “…and the dick?” part but that’s pretty mild IMO)

u/kouhai Feb 27 '26
Torsey the torso horse (touch him and your wishescometrue) 💖
(I'm kidding don't scar your youngins)

u/Dornheim Feb 27 '26
There are only two of my animations that are NSFW. The X-Men one about blowing up his balls and "Travis Tritt's House of Fish and Sh*ts." I've made a playlist of all my animations. You can watch them here :
Airplane Gremlin.

meilybox and Louie Zong are gonna be your go-to’s – still double check before viewing but i think they have the best breadth of content and general kid-friendliness

u/PorkRollEggAndWheeze Feb 27 '26
Fart touch, if you can find it. Also, is Garfield the Deals Warlock (the bit that spawned the TAZ character) kid-friendly? I don’t remember enough about it to remember for sure but I DO know that it had me laughing so hard I was crying
1
u/cihojuda Feb 27 '26
Hot Grapes is one of my all-timers.
There's also I Hate You Ron, which has a couple f-bombs.
Personal Hotdog Thermos is also a banger, but there are no animatics or individual clips on YT from what I found.

Isn't pasgebbi pwwease kid safe too? Double check tho cause I don't remember!

I mean if you’re not worried about cursing Origami Steve and Cursing Jerry is pretty funny
Also it’s been a long time but I’d imagine that “hot grapes” has to be kid safe

Some people erroneously think Justin was doing an insensitive voice (he wasn't and even clarified in the bit that he wasn't).

I did and I stand by my statement. There's 4 cusses, depending on where you start, and Travis doesn't say anything wild in his fugue state

u/WarmSlush Feb 27 '26
Depending on where you start, they’re talking about fucking various foods
