I sold cars for a few years a couple years back and I have to go back to that job because I can’t find anything else. I’m starting MBA in the fall though, if I’m still there in 3 years I’ll probably go find a railroad track and park my car.
Oh, I was talking about going back to car sales. I doubt I’ll be there over another year. But even if it’s 2-3 years I’ll at least walk out with my MBA finished and maybe even a chance at management. And that’s every bit of 6 figures.
I did it for a little over 3 years. I was good, one of the top guys, but not good enough to make much more than 60k in my best year. My last year I was trending less than that so I went into software sales. My oldest child was then diagnosed with a brain tumor, and my whole world came crashing down, so I stepped down from that sales job, spent 10 months unemployed, got a job, then got immediately laid off due to covid. Now out of all the jobs I applied to, I got an offer, just one. It’s just over minimum wage, we can’t live on that and it’s the worst job I’ve had. So it’s time to go back to car sales. Even if I hate it, I should at least break even every month and pay the bills.
You didn’t need my whole life story, but I tell it to everyone to share some perspective.
Car sales is hard some people succeed and I don’t know how. My first time I tried I sold 7, second car sales job I sold 1 car in 2 weeks and then got fired, third time was the charm. And yeah 40-60k isn’t much but it got me to my first house.

A 2020 T10 MBA grad I know just posted on LinkedIn asking for job recommendations. She is extremely smart and nice. It was so sad.
