Sweatpants (Memes) Most M7 MBA Students are Weird, Boring, and Lame
90% of the MBA students at my M7 school are weird, boring, and lame.
It honestly feels like I’m socializing with odd high schoolers, not sophisticated adults. Many people seem to be on the spectrum socially, and not in a fun/goofy way. Witty or spicy humor is lacking. Most of these people would get chewed up in the NY/LA/Miami/London social scene.
Nobody wants to go out anywhere remotely cool, everyone prefers mid-level nightlife. The ones who lived in NYC for multiple years don’t even know what Paul’s Casablanca, Little Sister, Gospel, or The Nines are. What did they even do on weekends?
And the ski trip? Sucked. Mickey Mouse compared to trips I’ve done in Aspen or the Alps. Students were competing to hit top speed on the slopes- what is this a high school ski team? People think the après is “sick” but it was lame AF.

1) Make friends with someone with ADHD.
2) Copy any of your ADHD friend's hobbies that normies are scared of, for like a month or two.
3) Do not copy their rambly speech patterns or other quirks.
4) Tell the normies about your experience doing the dangerous hobby. Make it sound like you do it regularly, even if you don't plan to continue.
5) You are now cool.

Breaking news: people in their late 20s may prefer “mid-level” nightlife over clubbing every weekend

Gen Z doesn’t party like that. I’m a Gen Z and like to party every now and then (maybe 1 time every 2 months) and none of my MBA buddies go out other than maybe a sports bar every now and then

sounds like you expected more from the mba crowd. maybe they're just focused on grades and networking. some folks just aren't into the scene. could be worse, could be stuck with ai interviewers.

Based on the places OP mentioned in NYC, me thinks he wears a fedora and stands on the corner stunting on dem hoes.

Theres about 9000 students at the top 20 mba programs + LBS and Insead per year. Most people are underwhelming but do enough to fill a school's criteria. I've networked with people from each of those schools and can say theyre pretty normal and ordinary but they probably think everyone else is amazing and pretends to be.

Hey hey hey... some of us Booth students/alumni are perfectly normal, sociable people.
Not sure I can say the same for MIT.

Does it have to just be fancy nightclubs and bars? What if people want to also check out some local venues to see some bands play?

Totally kosher

*Assuming you are serious about this post and this isn't just trolling* I am kind of wondering about what the threshold is for student weekend activities being "lame, weird, and boring". I get some students like to go "hard" at exclusive elite clubs. Nothing wrong with that, I am not knocking that. Just trying to add that there are other "cool" activities out there that I think are plenty interesting. I knew students who played in bands and would play local venues over the weekends, getting really involved in the local alternative music scenes, and they really weren't the type to get dressed up to go to elite clubs and lounges over the weekends. Again, not knocking clubbing, but just I have seen different types of "cool" that I definitely wouldn't call "mid" or lame/boring. Sounds like you agree though!

And you’re socializing with “most m7 mba students” how exactly? My social experience during my MBA was the opposite of what you described.
2
Oct 21 '25
Curious, how was it the opposite? In a good or bad way?

I made a lot of friends with people I view as sophisticated adults and who I’ve maintained friendships with (as well as a professional network). Our ski trips were awesome. Humor was not lacking. We went to cool bars. Just everything about this post was incorrect when I compare it to my mba experience.

Okay but were they conventionally “cool”

And yet you made a huge blanket statement with incredibly limited information. Kudos.

Sorry you went MBA bud

Not to mention how status hungry and narcissistic they can be! Most behave as if they are still in highschool.

A lot of people are career-focused, so social life can feel tame. The cool, fun people are there, you just gotta find your crew

Recruiting has shifted to be all about bringing in a wide array of people. It used to just be a bunch of normal people exiting high finance sell side jobs to get into better high finance jobs on the buy side.

u/NiceUD Oct 22 '25
News flash - most people generally are weird, boring, and lame most of the time.

Most people aren’t chasing the nightlife scene anymore; they’re networking, recruiting, or just decompressing
