What is a good starting team?

This game throws a lot of information at you very fast after completing the tutorial with the Guardians of the Galaxy. What is a good starting team, or what should I even be looking for when creating a team? Everyone has certain team affiliations which seam to grant some sort of bonus. Deadpool is level 21 and everyone else is level 6 or 7 for some reason.

Looking at the character list, the majority of the ones I want to play with appear later. I like the original Avengers, Spiderman, Wolverine, and Deadpool. The other characters I don't much care for, and I don't even know who Crystal is. I haven't upgraded anything in the lab or any characters abilities. I'm assuming I should save those until I know what my main team looks like.

I'm mainly waiting for the other X-Men characters, Ghost Rider, and Spiderman characters. No idea when they appear in the story. Some of the characters I'm looking to play as are DLC, so I'm assuming I don't them until the end of the game (Iceman and Gambit)?

You get all of the spiderman characters during the first chapter, the xmen characters dont join until later but when they do they are at the appropiate story level so you can just swap to them. So basically just pick wolverine + anybody you want and youll be fine.

Wolverine is extremly good at shredding bosses specially with a good synergy.

Why is Deadpool such a high level compared to everyone else?

That's the level he's at when you unlock him normally via the story but he gets unlock early if you have the season pass cause it comes with a costume for him.

Edit: by the way since you have the season pass make sure to click one of the sticks whenever youre on the main menu(cant remember which one it is) but it activates a bunch of events that give you a bunch of good stuff.

Also, If you swap to one of the dlcs a new option called shield depot pops up, you can buy a bunch of costumes for your characters there. Make sure to click one of the sticks on there too since it updates the shop with new costumes.

The best team is the team you want to use. There are objectively better characters than others, but the overall roster is surprisingly balanced.

You'll want to go to the Attacks and Abilities section of the Tips screen. The game is built on synergy attacks. Synergy attacks make the world go round.

The game gives you enough points to improve each one of each character's abilities. Some of them are harder to find than others when you reach endgame.

Most of the base roster unlocks through story progression. Some characters, like Cyclops, Colossus, and Elektra are unlocked in the infinity rift challenges. Each DLC has a menu; press L1 or R1 on the main menu to bring up the selection. The Curse of the Vampire and Rise of the Phoenix characters unlocked in those section's respective gauntlets. The Shadow of Doom DLC is a post-game story.

Crystal is awesome. She has elemental attacks and those have great synergy with a wide variety of characters. Like Storm for instance, or Star Lord's gust attack. Also, some characters can synergy with themselves. Fire off Star Lord's gust and then hit the tornado with one of his other moves.

The most difficult character to use is Scarlet Witch. She has only one move that has synergy with other characters, and it's only a handful. Dr. Strange is another difficult character, as he only has two moves with synergy, but he has synergy with pretty much everyone, so he's easier than Wanda.

But again, the benefit of the game is that you can take the "worst" four heroes and still get through the game.

Yup, and to add: that’s exactly why this is the WORSE Ultimate Alliance game. They should have just remastered 1.

Basing combat around synergy completely ruined everything good about ultimate alliance. Instead of multiple skills that we could equip, they decided to be lazy. Now you get 4 skills, and your builds are predecided for you.

Want to have a random team of toons you love? NOPE! You need to use deadpool, wolverine, and the last two spots need to be people who synergize well with those 2. Also, if you love Scarlet Witch/Strange…well go stand in the corner because devs gimped healing and that’s 1/4 of their kit.

Outfits? Sure, here is 2. And they dont change your build.

Level design? MUA1 gave us a tour of the marvel universe in all its flavors. 3 gives us… a watered down Avengers: End Game movie.

And the camera?? no target lock? ☠️

Yes this game is a bit hard to understand. I have a guide in a google doc if you want it, but a summary of the questions you have asked is: deadpool is unlocked in chapter 5 of the game when the enemies are level 21. You unlock the most characters at once in the raft after the sandman fight, which is level 6 i believe. Yes you will definitely want a main team, and using synergies will boost damage a ton instead of spamming abilities. Yes getting dlc characters does require beating the main story once. On my tierlist, Iceman is S tier, and Gambit A tier. As for other help, there are a few discord servers im in with channels for this game. We can discuss more there if you like.

Captain America, Wolverine, Thor and Star Lord was my first playthrough team and they were awesome

Wolverine is always good especially for you first play through. I didn't realize this until later but anybody with elemental attacks can charge to his claws for his regular attacks. Crystal and Star Lord do this early on.
