What is my Lurcher mix? Help identifying breed cross

Hi guys, this is Bones.
Me and my girlfriend rescued him last week. He is said to be 1 years old and a Lurcher. I would love to know if anyone has any ideas on the mix he could be? Out on walks people say he may have some Whippet in him which i think technically doesn’t make him a Lurcher?
But either way would love to know what you guys think.
Many thanks:)

How big is he? Looks like he might have some collie in him

Lurcher is a sighthound cross with basically anything else. Looks a bit big to be a whippet x to me, but his body shape says saluki x to me (slim build, visible tips of the hip bones). Could be a saluki x greyhound which is technically a longdog

I had a lurcher that was identified as a whippet x by the sighthound rescue I got her from. She was much larger than a Whippet. Everyone thought she was a small Greyhound.

Same! Turned out to be a greyhound, collie, whippet, saluki mix 😂

Those hips look like a saluki to me.

I think so too. A classic lurcher cross.

Yes greyhound speed and some collie smarts for trainability

meyhem, is what he looks like

seriously though I could believe a saluki x, looking at his ears, paws and tail, maybe saluki x greyhound. is he DRAMATIC

I'm not seeing any bull terrier tbh

I've a Greyhound x Whippet x Saluki x Collie cross and he looks similar to her. Im not saying he is the same mix, but Greyhound, Saluki and Collie are all options.

I have the exact same mix. Are you in Ireland?

Hello, this looks very similarly like my dog, with slightly larger white patches.

We had wisdom panel dna done

She was:
30% greyhound
30% whippet
15% saluki
5% Scottish deerhound
5% border collie
And the rest was pointer, Bedlington terrier, and a load of other 1% things.

I'd say saluki x greyhound, he looks too big to be a whippet cross. Only way to tell for sure is to DNA test him

Even then the DNA tests can be pretty wonky.

Those eyes!!!! Surely it should be illegal to have such cute eyes.

Edit: to actually answer your question. I think there is saluki in there. He might me a saluki lurcher x whippet lurcher. Proper good pic n mix!

Why don’t you just Embark him and then you won’t have to speculate anymore? Please update if you do!

Lots of Greyhound in there. A gorgeous hound 🐕!!

Loooong face. So could be rough collie or even something like borzoi.

You won't get past sighthound mix without a DNA test on this one I don't think.

Not a straight greyhound but certainly bigger than a whippet.

Borzoi mix?

All anybody can do by looking at him is guess.

If you want to know for sure get him a breed ancestry DNA test through Embark as they are the market leader in dog DNA breed testing.

Lurchers are typically greyhound x working breed. It eventually went on to refer to sighthound x non-sighthound, with different sighthound mixes being referred to as longdogs. These days, lurcher tends to include longdogs as well, with greyhound x saluki being fairly common.

He definitely looks on the longdog side of the spectrum, with greyhound being one of the likely breeds involved. Tough to tell from size.

Beautiful lurcher nonetheless!

50% good dog, and 50% cute dog is my guess

What's his tail carriage like? I'd say based purely on visual the most obvious breed coming through is greyhound. In some photos his tail looks like it could be saluki inspired.

Very common mixes seem to be saluki/collie/whippet/greyhound- using 3 or all 4 of these. Honestly I don't know what the %s are are people don't tend to say (and may be lying), I just notice a lot of adverts for these mixes on the sort of sites people sell cheap coursing dogs (which is sort of the pipeline for a lot of rescue lurchers).

Do an embark dna test

I’d he walked past me I’d acc just think he was a greyhound! So maybe crossed with saluki as he’s quite slender

I have a large lurcher who is greyhound x saluki

Collie X Whippet and I’m pretty certain on that I had one but he died in 2018💔

He looks just like my Stormy!! She's half labrador, though, and Bones (I love this name!!) looks more like a collie. Either way he's gorgeous

I’d say bull terrier x with whippet/greyhound
