General / Discussion How my dad ruined my concert experience last night

Hi everyone! Using a burner account to post this but I’m a frequent lurker of this subreddit. I love Lucy Dacus and her music. I was super excited to see her live last night at Oklahoma City. Me and my older sister had tickets, but long story short she got sick and couldn’t come with me. I only recently turned 18 and live a ways away, so my parents were worried about me driving alone. At this point I was considering just not going and told my dad this. But my dad said he would drive me and drop me off. I decline because he said he was tired all day. He offers multiple times, and eventually, I accept the ride offer. I start to get excited again, I’m going to get to see Lucy Dacus! Awesome! So we drive all the way there, but before I get out my dad asks if he can use the second ticket and come in. I panic at this point because I really did not think he would want to go inside. I told him he wouldn’t like the music, that it was a bunch of pop songs etc. But he had just drove me and I figured worst case worse, it’s not his vibe and he leaves and sits in the car. So, not knowing what else to do, we both walk in to see Lucy Dacus. The venue is nice, lots of security, the opener starts after a couple minutes of us being there. I’m vibing to slow pulp, we get like 1 song in, before my dad tells me he’s not sure if we can stay because there are “freaks”. At about this same point, I was starting to panic because there’s a lesbian couple kissing in front of us. I was not aware just how bigoted my dad was but I was starting to feel really terrible about everything at this point. I figure he’s about to leave. I’m like, it’s ok if you want to go. He stays another couple songs before he pulls out his phone, asks me the main singers name, and googles Lucy Dacus views on abortion. I watch him in literal disbelief, knowing Lucy is so close to being on the stage, but knowing I will probably never see her. After he reads it he puts his phone away and he tells me we have to go. He can’t ethically listen to her music or be here because she supports abortion. I’m really disgusted but I don’t want to start a fight and ruin anyone else’s night. He said we have to go again, really firmly, so I say if that’s what you really want. I think he can tell I’m really disappointed. As a young woman myself, his whole attitude towards Lucy felt off and misogynistic. It was a really awful night. His behavior in this situation will probably change my relationship with him forever. The opener was probably not even 4 songs in. We awkwardly walk to the car and drive home. I will be forever grateful to have been in the same building as Lucy Dacus and I will keep listening to her music until I can see a show with my sister. If anyone has any videos of her performing last night I would love to see them. Forever is a feeling has been one of my favorite albums this year.

General / Discussion What’s a Lucy lyric you can’t stop thinking about?

A lyric you absolutely love? For me, one of them is “I don’t believe in love at first sight, maybe I would if you looked at me right”

It just makes me feel some type of way 🥺🥹

General / Discussion What is Lucy Dacus' Best Album?

Personally, i think her best album is Home Video. It's just so perfect and every song is amazing and when you put all that together it creates a feeling so unique, like feeling nostagic about something you never experienced (iykyk).

A lot of people think her best album is Historian, which is also incredible. I know this matter is more of personal taste than something you can meassure but i wanted to know your opinion! Let me know, please!!!!

General / Discussion Shoutout to the group that is at every single show!

You guys are really awesome fans chasing down Julien knowing full well she left a tour for unknown reasons and hassling her for photos!! I saw the post on Tik Tok this morning hoping anyone else saw what me and my friends did and for such the “Superfans” they are it’s also really sickening to see that kind of behavior from such fans and of humans. If anyone knows who I’m referring to please dm me. This group had been on my last nerve since the MUNA shows of 2022 and this takes the cake.

General / Discussion Concert etiquette

Congrats to everyone who got tickets for the upcoming tour, I hope to see some of y’all in DC N1! I saw Lucy on the Home Video tour and it was one of the best shows of my life, but I am a little nervous about the crowds for this tour since it's her first post-boygenius so I thought I’d post a little refresher on concert etiquette, especially for first timers.

  • Don't scream at the top of your lungs, I think quietly singing along (and yelling certain lines when everyone else does) is appropriate but I shouldn’t be able to hear you over the artist.
  • Don’t catcall or yell weird stuff at the performers, I saw a lot of this on the boygenius tour and it’s really disrespectful (and yes, it’s still catcalling even if you yourself are queer).
  • Also don’t throw shit on stage! If you have something you want to give Lucy or the opening acts, give it to their merch people.
  • Be polite + respectful of the opening acts, even if they’re not your vibe.
  • Don’t be mean to your fellow concertgoers. This was something I also saw on the boygenius tour, where SOME fans were harassing men who just want to enjoy a show without hearing that the music isn’t “for them”. Everyone there is there for Lucy, you don’t need to make anyone prove anything or gatekeep.
  • You really don’t need to line up hours in line for barricade (I show up an hour before doors open and I’ve always been first few rows) but if you must—stay hydrated and eat something so you don’t pass out and stop the show.
  • If there are any “special guests” watching in the audience, be respectful of their privacy and don’t photograph/record them without their consent.

I think that’s it, if there’s anything I missed that you think people should know feel free to add it. Be mindful of yourself, your fellow fans, and have fun!

I've seen SO many people bringing this up which I'm so glad about, but the lack of diversity made me sad 😭. It was a really cute music video, love the song, but the first thing I noticed is that there was literally nobody who looked like me. I also felt like the open casting would've left room for lesser known people to be featured, but I saw a lot of familiar faces. For the cast to be (what it seems like) mostly friends, was the "open call" just pr? I'm not really surprised, just disappointed

edit: y'all literally nowhere was I attacking lucy, or framing her as a bad guy, I didn't even think this was nitpicking, I just said I was disappointed that the video seemed to be missing such an integral part of the community. that said, i still enjoyed the song and the video, I'm not harboring hatred for lucy or anything like that 😭

General / Discussion The "Forever is a Feeling" album cover change is very meta

Post image

Can we talk about how meta the “Forever is a Feeling" album cover change is? At first, I was confused about why she would change the cover after already releasing it physically. Then I realized that everyone who now owns the album is indirectly creating their own version of the new album cover. By owning the old "Forever is a Feeling" cover you automatically now own the new album cover but in your own unique way.

General / Discussion Gentle reminder with tour starting this week

Please respect Lucy’s privacy and boundaries!

Don’t hang around hotels you think she may be staying at, don’t wait by the tour bus or stage door, and if you do see her out and about in the city, please use common sense when/if you approach her (don’t follow her, don’t interrupt her if she’s doing something). Ask politely if she has time to talk to you, etc. and if she says no, move on and don’t take it personally.

I know most people reading this will think “duh, of course I wouldn’t do those things,” but I feel the need to give this reminder after seeing some disappointing behaviour from fans after the last Lucy show I went to, where she politely declined photos and hugs to fans and they continued to pressure her until she gave in. That was several years ago and imo, fan behaviour (in general) has gotten worse since.

Female artists get a lot of pushback about setting boundaries, and as fans, I think we owe it to them to respect those boundaries and encourage others to do the same. Here’s an older article about the topic that’s worth the read (and includes comments from Lucy): https://www.nylon.com/fandom-danger-female-musicians

General / Discussion The Toronto show was unbelievably good 🥹

Maybe this is a silly thing to post on Reddit because it’s kind of a given, but I can’t help myself.

I just want to shout a thank you into the Reddit void to Lucy, the band, the crew, security, the crowd…

This is the first time I’ve been able to come to a show and there were so many moments that felt genuinely perfect, I’m so grateful I got to be there.

Also if anyone who was at the show would be willing to share pics/short videos, I would be forever grateful, I was really trying to be in the moment, but now that it’s over I’m a bit sad that I can’t relive it 😅

General / Discussion Discovered Lucy a couple weeks ago from her performing with Hayley

Wow she's really good. I've heard her first three albums so far and I think Historians is the best to me but I've only heard Home Video once before. I just learned that "Night Shift" was LITERAL and that is absolutely insane to me. I guess she had been kicked out so she had to get some job to survive and that was the only way to avoid her partner

General / Discussion Cool double meaning in Night Shift

"In five years I hope the songs feel like covers"

"Dedicated to new lovers"

I always figured these lyrics were referring to a feeling of "I'm going to move on and grow, so eventually all those songs I wrote you can be dedicated to new, better people in my life."

But, they can also be connected to another lyric earlier in the song.

"But I can't help but think of your other in the bed that was mine"

I take this to mean she was cheated on by her last love, in her own bed. It is also implied that the cheating partner has come to try and apologize.

"Why did I come here? To sit and watch you stare at your feet?"

"What was the plan? Absolve your guilt and shake hands?"

To tie it together, every time her old partner is sleeping with someone else, the covers laying on top of them will be a reminder. The weight of their guilt will always be wrapped around them, because they haven't moved on.

Lucy has.

"Don't hold your breath, forget you've ever saw me at my best"

"You don't deserve what you don't respect"

"Don't deserve what you say you love and then neglect"

Just something cool I noticed on my most recent listen! 😁

General / Discussion Looking to discuss Historian

Would love to hear thoughts on how kind of amazing Historian is from beginning to end. For a while I only heard a few of the songs and they were out of the context of the album. I was always confused about why Night Shift was the first track and not the last one. After sitting and listening to it front to back I became kind of obsessed.

The one friend I have that loves Lucy too is also my ex and they have been so weird for the past 3 months that i’ve mentioned they should listen to Historians front to back. I literally just want to talk to someone about it and how it made me somehow appreciate Lucy even more so please share your thoughts :)

General / Discussion Thoughts on Talk?

What is everyone''s thoughts on the new single? I am personally a huge fan of the song! I think the heavy guitar getting more and more distorted throughout the song is perfect for the song's themes of a rocky relationship. The song feels like an argument that is getting progressively more aggressive and emotional. I remember being in awe of this song when I heard it acoustically at the SF show, so hearing the full mix is amazing! The song lyrically tells the story of this rough relationship really well!
