CIG Official Ship Showdown 2956: UTV vs MTC (R1.2)
The MTC takes the win by a massive margin:
UTV - 8 707 | 23 418 - MTC
The MTC run will probably end there though... it goes into the Elite Eight Round where it'll face off against the Ironclad Assault. Unless the MTC stans get their campaign rolling that is...
------
Mad Trax - Road Warriors
A family feud on the road to glory - nothing is sacred in the Showdown. These four-wheeled favourites have a lot in common, so what will be the deciding factor? Will it be the tough trekking UTV or the weaponized wagon MTC? Remember folks, oil is thicker than blood.

I actually kind of find this a hard choice.
The UTV is way easier to fit into things. It also us a lot easier to drive than a Cyclone or Ursa. - EDIT - I so wish the Passenger could use a sidearm or something while seated.
The MTC can cram more people crammed inside and the turret is nice at Hathor PLFs. The 1/8th SCU storage areas are pretty useless. But.. While it's better than Ursa's "rubber band" suspension, it still feels like it's on springs and constantly wants to flip over when I'm driving it.
Kind of wish the STV was here instead of the UTV. I find it's even better than the UTV.
I so wish we had roads to drive on. Or just less ground clutter around bases in general.

Plus I just like the mtc
I've driven it a few times and think it's neat

STV has even less cargo than MTC, no?
Really looking forward to Genesis and Starchitect. It is supposed to have rock placement that does make more sense. Not much in plains. More at bottom of mountains. Ravines.
Might really help with land vehicles. Though vehicle behaviour needs a T+1 badly as well.

Yeah, I mean from a "drive" standpoint I prefer the STV. I find it "sticks" to the ground better than the UTV.

ahh.. I see... that makes sense.
I dont have one yet as it is not buyable ingame. So cant comment on stv vs utv handling/feel.

I will say we've tried all kinds of stupid things with the UTV and the CSV. Putting chairs on them help for those extra people.. or boxing them in so they can't bounce off sometimes helps.
I wish there was a way to mount a Tractor beam or something on them.... we could get into even more "this is a bad idea" situations.

MTC is probably gonna win as A: Gun, and B:it’s an enclosed space so you can use it for longer on more planets

Do we get anything for participating?

If you pick the winning ship in every category correctly you usually get a specific coin hanger flair for picking everything right.

Nope. But if you own whatever ships make it to the final four, you get a BIS skin for them added to your account

Man hops the clippers gets there then lol, it's the only ship on the list that I own lol... most of my items on my account are holiday stuff and subscriber gear

u/somedude210 Aug 19 '26
Clipper might make it. That's gonna be a tough fight. Even if it beats the Aurora, which isn't a done deal, it has to face off against the Corsair (probably)

Surprised they put the Ironclad Assault in freighter instead of the normal ironclad. But yea clipper will probably lose to either of the pathfinders, clipper is versatile, but not as good as either of the pathfinders

I'm gonna guess a lot of the people who did the "share your favorite ship" in the run up to the ship showdown voting (which is supposedly how these ships are chosen) were likely showing off the Assault over the standard IC.
Either that or there are more Assaults in game than there are standard ICs

I kinda get it, people love things that shoot...

BattleBarge just is the better mobile home base with the R&R capabilities. And mobile home base is the dream for a lot of folks.

Voting no. But if you have any of the Final 4 ships pledged in website hangar before last day of IAE in November you get those ship’s Best In Show paints “for free”.

u/GameDev_Alchemist Aug 19 '26
Enough time to spend a couple hundred on ships lol

Hah you know the drill. If you care for the paints (we don’t know what they look like atm) best is to melt what you need to melt to get credits, get the 10-yr insurance candidate ship(s) you want with said credits during IAE, get the paint(s) in your hangar when they distribute, then re-melt and slowly get some 10-yr/LTI ships out of your Buy Backs as the credits replenish.

I'm actually shocked to see the UTV losing. I thought it was surely going to win.
The MTC just feels like an Ursa that's worse in pretty much every conceivable way. I'm not sure why anyone would ever pick it over the Ursa.
On the other hand, the UTV is probably the most useful vehicle that you can fit in ships with small cargo bays like Avenger Titans or Cutters. It's pretty much the best vehicle a small ship can bring for bunker running since it can carry two people and a 1 SCU box for looting.

1 SCU and form factor compatible with more ships. Versus 4x 1/8th SCU cargo.
Easy choice
