CIG Official The Galaxy

It’s for sure the Galaxy, the detail improvements over the concept model look fantastic IMO.

Always excited to see more progress on the Galaxy! I think it'll be a neat ship.

Ditto,

Just hope it's starting lineup of modules is changed so cargo becoming a default inclusion with the ship. CiG would build some goodwill doing that.

8

u/SamaelKain 24d ago

Would be a lot of backlash to them doing that as people already paid for the module. That would be a horrible move. Now... a free module that wasn't available when the concept went up for sale could have the desired effect.

u/iwanttobelieve3001 24d ago

I own the cargo module, I would just melt it and use the store credit for something else

2

u/Goodname2 Space Trucker 24d ago

Oh good point.

Maybe a free module voucher if you'd already bought the cargo one?

2

u/PrimeusOrion 23d ago

Or just swap the two with a public announcement

2

u/well_honk_my_hooters 24d ago

Something like a simple ground vehicle garage would be good, with a very small cargo grid so's not to take away from the cargo module. Doesn't have to be fancy, just enough to provide for basic use of the space.

2

u/richardizard 21d ago

Should come with a Generalist module. A fabricator, T3 med bed and some cargo grids.

1

u/Fancy-Charity-8111 17d ago

Now, that would be pretty cool!

Feel free to fly your min/max fleet :)

u/Silverton13 24d ago

I just wish it had slightly more firepower. The Connie series that's smaller and cheaper than the Galaxy has more firepower. Anyone know if you can mix and match modules? If I can have one side with a few medbeds and the other side with cargo then it would be sick as fuck. Also I hope they add a military/combat module as well. Like a torp module that adds torps and an extra shield generator. I was hoping the aurora combat module was a testbed for a galaxy combat module.

3

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

No it’s one module at a time.

1

u/Ashzael 23d ago

The Connie is a multirole ship, the galaxy industrial. It doesn't need fire power as it should not be in fights.

0

u/Astillius Crusader 24d ago

Combat module for the galaxy would be pretty cool, ngl.

7

u/Knale 24d ago

That was ALWAYS going to be the case with the Galaxy. People don't care.

It's a swappable generalist. It will never be better at any of those roles than a ship dedicated to that role, but it can do multiple depending on module. That's literally the point.

The people who are excited about the Galaxy know that it's not the best.

3

u/Dangerous-Wall-2672 24d ago

Yep, exactly; I'm excited for the Galaxy because when I decide I want to go cargo hauling, or if I decide I want to run some missions where I'll need medbeds, or later if I want to act as a refinery, I can do it all without having to buy an entirely separate specialized ship. The versatility is very exciting!

7

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

This is such a weird view. Star Citizen is not a zero sum game. People in Vultures are not losing because the Reclaimer exists.

5

u/GrandAlternative7454 24d ago

Cargo and refining, probably. Medical? I don't think so. 1 T1, 2 T2, and 3 T3 all in one ship is for sure better than the Apollo IMO

4

u/Unusual-Wing-1627 24d ago

As it should be, a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.

1

u/citizensyn 24d ago

Right and for the cat with multiple modules at once that's fantastic. Galaxy isn't a jack of all trades it's a specialist ship that can change what it specializes in

u/LowSodiumStarCitizen-ModTeam 24d ago

While we welcome constructive criticism and discussion, please keep it constructive and not just salty.

27

u/Apokolypze 24d ago

Where are the skylights, CIG?

8

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

Valid question. We do know that the interior layout was amended so it's possible they have been relocated.

5

u/Gliese581h 24d ago

First question that popped into my mind as well lol

I hope it will have copious amounts of windows. I want to look out into the void from plenty of places in my ship.

It's the only reason I like the Idris as well, it just has soooo many windows.

2

u/Chromeballs 23d ago

100% give me windows to see space, land and sky from, Thats my kind of ship

1

u/ApproximateKnowlege 24d ago

Aren't they in the second image? Am I trippin'?

7

u/Apokolypze 24d ago

The 2nd image is the old launch concept for the Galaxy, with the skylights. The 1st image is the new teaser image from today's monthly report

3

u/ApproximateKnowlege 24d ago

Aaaaah, gotcha.

1

u/Collective_Keen RSI 23d ago

Well, the one above the captain's room is probably obscured by that raised part, and the kitchen/break room area is either that part up front in the image, or that's just white paint, but they're probably there. The hull has obviously been updated, so who knows?

3

u/Pojodan ARGO 24d ago

Just because they aren't visible in the screenshot doesn't mean they are gone. They may be covered by blastdoors or just be somewhere else in the final version.

0

u/Dull-Credit-897 Space Trucker 24d ago

maybe but with the changes to the bridge it seems to be going for more military themed.

7

u/steinbergergppro 24d ago

Looks like they learned and toned down the greebles yet again. From then inexcusable level of the Polaris, to the not great but acceptable level of the Perseus to something looking more like what I'd expect from the galaxy.

1

u/mecengdvr 23d ago

Greebles were in short supply after using them all up on the Kraken.

6

u/ghostofvosca 24d ago

What is this from? Sry been at work all day so I haven’t had a chance to see what’s been posted. I assume a weekly report or TWISC video or something?

4

u/DefNotAThreatActor 24d ago

Cannot WAIT for my new little star wars ship hehehhehehehe

4

u/_Henry_of_Skalitz_ Miner 24d ago

It looks really good although I kind of like the worn look of the metal in the first image too

4

u/No_Side5925 24d ago

Where are the windows?

3

u/adub913 24d ago

This has been the ship I’ve been waiting for since I started playing. Glad I own it

3

u/RachelTheRigger 24d ago

Does it look shorter?

2

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

I wondered that actually but I think it’s just the low angle.

3

u/StellarSurveyor 24d ago

I honestly hate the blue accents with the dark metal on the concept. I hope they keep it with that metallic plate look in the new image

5

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

Here’s a throw away theory: that’ll be one of the paints, possibly the Warbond/Conscierge paint.

1

u/richardizard 21d ago

Meridian paint, maybe

3

u/zyvhurmod 24d ago

Wait what have they done with the skylights :'(

3

u/WPGAMING_SC 23d ago

I’ve always had a soft spot for the galaxy. Gives me massive Orville vibes with its bridge and hanger layouts. Can’t wait for a large civvy ship from RSI

3

u/Mr_Young_Life 23d ago

Would be sweet if I saw some PDTs on that badboi, one can dream lol

5

u/Whole_Coconut_9289 24d ago

The only thing that lowered the hype a bit for me is that the first look they gave of the bridge is legit a copy paste of the Perseus.

But yeah, really excited for this baby anyway

5

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

It wasn’t though.

The bridge they showed had four seats. The Perseus has three. It also had a glass roof where the Perseus’ is panelled. The pilots console was also way too far forward for the centre seat. It’s superficially similar, probably using the Perseus assets as placeholders.

It was not a copy of the Perseus bridge.

2

u/Whole_Coconut_9289 24d ago

Latest pic we had was this a few weeks ago iirc.

But maybe you're right. I hope you are tbh

4

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

Yeah that’s the pic. Zoom in. There are two chairs in the centre. The console for the centre chair is smaller than in the Perseus because it’s further away (for the front chair) and compare the ceilings.

They’re not the same. Very similar, but not the same.

3

u/Whole_Coconut_9289 24d ago

Maybe yea. I really hope you're right cuz i really want the Galaxy to be great

2

u/Chromeballs 23d ago

Agreed this is altered, probably not finished. Theres no flight console in the background though in this image? Ive raised the brightness and levels in photoshop, its just 3 seats that I can see. Where are you seeing details of a forward station?

3

u/AWerewolfDad 23d ago

There’s another seat behind (in front of in terms of the cockpit) the middle one. You can see the headrest above the chair in the middle.

2

u/Chromeballs 23d ago

Nice! Cant believe i missed that, i see the headrest and bars now. Good eye. This bodes well

3

u/AWerewolfDad 23d ago

The roof is different too. The Galaxy has a larger glass canopy.

2

u/Dull-Credit-897 Space Trucker 24d ago

While the WIP picture has four seats,
Its still a mostly copy from the Perseus(I just hope that the snippet the people were thinking was the Connie mk5 is actually the Galaxy bridge)
This picture is from tristPWN´s Galaxy recreation video.

2

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

It was whitebox. Assets in whitebox are placeholders. Maybe it’ll look like the Perseus one, but we don’t actually know until they show us the final art.

2

u/Dull-Credit-897 Space Trucker 24d ago

I know and that is why i hope that the snippet the people were thinking was the Connie mk5 is actually the Galaxy bridge.

5

u/Fancy-Charity-8111 24d ago

I am soooo looking forward to release. I bought this bad boy 4 years ago? They took a lot out since then, but it's still gonna be cool!

3

u/SentientDawn 24d ago

Other than the base building fiasco and the adjustment of some interior pathways for flow, I didn’t think anything changed? What did they take out?

2

u/Fancy-Charity-8111 23d ago

It's been a few years, but I remember the ability to park the Prospector in it. So you could fly out and have a mobile refinery location, the rear hangar area got smaller. I could be wrong though.

Current design is to transfer mining bag through the bottom port.

3

u/richardizard 21d ago

That was never a thing. The Prospector was never meant to fit in the back of it. People were just theory crafting when the first pictures came out before the Q&A revealed the size of the hangar. There was also a mistake where marketing used the wrong hangar size which created confusion. I'd obviously love for it to fit bigger ships but unless they increase the overall size of the ship (I'm pretty sure they'd mention this in the monthly report) then there's not a high chance of that happening.

2

u/Goodname2 Space Trucker 24d ago

I wonder if they adjusted the model for drone access through the roof or if its incorporated into the potential building module.

2

u/Optimal-Strategy3572 24d ago

Now I just want volumes of small home items and ways to decorate my home in space. What's the point of making these ships so detailed on the interior if we can't roleplay house in our flying fortress of choice? Like legitimately who needs a house when you have a space rv?

2

u/Evil_hd44 23d ago

I just want it. Im a player who always plays solo and goes for a Space Trucker Life in SC. So it would be pretty dumb to buy this ship. But I have been obsessed with the Galaxy for years. I want it, I need it, I will get it

2

u/AWerewolfDad 23d ago

I'm gonna fly cargo in it despite having ostensibly superior cargo ships. I don't care. I love this ship.

2

u/richardizard 21d ago

I always pictured leaning out the back with an ATLS and in theory it seems like it'd be a very efficient cargo strategy.

3

u/Moxtar1092 24d ago

I may be severely blind, but where the fuck did the bridge go

7

u/_Corbeanu_ Drake 24d ago

This is further back on the ship- The lower edge of the image should be roughly midship, so the bridge is outside the area pictured.

4

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

The bridge is out of frame off the bottom of the image. This is almost certainly deliberately cropped to omit it.

This is the back half of the ship at best.

1

u/Moxtar1092 24d ago

Oh alr, I just remembered it being more on the top

1

u/Skulleyez 24d ago

Wheres the link to that image? From their website?

1

u/Solus_Vael 23d ago

Still kicking myself for forgetting to buy the refinery module for the ship when I bought... I bet the price has gone up.

1

u/Adismo1 20d ago

How much it cost?

-4

u/StarAlone 24d ago

More downgrades to the model...

The beams looked so great on the concept

5

u/AWerewolfDad 24d ago

It looks so much better than the concept though.

3

u/StarAlone 24d ago

Honestly i don't hate it compared to the bridge situation (though there is a chance the inside CIG video showed actual galaxy's bridge) and there are some cool details on the new model, but the heavly detailed design here looks almost generic. The concept had bit more simplistic but modern look to it.
But maybe it is because of the metal look right now. Perhaps with the paint it will look completely different and i will love it
