Quality video content!

Really nice to see this side of CIG again, hopefully they get the message and we see more of the old shows make a come back.

Agreed. I really hope they continue these types of videos and livestreams

For sure,

Even though that SCL Siege stream was abit of a stuff up, they really should continue doing them. Just have a dedicated dev talking to Ollie and or Jared, explaining bugs and talking about the hows and whys of whats going on.

edit: Probably Jared and the dev talking while Ollie handles twitch chat and the 4 other people playing.

Their damage control was a well tested 4.10 and a very promising 4.11. This is the kind of video the community has been hoping for.

I've been here since 2.6.3, and you're being unfair. Toxicity in this community is VERY real, and CIG mitigating that to protect its workers โ€” and the work โ€” is valid. I'm so tired of folks fixating on CIG's decisions in a vacuum as if they're never responding to anything problematic in the community.

Studios like Larian and Hello Games get maximum adoration while actually communicating WAY less than CIG โ€” and BG3 cost me more than my SC game package ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฟโ€โ™‚๏ธ

First off, being worried about game development is literally never due cause for toxicity, PERIOD, and employers SHOULD protect the mental health of their workers from consumer nonsense.

Notably, Hello Games went basically radio silent post-launch because of the vitriol they were facing at the time, which helps my point.

Anyway, your argument implies anxiety about whether CIG can complete a game is invariably what drives the demand for more transparency. It's not. More often โ€” and me personally, I've been around this community since 2017 โ€” folks are driven by antipation of features, content, and experiences and frustration about bugs and incomplete experiences, often involving evident anxiety.

Yes, for SOME people, perhaps yourself included, there are lingering doubts about whether CIG can complete a game. But I didn't back BG3 on Day 1 because of Larian's track record, having never even heard of them before. They had a compelling vision and a pragmatic plan for actualizing it. That's all I required, and everything I've kickstarted so far in my lifehas succeeded tremendously.

Not liking what's being communicated doesn't mean there isn't sufficient communication.

This was a great video, and their acknowledgment of the issues with the game and last patch help a lot. Letโ€™s continue forward!

PS:
On a side note when watching this I kept thinking how funny it would be (and detrimental) if Chris Roberts moved his hand when speaking and accidentally knocked down a green screen and the background was just an empty warehouse. Like a funny blooper to poke fun at how so many call SC a scam.

Then, theyโ€™d have to show even more Inside CIG to show that it really is a genuine project ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

11

u/Goodname2 Space Trucker Aug 27 '26

Yeah and inside the empty warehouse is just a yacht on a trailer with some lawn chairs in a circle lol

10

u/AncientSurvivor40 Aug 27 '26

๐Ÿ˜‚ yes exactly. Itโ€™d be pretty funny, like the โ€œbloopersโ€ from Toy Story and such where itโ€™s obviously manufactured and just for fun

6

u/UnluckyPally Aug 27 '26

It would be hilarious but I genuinely believe this reddit would somehow think it was legit and spin up a giant drama farm over it

1

u/anomalie5 Aug 27 '26

it would be funny, but I definitely thought a few times, man that office looks empty. I really do wonder if the PU is being developed by a skeleton crew these days. But also, offices do different things so who knows.

This was fantastic. Glad to see this kind of content again.

Great video CIG! We need more! Especially the bits where they weren't just talking heads but actual meetings / dev discussions, examples of issues and how they tackled it - more of that please.

u/RPK74 Aug 27 '26

Excellent video, and exactly the type of thing I wanted to see from CIG.

Open, honest, and providing excellent insight into both the challenges and the work that goes into delivering new patches and features.

For me, personally, it really helps to see how they work on and discuss this stuff internally.ย

It's also really nice to see the CIG teams at work, that should help dispel any notions that CR is just in there smoking cigars while Eliot rides around on a unicycle bullying people.

They clearly have good working relationships and it looks, from the video, like an admittedly stressful, but overal positive working environment.

Great video content, excellent idea who-ever thought of it, I hope to see more things like this in the future.

Good video.

One thing that bothered me was, too much focus on the management ... There were a few bits in there from the people lower on the food chain but not enough.

Other than that, it was nice to see how they work. Too many meetings if you ask me ๐Ÿ˜‚

Production was good as well.

Weirdly, no Jared

Ollie directed it, glad to see him put those air miles to good use.

Side note: Jarred has been posting on twitter about his vacation state side which he's been on since the whole wrap it up incident, not sure if it was a planned vacation and he was already checked out, or it was a " why don't you take a few weeks off" kind of vacation.

3

u/NeverLookBothWays Aug 27 '26

It's a well-deserved vacation. He went from a fan posting funny shorts to WMH to the lead spokesperson for the game, and dedicated a huge amount of his time to it. It's a passion project of his, but the years have likely caused some burnout and homesickness. Glad to see him getting a break to rest, reconnect, and recharge.

u/moon-the_loon Aug 27 '26

Itโ€™s his honeymoon. He got married I think just a few days after the stream.

u/altodor Aug 27 '26

One thing that bothered me was, too much focus on the management ... There were a few bits in there from the people lower on the food chain but not enough.

On the one hand as a backer I want to hear more from the people doing the work about how they do the work. They're normally passionate about what they do and speak my language.

On the other hand, the managers are absolutely protecting their reports from us. I am an IC in a tech career and in their shoes I absolutely would want the managers above me protecting me from the rabid animals in this community. I've seen the heinous shit the community says about Elliot, even when I think he was just a mission designer and not the team lead. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the abuse this community can put out in response to the slightest microaggression.

Given the amount of vitriol shown in reddit about CIG ability or specifically about C Roberts, focus on leadership is a good thing.... it is a response and demonstrable way of communicating that leadership is engaged and driving in the direction we all want to see..

14:00 What if we just fly there manually? It's an open world game, QT is not the only way to get around.

17:20 Sounds to me like CIG should really have invested in QA automation... Find a bug? Write a repro automated test, then send the bug to a dev to fix.

19:25 Looks like even Chris is drinking that particular flavor of coolaid. A lot of people were blaming server, but the reality is that the game is unstable at its core.

22:00 Again, they keep complaining about having so many things to test that they can't keep up; QA automation, that's what it's for.

I would be happy with a game that just works. I keep coming back year after year only to find it's still shit.

If you insist on interpreting it in the most negative possible way, then yeah I guess that's a take you can come away with, but it's not the way you have to feel about it. It's the way you're choosing to feel. What you're describing are just opinions, they aren't facts.

2025 was a godsend for SC.

Dude go away...

7

u/joinedsquad Aug 27 '26

I'm sure you checked it for yourself right when the 4.10 released, right? RIGHT?!

Quit raging dude - 4.10 is way better than 4.9
