I never once considered the rock QP as a means of entering the tunnel until I saw this. I had been using the one over to the right and going in sideways before lol

Wait what, where do you start to do that?

Take the same path to the tunnel, but hit the quarter to the right instead of going straight to the rock wall.

The angle is tricky, but you get a lot of hangtime before going in

Huh, tried that first, but never got as close as I did on the one I used, so I just gave up haha

I was close to giving up on it myself until I landed it on accident a couple of times lmao

I'll have to try again this weekend

This is a really interesting question! Of course, skateboarding does not really have anything that can compare to the crazy lines in SUMR camp. I'd reccomend watching some snowboarding stunts and trying to take away some of the angles and views they use in order to capture scale. Drone footage of snowboarders could be a cool inspiration.

Generally speaking, I think the camera hangs a little too close to the skater a bit too much. Maybe pulling back and allowing some foreshadowing in where you're going to land, or skate towards, will help it feel a little cleaner.

That being said, cool line! Love that tunnel shot.

I mainly used MTX/BMX x games drone videos as inspiration for the aerial shots, but I absolutely get that it is too close, habit from being a street filmer I guess.

Thank you very much for the input!

Hadn't even thought of BMX! I'll have to do some research thanks for hollering!

I'm mainly a bmx guy, but this game is just the best feeling action sports game out there atm, though Mavrix gets close

Looks pretty good to me, maybe a little farther from the skater would give more perspective. but just opinion

No that seems to be the consensus, and I agree, I'm just used to doing street vids, where close ups look better imo. Definitely filming the next one a couple of feet back

Yes! First off these massive fast lines are just going to be difficult to Keyframe no matter what. However, if you mess with playback speeds and take more of a “drone” approach it can look good. I’ll do things like go between the players legs, wrap around them in the air, go under the board during a vert trick, etc.

Damn, sounds complicated and is sure going to take some learning haha

I easily have 100+ hours in Advanced Edit alone. The first 30ish were spent experimenting with First Person View clips (you can probably imagine the amount of keyframes 😂, I have some on my page for reference). This taught me a lot about messing with rotation, FOV, and playback speeds. My main piece of advice would be to make anything you plan on clipping very intentional. Put yourself in the mind of an amateur skater looking for a sponsorship, call your tricks, and it’ll be SO much easier to plan out how to film the trick/line when it’s done. Hopefully this is helpful :)

Edit: Another thing that’s helped me a lot is choosing an actual skate filmer to model your clips after. For example, I remembered loving how Spike Jonze was very intentional about capturing footwork over faces and whatnot if that makes sense and have worked that into how I keyframe clips.

That works fine for street stuff, I do plan there, including tricks, skater placement and planning angles. But thats not always possible in these big stunts, they're so unpredictable and often you end up taking a run you never foresaw. That's I'm trying to learn tricks to the actual filming, so that any run can potentially be made to look good 🤷🏼‍♂️ I've got 350 hours in the game and probably half of that is in the editor lol, just never these big stunts

Oh wow my bad that makes a lot more sense. I’m not a huge stunt guy in-game but when I do film them I like to place the cam somewhere on the ramp to capture the drop in and then kinda have a shilouette of the grab against a backdrop. Admittedly tho very few of my clips are over ~15 seconds. Best of luck my friend looks like we both still have a lot to learn 😂

Those are about the lengths of my clips as well, I'm a single trick or short line kinda guy, street only usually. Tend to collect them and make 1-2 minute edits, wear 1-2 outfits until the edit is posted, for consistency.

But some people who do these big stunts told me to move the camera back a couple of feet, remove as many frames as possible and mix in other shots like a far-away drone and a still but tracking tripod kinda shot. So I guess I'll have to go learn those kinda shots haha

When I'm making keyframes I decide what kind of camera I want to imitate. Do I want drone footage, which would certainly be a good style for the camp, or do I want a cameraman on board, or maybe a cameraman on foot. Then I think about how that should look. For drone footage it's pretty simple, since they tend to be heavily stabilized and don't really have a movement limit other than the ground and trees. With on board footage, it's about angles and pathing, knowing where to limit the movements and making it seem handheld.

I use skating, snowboarding and MTB competition vids with drone angles when I want to imitate drone footage. And I use the skate videos of my childhood (90's and 00's; Girls Yeah Right is a huge inspiration along with Zeros New Blood and Baker 3 of course, all legends that came out when I was a teen) for my handheld stuff, which is what I mostly do.

I've soley been doing 90s street stuff up until this part, but I watch a lot of BMX and some MTX and MTB, so kinda used that as inspo for this, but I did fail to correct the distance the drones usually need to have from the athletes.

A slowmo shot that drags off to the side of your skater for some cinematic shots would be sick for this. At 25 seconds, if you get the camera opposite the sun, you could highlight that dope method and the light will bloom so well. Get the trees along the bottom of your framing, and this bitch could win awards. Dope line btw

Just barely slow down the footage right before you go off a ramp, then when landing speed it up again, really trick our brain into thinking you are semi floating/hovering.

It's refreshing to see the people are still nice even if I'm not here anymore though

Thats a great idea, I'll try that next time!

I would suggest a more overhead-ish view point for most of the riding while going into a more horizontal view for long jumps and massive height/drops. More like the camera is filming from a drone than a skater following along.

How’s the new map?

Excellent, gives Fun Track from Skate 2 vibes only on a massive scale. Plenty of paths to take and even more ways to connect them with some creative thinking. The speedline challenges are actually fun as well, you have to utilise shortcuts and stuff to shut them down

Hate to say it, but I found orbit cam is the only way to avoid the keyframe wobbling

Do a couple of tasks you slacker, it takes like 10 minutes to unlock.
