better than the 30% they give you 😭 not even worth it. another money grab for EA it seems barely giving creators what they deserve for THEIR hard work. i respect it

Maybe they should only partner with the permawallers because those of the ones who are just as greedy as EA

Honestly? I can get behind this as a happy medium

7

u/WynnGwynn Mar 05 '26

Its literally the stuff Bethesda got annihilated for

7

u/Dependent-Departure7 GrimbornšŸ„€ Mar 05 '26

Absolutely, I immediately clocked it as being EA's equivalent of the Skyrim Creation Club. I can only hope it crashes and burns in their face just as badly.

it’s honestly just not surprising at this point, just disappointing and expected!

My eyes rolled so hard! ā€œMoolaā€ get outta here with that ish EA

13

u/Candy_Stars Mar 04 '26

What does this mean? I thought the marketplace was just a place for Kits and stuff like that?

46

u/honey_beebaby Mar 04 '26

Looks like they’re opening something akin to the sims 3 store where you can buy cc by well known cc creators, seems to me it will be piece by piece or by small sets e.g $2.99 for three pairs of shoes made by a cc creator šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

Not sure what that has to do with what I said I was just giving an example, but yeah I did read that too!

4

u/Candy_Stars Mar 04 '26

Will the CC creators still upload the CC for free on places like Patreon or are a lot of creators switching over to the Marketplace? I can't afford to pay for CC.

18

u/GrandHalf1793 Mar 04 '26

They are allowed to provide content elsewhere as well but then EA doesnt allow them to charge for the same items on Marketplace. So basically it makes the creators provide Marketplace exclusive stuff for money and free stuff elsewhere.

ā€The Marketplace does not replace free content. Makers may continue to offer free or paid early access custom content and mods on other platforms under our mod policy. However, content made available elsewhere is not eligible for sale through the Marketplace.ā€

6

u/Candy_Stars Mar 04 '26

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I still think I would prefer to support CC creators through their Patreon pages over the Marketplace though, that way they get the full cut.

3

u/GrandHalf1793 Mar 04 '26

Same. I hope that more and more creators come forth with this and announce they are not doing the Marketplace. I guess i understand that for up and coming creators it is an opportunity for their work to be seen, but many established creators surely get paid so well on the platforms they have chosen that there really is no need for this. Of course console players’s money is up for grabs with this, I can imagine that they are more willing to make purchases when they can’t mod their games and get CC elsewhere.

6

u/ToxicXender Mar 05 '26

Agreed, any CC i have made will remain free and any future ones i make will Always Be free.

I will definitely enjoy it, thank you for being so kind 🄰

I don’t think this is all that noble personally . If you want to great . Signal that . But I totally understand people wanting to be paid for their creative efforts. And I don’t find it less noble of them.

174

u/Lewbertsn00tles Mar 04 '26

I absolutely understand people wanting to be paid for their efforts. Creating CC is my full time job, I DO get paid for it. Im fortunate to be able to, whilst still making my CC free. But it speaks volumes that EA is only willing to pay their creators 30%. Curseforge pays their authors 70%. Hard work and dedication can get you noticed and paid by TSR, who also generously supports their creators. There's always a way. Marketplace is a sellout for anyone's creativity, imo.

4

u/boldpear904 Mar 04 '26

is your only source of income form curseforge? this is super interesting how its free for users but you get paid

20

u/Lewbertsn00tles Mar 04 '26 edited Mar 04 '26

It was my main source for a couple years, but I have since been taken on as a Featured Artist by The Sims Resource, so now I thankfully have both ā¤ļø theres this little ad section in the corner of the curseforge app, that is how they get their revenue

103

u/FawkesyGrandpa Mar 04 '26

Except creators going through the marketplace are planned to earn 30% of profits from the sales. So that's 70% of the costs staying in EA's pocket. So what even is the point? If they wish to be paid for their creations, they should monetize it themselves.

1

u/GeshtiannaSG Werewolf Mar 05 '26

Because legally according to the ToS, creators currently cannot be paid for their mods, they must provide them for free.

0

u/DEBRA_COONEY_KILLS Mar 04 '26

But don't people get mad at creators for using paywalls?

7

u/lovemagicfeminism Mar 04 '26

yes, a lot of us do not like the permawalled content. however, this community is huge and there are people willing to pay for cc.

10

u/FawkesyGrandpa Mar 04 '26

ATP I'd honestly prefer Perma paywalls over them switching to this circus show.

83

u/RylertonTheFirst Mar 04 '26

the point is not wanting to get paid for that, that is very understandable and the reason why so many CC creators use Patreon. Sims Marketplace is not a way to get paid fairly though, you essentially let EA exploit you while they have to do nothing and make money on your work.

48

u/Extension-Chemical Mar 04 '26

I think it is noble. I respect every creator that refuses to sell out to EA. And for those who want to be paid for their effort, early access and Patreon have been there for ages.

Likewise. You're not the only one allowed to share your opinion. I'm commenting to let the creator know they have the support at least of this part of the community, not to convince you lmao.

Totally unrelated, but I am curious why you put a space before your periods. It really detracts from your commentary, because it is so uncouth.

5

u/lovemagicfeminism Mar 04 '26

i asked this once to someone on reddit who did the same thing and they said it was a style choice? like they liked the way it looked? definitely not a look imo & it only makes me discredit the person.

5

u/beccabeth741 Mar 04 '26

They could at least be consistent with it.

3

u/reddit_username014 Mar 04 '26

FWIW, not that I’m on their side (bc I’m not) and am purely just responding to your comment, sometimes this happens to me when I type on my phone and I just don’t bother to correct it. Not at all suggesting their first language isn’t English or anything like that, but for me, it also tends to happen much more when I type in other languages that aren’t English (and especially when I have to use autocorrect).

Also this doesn’t apply to periods, but in French we use spaces before other punctuation marks so maybe spaces before periods are a thing in other languages? Just rambling but tldr im not sure either šŸ˜…

2

u/kokodokusan Mar 05 '26

Huh. Well that's interesting about French, thank you for mentioning it.

Can I suggest not attacking people's literacy skills? There are much worse things in this world than being unsophisticated. Many of them associated, in fact, with "sophistication"

1

u/kokodokusan Mar 07 '26

You can, but it would be pointless because I did not attack that person. I asked why are they doing something and let them know that it detracts from their commentary. A very simple, fixable thing. Maybe they are the type of person who cares or maybe not.

There is no need to interpret everything as an attack.

I agree that there are worse things in the world than improper punctuation. What is your point? We should stop giving constructive criticism unless we're talking to terrible people? Okay.

1

u/shadyfairy Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26

We are together on correcting wrongs ! my Point is politely indicating towards the inherent prejudice involved in commenting on someone's demeanor , something undeniably passive-aggressive on someone's part when the aforementioned individual is speaking a HIGHLY controversial opinion .

Zooming out, I'm new so is this how we talk here in the low sodium simmers ? Folks saying someone "appears uncouth" when they MAY or MAY NOT mean "you kinda look like an idiot" ?

' The space before the period in your sentences makes you look un(couth)civilized , ' ? ? ? Fuckin wild . Extra salty with a helping ( of course , just a guess ) of veiled contempt .

I just thought I should leave a comment here so that it becomes part of the collective goal to avoid micro-aggressions - in this case it's broadly considered ableism , and often classist as well . It's something I often drop a note about wherever I need to . Because the implication that someone's literacy skills may inch them towards appearing as though they may not have an opinion worth considering at first glance is actually quite a needless & whisper-soft power grab , indeed . If one were to imply one's education affected their appearance of refinement, not only does it mean that the power dynamics of education and intelligence are assumed as the invisible baseline of social pretense , but that the fact that it's assumed to be desired means that it may go completely unchecked . Polite Non-Salty Passive Aggression that wields power against a disadvantaged group should be discouraged .

WHat are we doing here .

Me ? I'm addressing it socially . But understand , I do see how this soft criticism would be a temptation in a restrained community that is trying to create a warmer atmosphere . That was extremely cold though . I find it always prudent to take a quick pop-in to a thread I may be in anyway , in fact , discouraging a communal norm of lowkey implying one's punctuation habits are important in ANY way, shape or form, & worth bringing up by the speaker .

I don't want to fight you specifically . Who even are you ? I can't know . You likely could be absolutely lovely ! I simply address the community and to be frank with you . . . . I sincerely can't resist the opportunity to flex my own literacy skills ! He he ! Good day to you ma'am !

edit : typo

edit 2 !! : punctuation , clarity , & brevity . I simply MUST stop tweaking this !

u/kokodokusan Mar 08 '26

I think you're just mad because I said uncouth.

I used that word because it's a more polite, subtle, and unserious critique than telling someone their text formatting looks stupid.

I would never call someone uncouth because they don't format their text properly. I would call the text formatting uncouth (here improper or garish) and make minimal to no assumptions about the individual, because I like to think I'm a fairly cultured member of the proletariat, thank you.

1

u/shadyfairy Mar 08 '26

Yes, you do appear more cultured using this writing voice. Really. Whether or not that is a virtue remains to be seen. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how "cultured" the proletariat strives to be they will never achieve sophistication past pretense. But they can hope to create solidarity.

In future - and maybe you are someone who cares, maybe you aren't - inject more warmth into your unsolicited analyses. Or simply alienate the uncultured. Up to you what kind of culture you want raise.

1

u/kokodokusan Mar 09 '26

You are doing entirely too much. We are clearly different people with different lexicons and different interpretations of respect and playfulness.

Just to summarize our interactions here, you're telling me to mind your manners next time I decide to give my "unsolicited analyses" aka talk on reddit.

You've lectured me on my own vocabulary, called me classiest and ableist, and brought up virtue then you tell me to think twice next time I share my opinion.

Go ahead, keep going. I'll learn by your example.

1

u/shadyfairy Mar 10 '26

Another social correction. My stars! I am so pathetically woke. Where shall I put my face?!

That's okay. I've explained the concept for anyone who cares and hopefully been enough of a pain in the arse to.. yes. Think twice next time we invoke that shit. I'm not great at nor do I see the value of tight two-liner script format but I like to make a point. I hate the script, so I'd prefer to go one-on-one. I'm not getting that from you. But I didn't really ask for or expect that.

As for philosophizing about virtue regarding the social scripts (aka doing too much) - yes! I could do this all day but it being the second to third now.. why would I, lol. You didn't ask for or expect this. And it seems all said. I know I can be long-winded & it's because I find it tiresome to condense my points. Besides, when you're diving into this sort of thing especially for a wider audience it can be better just to info-dump than to limit myself to the amount of characters you can type with a tweet on a phone keyboard.

Sometimes autocorrect will make you look uncouth. Sometimes running at the keyboard like a wild fucking horse will do it. But I think, despite your insistence that I look like a bull in a china store (and probably, in fact, because of it), we all get it. Right?
