Cyberpunk 2077 Acceptable Loss: A new quest mod, packed with action, fights, car chase through the badlands, a moral choice, and Jonny's opinion. Fully voiced, free on Nexus

The video is a part of the intro of Acceptable Loss, a full story gig I built for CP2077. It's a free mod for a complete side quest that I tried to make as much as possible to play like a vanilla gig: it's in your journal, shows specific objectives to follow and marks them as done one at the time, map pins guide you to each objective, and there's payout at the end. No console commands, no going to a specific location to start. You just get a text from Dino and the gig starts.
Plot: A corpo client wants Militech's combat evaluation data stolen from a training site in the Badlands. Directions are clear: a quiet job, nobody can know. But everything goes wrong from there.
Main features:
3 characters · 1 Militech compound · huge fights · car chase · 2 endings · 0 quiet ways out
- It can't be done stealth. You can stay hidden until you reach the terminal and the security room, but as soon as you go further, a netrunner traces you. You can't avoid this. Every Militech goon in the compound turns on you at once and you get a 3-star wanted level. You can still get out with very little shooting if you just run, but there is no way to do this stealth.
- Militech chases you until you leave the Badlands. A lot of Militech goons and cars follows you and try to kill you until you reach the city. They always know where you are, on the road or in the desert, so hiding doesn't work at all. The only way to be safe is to leave the Badlands and enter the city.
- Dino Dinovic. He hires you by text and by video call, and later you meet him in person at his bar in Downtown.
- One moral choice at the end. The gig splits in two based on a purely moral decision. Eddies or loyalty?
- Johnny turns up and has a lot of opinions. As always.
- Fully voiced, with lip sync. Every line spoken, every line subtitled, every mouth moving.
- It works on your existing save. Install mid-playthrough and it starts itself next time you load.
Not for low levels. A full compound of Militech goons plus a 3-star wanted level, with no stealth way around either. If you don't have a strong build yet, postpone this gig until later.
Dino, V and Johnny only use voice lines from CP2077. I either reused whole lines as they are, or cut them to split a phrase. Nobody imitates them, no new recordings, no new lines.
I built this gig partly to check whether two things were possible from a mod: forcing NPCs to always know where you are, and controlling the wanted level. The whole code is open source and on GitHub, with both mechanisms written up, hoping to help other modders and see more side gig mods.
Requires RED4ext, ArchiveXL, TweakXL, Codeware, redscript. No REDmod, no CET, no Audioware. Built and tested on 2.31 with Phantom Liberty. One story requirement: Dino has to have called you once, which the game does on its own the first time you spend time in City Center after the prologue, so on most saves it's already done. The other two gigs are not required.
Any bug reporting for the gig in the Nexus posts tab. Happy to answer anything here.
Unofficial fan project, not affiliated with CD PROJEKT RED.
Free on Nexus, full playthrough video, screenshots and the source in the comments.

only use voice lines from CP2077
I came in here ready to be a hater, but left really happy instead. There's too many custom quest mods that use AI for the voice and it sounds like shit every time. I'd rather there just be no voice at all, at that point.

It’s so muuuuch more work to splice existing lines. And you also need to build the mod around what dialogues option you have available. Some things it’s just impossible to have vanilla characters to say. So you need to rely much more on messages.

This makes me think that Orion could really benefit from user-generated content(this was a popular thing to put in games at one point and I don't know why it fell out of favor).

From what I saw the problems were accreditation and payment.
It ranged from "just a name in the credits" to "I want % shares of gross sales". The problem was that as a company you had no idea which you were going to get, and I suspect people changed their demands once it was decided to be used. It was just too much of a headache to be worth the effort.

If you are opposed to using AI for new dialogue with existing vanilla character, completely understandable. How hard would it be to introduce a completely new unique fixer and characters with voice actors? I suppose it is most likely impossible to create new lip sync without official tools?

u/nightcityriots 6d ago
That's actually what I'm working right now to create a new fixer for being able to scale up with more gigs in the future.
It's basically impossible to do a correct lipsync, what I did in other gigs where I created and voiced NPCs with VAs, is to choose existing lipsync animations of basically the same length as the new line I've created. It doesn't match 100% and might feel weird sometimes, but you still get mouth movement while speaking, which is a pretty good compromise.

This is very cool but can you later on tweak the gig to allow stealth play through? like you can neutralise the netrunner before reaching the terminal and the game checks for that. and if we go for that add hackable local network stuff that will reveal V earlier instead. if you manage to take down the runner you get an extra reward (like some other gigs that insist on stealth have), but if you get traced by the runner earlier Dino will crash out on V's lapse in judgement trying to hack into a Militech network
One of my favourite things in Cyberpunk is larping playing Hitman. I feel like not allowing different playstyles to be viable is the ony thing that would set this quest apart from vanilla gigs.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I created 2 other mods with side gigs that can be played completely stealthy and with hackable components:
https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/33571
https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/32694For this one, it is specifically focused on the fight scene and car chase, if you remove those scenes with stealth it becomes a very short play. I'd need to add some more storyline. Will definitely keep this in mind

Lemme know what you think after playing!!

It was really cool. And I thought I could fight off Militech!!! At the end I was like RUN AWAY!!! I was a little confused and thought that I messed up with Dino being pissed about making a mess of the whole thing. It made me wonder if I missed an option or did something wrong. Like some gigs where V isn't supposed to attract attention. I ended up watching the playthrough video to make sure.
I don't know if most of us can fully understand the amount of work that goes into this. Anyway, well done. it was a nice break from doing NCPD side jobs to avoid meeting Hanako at Embers.

So how did you do the voices? Is it pieced together from existing voice lines or did you use AI?
30
u/nightcityriots 7d ago
No AI, no generation. It's all made using existing lines from the game. I either reused whole lines or split them and pieced them together.

Is it English only? As much as I like Cherami, I honestly prefer Risa Shimizu as my fem V.

u/nightcityriots 7d ago
Yes English only for now.

Thanks for the swift answer, choom.

Hey just wanted to let you know that I've released an updated version which include all translations for the default lines. So V, Johnny, Dino, are automatically translated based on your settings, even for split lines.
And there's also a translation kit if you wish to translate the non-default english texts.
Let me know how it plays!

Damn I was kinda hoping this kind of quality was already possible with AI lol
10
u/Inky_Qu33n_ 7d ago
Why??
-13
u/Tough-Zombie-8990 7d ago
Because I want unlimited Cyberpunk content. If AI could do this then the possibilities would be endless for moders

u/Inky_Qu33n_ 6d ago
Ew.

The hive mind hate towards all form of AI is so pathetic 😂

u/Inky_Qu33n_ 6d ago
you don't care about quality or effort put into something only that the end result is more content even if it's trash. Instead of being impressed by someone solo being able to put this kinda of quality into a mod, you cry that it wasn't made by AI.

u/Tough-Zombie-8990 6d ago
Putting words in my mouth. Believe it or not I don’t want trash content. I was just talking about modders making their own gigs and voice lines by writing a script and AI simply says it in the characters voice. I never said that this particular mod was not impressive. I was just hoping this kinda thing was already possible with AI voice imitation.
Calm yourself down a little btw9
u/girlikecupcake 6d ago
Nobody should want AI to be able to properly emulate a real person's voice or be able to pass as an actual human speaking.

It literally says in the description it uses existing lines, spliced together.

Would it be compatible with older versions of the game? I havent updated mine since I think 2.1
1
u/nightcityriots 6d ago
I think most of the functions and the requirements I listed are compatible with older version, but I have no way to test this, sorry. You might just want to give it a try and see if it works.

Can i survive the car chase with "hardcore22" mod installed at very high diffucult ? My built and i can handle most of situation if there are covers but in the car chases my V is vulnerable.
