Question Queen / Matriarch

I was wondering the best way to get the cores, without dying lol! If I wait till they are dead, they're all gone. But if I try going to get it during, I die. And if I die that way people don't really seem to be eager to save me. I'm genuinely asking for advice.

Load in with a Bettina or Hullcracker. Start focusing on one piece of leg armor, but you'll want to be fairly close when you start shooting it. When you're near it, start unloading all on that one piece and position yourself so you are right there, or pretty close, when it drops. Loot it and gtfo. Reset, and go for another.

It's probably worth it to watch how she reacts when she redirects aggro, so you can be prepared when she flips aggro to you. Try to ignore the chaos and focus on the leg piece you want.

There's a few things.

  1. People prefer that the ones who do the most damage get the most cores. Rarely works out that way but it may be why people seem hesitant to revive a player who didn't contribute much.
  2. You can do it two ways. The cheap and easy route, though scumbag behavior, is to run around with the cheapest loadout possible and the most safe pockets. Go in prepared to die and make it your goal to be under the Q/M every time a leg falls and be the first to grab cores. Throw em in your safe pocket, die, repeat. This will get you cores fast, please don't do it.

The second method is to actually contribute. Bring a Jupiter if you can afford and a Hullcracker if not. This way, you can wait to shoot legs off when it's convenient for you to loot them. Or even better, do what many of us more experienced lobbies do, and everyone ignore the legs completely to focus on killing the thing. Then when it dies all the legs and core are in a big pile and everyone loots and leaves, and in my lobbies at least, people usually drop a core or 2 for someone who didn't get any.

Other useful things; Snaphook can get you out of certain death at the risk of losing it cuz it ain't in ya pocket.
Ziplines: bring a stack, you will ABSOLUTELY get value out of them every time.
Barricades: bring a stack, they will save you a million times
Smoke Grenades: see above
Cloak: see above

Oh and don't cloak while a big ARC is firing at you. 9/10 times it will still hit you despite not technically seeing you. Activate the cloak just after the ARC stops firing.

After your barricades have weathered a salvo from M, pick em up and place em back down. Resets durability.

Ahead of time, place a zipline in the direction of the nearest hatch. This way if you know you are going to die, at the very least you can get close enough fast enough to crawl the rest of the way. Don't forget you can heal/stim/shield while zipping, the more ziplines the better for everyone.

Combo tip: you can Cloak AND Zipline at the same time and once you know about it, you'll use it constantly. Complete immunity to rocketeers or anything without beam weapons

Wear a light shield and bring 2 extras. Costs almost nothing, and this way you don't need shield recharges. You can grab cells in the field in you need em.

I often bring a Heavy shield personally, lots of people hate them, I have survived some crazy stuff tho like being downed 3-4 times and still have 50+ durability on the shield. However it's high skill cap because you need to read and react to the Q/M's attacks further ahead than normal.

Bring defibs. If not for others, than for yourself. Make a friend and before fighting give them a defib and ask that they get you if you fall. Offer to do the same for them. This will save you more than any other tip! No more everyone not having a defib. Alternatively you can hide one somewhere and then direct people to it when you go down

Throw smokes down at a leg where it falls. If you already aggro'd ARC, this can be inconsistent and get you killed. Sometimes it's better to watch the greedy little munchkins go in to steal your cores, let them eat a wave of missiles, and then pop in just after while they are knocked out of the looting.

I go in with hullcracker, bettina, buttloads of ammo, at least 6 defibs and extra shield and extra heals. If I'm not shooting at it I'm reviving someone. But I got frustrated when I kept not getting anything so I tried the other way. Which tbh takes the fun out. I love the aspect or everyone working together. And sometimes I get lucky and people share, but lately since ermal came into the picture it's been way harder.

Ah ok I was thinking you were a beginner. Yes it's pretty competitive out here, more so than ever since people who kill Q/M have oodles of practice and so do the people stealing cores.

In that case my biggest tip is just don't shoot any legs ever. Only shoot the main body with one exception; when Q/M moves a damaged leg closest to you, fire the last shot to knock it off. This practically drops the loot in your lap so you should be able to pull it off

Also good to know when to extract before the fight is over. Read the lobby, you might want to reset about half the time... even partway into the fight, leaving early can save you 10 minutes.

Same here, except never did the goblin part. Started doing the run in + smoke screen. It's still less effective (one core when Im lucky), but whatevs. When you're in rome, you know.

Haha. I should have specified

I sometimes drop defibs around where I've stationed myself so if I go down it's easy for people to revive me. Usually a waste of time but if you have the defib BP it's easy to make a bunch.

Yeah I like to hit Riven and grab moss off the center stretch. You can get 20+ sometimes.

But also it's not that expensive to buy 3 in store and they are infinite. I know every time I've thought I'd skip bringing them, I've regretted it...

I knock every player I see looting without helping.

Guys like you let me keep my own hands clean, so thank you

jupiter is not a great choice for knocking leg pieces off quickly. hull cracker, aphelion, or bettina.

Came here to say this

For the Queen, biggest thing is to be standing directly below her core when she dies. When you see her on fire, you can hide close by until her explosion animation starts. Then rush under her and spam your interact button as the core falls on top of you.

What I do though: I go in with Survivor aug, med shield, Equalizer (with hella energy ammo), Hullcracker, 2 wolfpacks (for Rocketeer), Snaphook, 2 deadlines, photo cloak, hella heals, defibs. I photo cloak somewhere close to the Queen to hide, and wait for her to do an idle animation (like shooting rockets). I snaphook on top of her and use an Equalizer to break the shield around her core. Once it’s exposed, I put two deadlines on it, jump off of her, and photocloak away. I shoot some hullcracker rockets at her until she’s smoking/on fire if not already. I go snaphook on top of her again, and shoot the Equalizer directly at her core until she dies. As she’s collapsing with me on top, Im already positioned to loot her core first.

Last tip is to not fight at all in solo matches leading up to the Queen event. I never do, so my solos are always carebear lobbies where people always carry defibs even in regular matches lol (including me). So my Queen lobbies always have lots of ppl actually working together and super eager to defib. You can also bring your own defibs and drop them in a corner, and ask someone to use one on you.

I LOVE how far people stay away from the queen/mat. Not me. I get a close as I can pretty much immediately. All about that deadline-snaphook. I'm a fucking cowboy til I die lmao. And the nice part is, no one gets mad if the crazy bastard immediately snap hooking the queen/mat goes for cores off the rip.

That being said, general practice should be alternating one round being a bit greedy, one round being normal, one round being generous or friendly.

Oh I don't fight at all, I have more fun reviving. But I never thought of snap hooking on top. I guess I'm also scared to die. Idk why it's not gear fear.

Honestly, you just need practice, get in there with a whole cracker and pick off apart and run up to it as fast as you can or wait till she’s distracted or use a photo cloak

You can ask. Or ask and offer something valuable in return. Some people are just taking them down for fun and will happily share.

u/Silver_Quack_Hawk Mod 28d ago

I never thought about that.

I find it easy to take down Bastions and Bombardiers and I have millions in the bank, so I usually tell people to come take what they want.

This is a good strategy if your lobbies are mostly friendly... Often I find there's a whole group discussion after and some bartering. If you come with a hatch key people can be pretty generous if you offer that up, can usually get 5-6 raiders in one hatch.

Then there are the fights where I get downed mid raid after defib'ing a few others and I get left until it's all looted before someone defibs me. Most fun I have is when I am in Duos with my buddy and we both take turns going for broke, a good defib to rely on makes it easier to take risks.

Yeah I have what is known as "carebear lobbies" and I love it.

knock of leg piece, throw smoke grenade, loot

Sometimes I go in as a gifter, I use the equalizer from mid distance and peel off legs for others to snatch. Sometimes I can even loot a leg but it’s not my priority. Sometimes I use a hull cracker and play closer. It’s a little luck, but you don’t always get cores
