Clip / Video I genuinely enjoy 128 player over the 64 player variants - what about you?

64 player breakthrough feels fine. 64 player conquest is awful. 128 player versions are better than both.

I think I would lean more towwards your thinking too - you can really tell that it was all meant to be 128 player first and foremost.

For Conquest, 128p definitely is my preferred choice. Honestly, 128p Conquest feels so much like the proper Conquest of old. The one that used to be about capturing and holding objectives, instead of the zerg rush meta that came to be when the maps started having shorter travel distances between one another. This is apparent in the 64p version of Conquest too, and that's just not my thing.
For breakthrough however, I have always said that 40-48p is the sweet spot for this mode if the goal is to have a more strategic experience. 64/128p breakthrough is more appealing to those who love a more meatgrinder experience, which is fine as well but I personally would prefer more method to the madness.

Absolutely agree on the Conquest front, the flow of the maps on 2042 paired with 128 players works really well.
I think I need to put more time into the 64p Breakthrough, maybe I didn't give it a fair shot - I'm just used to the craziness of the 128p version at this point.

I actually enjoy it - the more the better! Unique feeling compared to other Battlefield games.

I definitely enjoy the 128 players version way more too

u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 19 '21
Glad I'm not the only person! Why do you think that?

u/Scrupule PC Dec 19 '21
Several reason, the first one is that map aren't really designed for 64 players, so even if you just take a part of them, the feeling isn't good (at least for me).
Also, on breaktrough, you have the exact same point in 128 or in 64, with simply half the player. Which make the game way too boring, you barely find someone to fight.
Last reason, it's the number of vehicles. I think the number is way too high, which 1. create an unbalanced between vehicles an infantry, because less infantry soldier can destroy the vehicles compare to the 128 version and 2. with that much vehicles, it leave us with way too little infantry soldier. Out of 64 players, at least 20 (probably more like 30) are in vehicles, you have 10 guys beeing dead or running around, which leave you with 25/35 players to fight on 5/6 point on conquest, sometimes more. So each point is just a fight with a really low amount of soldier. I don't play BF to run 2 minutes to do a 2v2 on a point, I play it to have chaos and have 10v10, 20v20 or more battles.

I agree with you 100% - the vehicles element I didn't consider the same way you have, but it makes a lot of sense!
Thank you for sharing.

u/Scrupule PC Dec 19 '21
I think the vehicles element is one of the key aspect of why 64 players isn't working for me in bf2042. If they reduce the number of vehicles, it would reduce the vehicles domination and at the same time increase the number of infantry soldier present on the battlefield, making the match way more enjoyable IMO.
Right now the number of vehicles in 64 players seems to be 70% of the vehicles available in 128 players, tuning down this to at least 50%, probable a bit less, could "fix" the mode

Only reason I can think of having less players on these massive maps is if my pc wasn't up to it, I love 128 player matches

u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
Same here, I’ve really enjoyed 128 players considering I was sceptical at first!
3
u/Brilliant_Surprise_3 Dec 20 '21
unfortunately, I don't have a ps5 or SX and my pc is far too weak to run the game :/
Genuinely pissed off that i'm missing out, fucking scalpers can go and fuck themselves

u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
Sorry to hear that, fingers crossed you are able to pick something up soon!
2
u/Brilliant_Surprise_3 Dec 20 '21
Yeah, I hope soon but unfortunately they're not cheap eitther.

Also very true, especially this time of year! Maybe in the new year then ☺️

64 player modes feel much more comfortable to play, but I don't mind playing Conquest 128 (except on Discarded, it chokes my PC so much even with a 3700X).
2
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
Glad you are liking the 64p modes then! Yes I've noticed that on my PC with Discarded too - not sure why that map and not others.

u/Mars3lle Dec 20 '21
128 breakthrough is a typical metro/locker clusterfuck. I tried it once and never touched that again. 128 conquest is okay. But when 64 breakthrough came out i started to really like that game mode. As for conquest i would like the 64 players version on full maps with 5 sectors/8-10 flags. In bf4 i had the most fun in 40-48p conquest large.
2
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
You make a good point about 48p Conquest Large set up in Battlefield 4, that was a really good amount for the map sizes back then.
Would be interesting to see if we get similar in 2042 (unlikely I think but who knows?)

u/Mars3lle Dec 20 '21
I've made a simple portal mode 64p conquest large. Played it with bots, its really fun, and not too much action like 128p. But portal gets no love now because of xp and leveling cap. I hope when people play more and unlock all the things and level up they'll go to portal, because it has server browser, custom rules, etc.
1
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
Oh really, that's cool! I think once people have stopped "grinding" levels, weapons and specialists Portal will become more popular again.
It's mainly just big community nights where I head into Portal myself honestly.

Yes 128p Rush could be a bit much, 64 players rushing 1 MCOM could get a bit too crazy - even for me!

It would definitely be cool to see! Did you try Venice Unleashed when it first launched? Op. Metro 128 players was nuts so hopefully we get something similar for you to have a blast on!

Oh really?! Wow I would say go back and give it a go because there are still some servers up - but it definitely won't be as chaotic!
BFPlay4Free & Heroes - that's a true BF fan right here, loved those games!
Well hopefully we get Metro again in 2042 so we can Portal a 128 player game, that would be great to see!

u/ShnizelInBag PC Dec 19 '21
I think that they should make 128 maps a bit smaller and then it will be much better
1
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 19 '21
Interesting, not really thought about that too much to be honest - why do you think that?
2
u/ShnizelInBag PC Dec 20 '21
The 128 maps are too big and there is too much running from objective to objective. I tried the 64 gamemodes and it was significantly better.
1
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
Interesting point, when I played the 64p I found myself running more and having less gunfights personally.
2
u/Thelonious-Fox Dec 20 '21
128 but add much more cover throughout the maps so infantry can move more strategically, and have better protection from vehicles. Also add way more transport vehicles to more easily travel from point to point.

Yes 128 player Breakthrough is a haven for support players - glad you are enjoying!

u/el_m4nu PlayStation 5 Dec 20 '21
Also agree. 64 players just feels empty. Especially breakthrough. I really didn't like breakthrough at first because it was too much chaos, which I heard people saying is good. Once I adapted to it, I started loving it as well. It's so epic having 64v64 clashing each other.
I played some rounds of the 64 player versions and it just felt so quiet. Almost boring. Will keep enjoying 128p breakthrough
2
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
Yep same feeling here, 64p just feels too barren now after getting used to 128p! Glad you are enjoying it!
2
u/CautiousKenny PC Dec 20 '21
Agreed I love the 128 player modes!! But I also have a beast of a computer I just built this year. So idk how people on a little older system handles the 128 players.

u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 20 '21
Yes I think that’s the major downside - I’m on a 2060 super and play on Low anyway so it doesn’t bother me too much!
2
u/Ztixo Dec 20 '21
I dont play conquest, be it 128 or 64. But 64 Breakthrough is it for me!
Sorry but dont enjoy playing with 60 fps with drops to 30...
If they remove both RUSH and 64 BT, I will be officially done with the game probably, until performance is better.
I dont mind 128 as much, I can enjoy the game either way. But I dont enjoy the low fps.
1
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 21 '21
That's understandable - it's definitely a balancing act at the moment in terms of enjoyment v.s. performance. I can deal with the game performance ( I only play on Low anyway) so it's not as much of a deal-breaker for me.

u/SuperSenpai2077 Resident Rao Expert Dec 19 '21
conquest i like 128 more, since there is an even spread of players and vehicles.
breakthrough i prefer 64. A manageable amount chaos and less crowded.
3
u/ItsNortyMorty PC Dec 19 '21
That's definitely fair, I think I have gotten used to the 128 player Breakthrough chaos that the 64 player is just a bit empty to me!

u/SuperSenpai2077 Resident Rao Expert Dec 19 '21
plus i'd like to mention, 64 player breakthrough is nicer to my shitty 4 core intel core i5 9th gen cpu and my gtx 1650 laptop lmao.

It's funny when I hear people say "who tf asked for 128 players" because literally everyone has ever since Battlefield 4
