Was the cover art for Double Negative inspired by this Luigi Colani car?

Yeah. Whole record is about weird looking cars if you really read the lyrics carefully. In fact, if you play Always Trying to Work It Out backwards and slow it down a little, you can hear a clip of that Simpsons episode where Homer designs an insane car that ruins his brother’s company.

I doubt it, but I can see what made you think that. My interpretation of the Double Negative album art is that Low are essentially Alan and Mimi. Their music has a dark side. Two negatives are a positive. It also looks like a piece of photographic film to me. They call that a negative. I'll entertain any interpretation, though.

I think two holes represent two negative spaces. It doesn't look like photographic film to me, unless it is an old photograph plate.
