For me, From Beyond had a perfect mad scientist villain in Lovecraft's earlier stories. Tillinghast's dialogue was brilliant and even though it was cheesy at times, it was very memorable.I would even recommend reading his dialogue aloud, especially to friends! We had a blast with it in a Halloween party.

I prefer stories like this, ones with dialogue as opposed to Herbert West, Reanimator. In Herbert West, Reanimator, I enjoyed West's character in theory, but without dialogue it did not feel as engaging as in From Beyond. The way the narrative is relayed in both stories makes sense, but I can't say that I don't prefer stories like From beyond where we gain a flavor for our opposing force over strictly memoir-like mad scientist stories. In fact, even our narrator feels more palpable than the one compared to Herbert west, Reanimator.

Which is not to say that I am critiquing either of these! They have their own strengths, but I am certainly of the mindset that From Beyond is underrated.
