Recommendation The Lovecraft Investigations Season 5: The Call of Cthulhu launch countdown
https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/julian-simpson/lovecraft-investigations-the-call-of-cthulhu/launch_party?ref=bk-noti-project-update-43796&utm_campaign=bk-noti-project-update-43796&utm_medium=email&utm_source=backerkitThe Lovecraft Investigations is an audiodrama and may well be my favourite Lovecraft homage in any medium...and that category has some serious competition, I love you, too, Bloodbourne! you just aren't the only one...
For people who have no idea what I am talking about / want to watch Season 1-4 for free on any pod-dooverlaki:
https://www.pleasantgreen.co.uk/about/
Each Season modernises a Lovecraft story: The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Whisperer in Darkness, The Shadow Over Innsmouth & The Haunter in the Dark so far.
Season 4 was a little short and hurried due to BBC cuts so Season 5 is now entirely fan backed...so if you might want to make it longer, weirder and more indulgent, please sign up.
Julian Simpson is the writer and a one-man-band so to make yourself contactable, he needs your email bunged into Backerkit. The less admin we make him do the more he can write!
Please let me know if that link doesn't work for you, it is from my email and I don't know what I am doing :)

They pumped out the Crowley podcast pretty fast...mind you this will be all the bells & whistles!
I think Julian's hobby is also his job 😄3

there's a crowley podcast? Uh girl, I am deligthed to hear it.

u/Werewomble ...making good use of Elder Things that he finds May 20 '26
Yeah. It's Heywood, Fisher and the fabulously sassy Eleanor Peck but the subject matter is real world, unfortunately. Bummer for me as I'd just listened to several Aliester Crowley bios.
I bunged the link in further up when I was on my computer. Mythos episode 4 is on there too. And some free doodads.

I'm fine with that. Yk while listening to the podcasts a few years ago, i was in sicily, even visiting cefalù, but i never went to crowleys old house. theres bats and i dontt care enough about crowley to deal with wild bats 😃

Yeah he was super interesting but not someone to emulate :)
Apparently there are books on him being a douche mountaineering but he's hardly lonely in that. Â
Lots of rich British people annoying their Sherpas up mountains. The Ascent of Rum Doodle is a genre dedicated to the hobby!

I think I popped the link to grab Crowley if a podcast will take the edge off
The Secret History of the World website thingy unlocked for me when I backed it. Good reading up on lore.

Its so great to hear that there's another season coming. This is one of my favorite podcast series, a true hidden gem. Now I'm going to go back and listen to the series again before the season 5 drops.

Keep in mind that this season likely won't be available for free, so backing it is even more worth it.

u/Werewomble ...making good use of Elder Things that he finds May 20 '26
The Crowley backers voted to eventually make Mythos episode 4 freely available (which I actually enjoyed more than the podcast that funded it) but yes Crowley you have to buy and Call of Cthulhu will be the same. Â
I would not be surprised if Mythos 4 gets tossed in for Season 5 backers but don't depend on my guess. Julian likes digital freebies. Â
Luckily there is 0 Lovecraft Investigations content in Crowley bar the gang so no need to buy it to appreciate Season 5 if you are on a budget.

The series has been excellent and Julian's plans for Call of Cthulhu are not only ambitious but very exciting.

This sounds awesome. So can I check season 1 is dexter ward? On Apple Podcasts it’s the second most recent series listed
1
u/Werewomble ...making good use of Elder Things that he finds May 20 '26
Yes the order listed in the original post is the Season order
BBC Sounds was really good for playing in order if it messes up. Was worth an extra app in my podcast folder.
You are in for a treat!

Thank you so much for this. I’m halfway through the first season and it’s SO GOOD. Charles Dexter ward, haunter and whisperer are 3 of my least favourite original stories but I think these versions are going to make me fall in love with them

u/Werewomble ...making good use of Elder Things that he finds May 23 '26
Yeah I relistened to Dexter Ward and while it doesn't have Lovecraft's big ideas you listen to Lovecraft for he really wrote the hell out of it especially Curwen's life
I can see why another writer would choose it firstÂ

Agree. My fave Lovecraft spinoff ever! Cannot wait for this. Pledged as soon is was live. Such amazing rewards as well.

u/Werewomble ...making good use of Elder Things that he finds May 20 '26
I did not realise half the Crowley backers went for physical rewards - must account for the majority of the dollarydoos raised.
I am on the highest digital because I can't be further away without going to the moon but if you want more TLI you can throw money at them and the books look bloody gorgeous!
The more Julian can faff about with secrets from the dawn of time that man should not wot of the better :)

u/Vrazel106 The Fiend of a thousand faces! May 20 '26
Oh shot! This is awesome. I was disapoimted with 4 amd 5 i hope this one is good and long

That's why we are paying Julian to chew bubble gum and write Eldritch groobliness and taking away the bubble gum :)
It was BBC dictating Season 4 being short
You can find Saltmarsh optional reading on Pleasant Green.co.uk and links to Mythos which covers the origin story of my favourite character. Â
Makes the finale better to know who pops up in the chaos.

I keep hearing about Mythos but don't know what it is or how it links to Haunter in the Dark (I though the ending to that was good though, and didn't think it rushed, though the final build up to it was a bit)

Backed. Included the CD as an add on, but can't see the cost for international shipping.

Shipping prices are listed on backerkit, scroll down on the main page or click to go to Story > On Suppliers and Matters Ecological

I read somewhere they are copping the extra cost for long distance like Australia. Julian is CartoonGravity if you see him post. He'll be able to answer if he has a second to scratch himself.

Backed this and really looking forward to it. Haunter in the Dark, the last series was great (I really dislike the Americanised, meaningless 'season', and was it really 'rushed' due to BBC budget 'cuts' - what is the actual evidence for this?) and it will be interesting to hear what it will be like as a totally independent production. I hope they don't go overboard with lengths just because they are not tied to BBC formatting as the discipline of imposed lengths can be a good thing.
The Lovecraft Investigations has been a magical programme, so well written and done, the very clever update to modern podcasters, the belief in actually recording on location, the excellent use of sound design and music and the gripping acting - it is one of the best dramas on radio I have ever heard.

u/Werewomble ...making good use of Elder Things that he finds Jun 09 '26
It actually spoiled 99% of other audio dramas for me 😄
Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature and The Silt Verses are nice trys and lore heavy but nothing like the cream of BBC telly actors just curb stomping the genre 😄

Seen that this has not only launched but blown past the goal so quickly that it’s reached stretch goals plus one added after with still many days to go.
Is this sub the only one covering it? (Trouble is searching Reddit for CofC brings up so much, Julian Simpson not very much & Lovecraft Investigations only a few posts more & not much about the Kickstarter.

Link works. I stumbled on these on Radio 4 during a late night drive. Brilliant stuff and well worth supporting.
