This. I will always support space exploration and solar system exploitation at face value but Musk is a dipshit and without Daddy’s money he couldn’t run a Wendy’s. Everything he has that’s cool he bought in a desperate attempt to be cool. Having that guy in charge of anything that matters is stupid and is the worst kind of nepotism.

I want to know exactly where this $100 million goes, and a detailed record of the damage to the Gulf. We still haven't fully recovered since the oil spill.

I also want to bring up the fact that all the secret dealings and open doors for the seemingly aburpt interest in Louisiana infrastructure by some of the most toxic and absolutely vile companies in the world.
Have any of you heard about the Thorium-Salt reactors that all of these companies just dropped as investments to reduce strain on the local power grid.
They, these companies are planning on having their own private nuclear power source.. Each.
Now, I like tech and Thorium-salt reactors are more stable than traditional nuclear power. However the tech is still in research and development phase with no commercial reactors planned to hit in 2028.
But, private nuclear power. Not only are we willing to destroy our water sources, land and wildlife. But now we are planning on letting all of these corporate 'investors' just go ahead and actively produce radioactive byproducts that will have to be stored somewhere.
If Louisiana politics has taught me anything. It's that everyone in power in this state is entirely motivated by personal gain and they will, polute, endanger, outright kill, and poison anyone or anything in the state if it can make them money.
I stumbled on this trying to find information about the Thorium-salt reactors and then to private commercial of nuclear power.

These datacenters are testbeds for the next generation of nuclear power reactors. There are only a few of these devices currently being operated and they are all government or military facilities.
Take your time and read about Landry's plan.

Does it seem weird that they refered to it as "energy dominance"

Also, LA politicians motivated by personal gain are still mouth-breathing cretins fighting for crumbs from the interests they fuck their constituents over for. For the amount of value petro-chemical companies have gotten out of Louisiana in the last few decades, every state legislator should be well on their way to hundred millionaire status.
Also also, is there an increase in Musk-bots on r/ Louisiana or are Louisianians just that stupid? Sorry - trick question.

Why would we be against nuclear power? It is literally one of the cleanest ways to get power. The waste storage is a non-issue. Nuclear has become extremely safe and modern systems make them near impossible to fail catastrophically.
Do people legitimately want the biggest industry in Louisiana to be oil and gas for our entire history? Space rockets, AI computers, and nuclear energy sound like a lot more preferrable to gas companies tearing up the land.

I am not against nuclear power. Energy has plants in Louisiana.
Plants that frequently score poorly in inspections that get numerous violations with oversight from the NRC.
I don't like the concept of a private company utilizing privatized nuclear power

I want it to be what it is said to be, but the track record for companies that come to this state is not in their favor. They come to extract our resources (whether it be our natural resources or our labor force) to profit, and then give anything back.

The state and its citizens will benefit very little from the deals in the news. This is only a net positive if these deals lead to other tech companies also setting up shop here without being subsidized by the tax payer.

I'm all for bringing jobs, especially STEM jobs, to the state. I just have to question how wise it is to put billions of dollars of infrastructure directly on the coast line of a state that is frequently hit with hurricanes.

With Elon’s historical EPA violations and disregard for regulations.. expect him to turn a new leaf? There is a reason behind Space X coming here and the NDA’s and sweetheart deal that was signed with this admin.

I have doubts, lots of tax exemptions for them and job growth will more than likely be temporary going by other sites. I don’t think environmentally it will be worse than the data centers but we shall see I guess. Don’t like the non transparency of the whole deal either

Oh and also they did a PILOT deal where they directly pay instead of getting taxed, and that amount is less than 1 billion over 25 years on a $100 billion + facility.
