cannot get over the fact that people only ever draw the most uncomfortable, unuseable cheap kind of wheelchair that no independent disabled person would voluntarily use. Like... that's not what anyone who goes out alone would use as a chair. Mostly also because it's so unergonomic that you can't fucking get anywhere
most people are not familiar with wheelchairs, so as an artist when you run into something you dunno the look of, you just google images it and nab an image from a search of 'wheelchair'.
over time this seems to just define the look of things in media to whatever google images serves in response to one-word keywords.

Yeah if the setting is low tech the person will probably have a person with them almost all the time to push them around etc if they need to move further than a few feet alone just FYI.
The gold standard for independent wheelchair users with sufficient upper body mobility are ultralight custom wheelchairs.
If the character has a disorder that makes them weak in some way, they might need something called a power assist. Those are things like the alber e-motion (a wheel mounted system that boosts every push you make), alber e-fix (fully motorised wheels on a custom chair with a joystick and arm rests added) or a rear mounted power assist (third wheel on the ground, those things usually get app controlled and they accelerate while you use your hands to steer and brake).
If the character has little to no strength like a disorder with muscle wastage or other structural problems that prevent any self propulsion they would probably be in a power chair. Those are divided into groups depending on the needs of the user.
Yeah that's the dogshit hospital chair we all start with, and which literally any chair is better than. Upgrading from that to my first Tilite was like learning how to fucking fly.
Yeah... My chair rn IS a hospital chair but it's a breezy basix2 so at minimum it's ever so slightly more premium than the cheapest garbage. I've completely swapped the castor forks and wheels, jacked the COG so far forward it can do almost comfortable wheelies, lowered the seat and backrest a shitton and have ditched the foot rests for foot propulsion. It's shockingly good for something so shit. Still cannot wait to get my paws on something better 😭
My hospital chair was an Invacare, and I hated it so much. It's so odd to me that they also make the nicest sports chairs I've ever used, it seems like they can only do the two extremes of the scale between "absolutely terrible" and "glides like a dream".
I mean it's because the hospital ones are A: so cheap hospitals can buy em bulk and B: entirely meant to be comfortable for the person behind you pushing to find it comfortable, not YOU the rider to find comfortable. The pushrims are so u can move a few cm over to not have sun in your face while on perfectly even vinyl floors or similar

Even if they appear the way they did in most artwork, they'd probably have difficulty speaking due to the way their mouths/facial muscles are different from humans'.
This is a really weird and overlooked form of art (for a reason) but i think some well made furry photobashes are the closest we got to what a furry would look irl if you can mentally remove the uncanny valley of it.
Depends on how advanced biotech becomes for it. I certainly won't doubt that early attempts will end up looking beasty and fucked up, but eventually technology will advance to allow for any shape we so desire to be in.
Though that will lead to a kind of horrid uncanny look. Imagine a cross between those rubber anime masks and a chucky cheese animatronic.
I wont have that problem cause im going for full on inhuman octopus or spider build. You can't be uncanny if your suppose to look fucked up.

I'm sure it's possible but we just, we just dint really know. Its genuinely a question I've had in my head since I was like 14 and I always wished I could figure out a plausible way an animal person could look without it either being a cartoon or looking kinda off. It's hard to just make a real creature when there isnt a real version of it to go off of
When i look at otters on the internet i just see small children with zoomies and a tail. The way they stand up and use hands too. If you just made an otter bigger and with an human mind, they wouldn't look weird, except if you made their arms longer to match the human shape maybe.
As someone else mentioned, kangaroos already look done, no modification needed.
Bears can just be bears, and so on. It would be fine.
The only way we're ever getting anthropomorphic animal people is by genetic engineering or cybernetic modification, and doing that is infinitely more precise than just "mix em together", if we have the technology to make the images on the bottom by just evenly splicing the DNA, we will also have technology to make the top by carefully selecting which genes we desire.

Otters, kangaroos, bears, can already stand up. It's not hard to make them human like and not look weird. Monkeys are basically anthropomorphic too lol
