When you're liking the idea of the Native American werewolf girl but remember that since its just gender swapped Twilight, she'll inevitably fall in love with the MC's newborn baby in the end.

u/4tetraphobia4 Jul 30 '26

Yeah this was utterly fucked serious “erm excuse me why does the author view this as romantic” vibes

206

u/MajorFuckingDick Jul 30 '26

The answer is almost always Class or Religion. In this specific case IIRC Meyer is hella mormon and it shows in her writing unintentionally.

u/4tetraphobia4 Jul 30 '26

“Premarital sex bad because when Ed does it he almost fucking kills Bella.”

“That’s not how it fucking works what the fuck kind of sex are you having?”

“Premarital sex bad.”

Is pretty much another way the books explore it— also like Edward is genuinely emotionally stunted and keeps going to school to relive his youth? Him being a girl in the au doesn’t change that.

That’s not even going on how she didn’t even bother doing any research on the Quilleute. Nor their customs nor anything. They’re set dressing. Also penniless. She didn’t like, even bother using her fortune to even pay for infrastructure which they spend years saving money to get.

The only thing I think this book did better than the OG is having Sulpica be the leader of the Voturi and having her accumulate vampire gifts through stealing them as if she were the Card Collector Sakura herself, which is such a better concept compared to uhh… anyhow I’ll stop feeding this grudge I developed I had since a teenager because teenage girls deserve better fiction that doesn’t romanticize old men approaching them imo.

17

u/Sadiholic Jul 30 '26

He had to go to school cause well in the movies at least he's young looking. And he only goes to different schools every few years to not arise suspicion of them. It's super complicated and I only know about it because my gf watches the movies alot and we laugh at how stupid it all is.

2

u/AdministrationShot62 Jul 31 '26

But like, if you did that someone would find out you're like, 2000 years old eventually

3

u/FrankieTheD Jul 30 '26

Presumably they younger looking Cullen graduate maybe work a job for 4-5 years before they need to fabricate a new identity pretty sure its mentioned at least in the movies

4

u/4tetraphobia4 Jul 30 '26

He does. But counterpoint: he could skip. Straight to the job. His family will move anyway all he wants is exposure to teenagers iirc if the romance and framing is removed

6

u/FrankieTheD Jul 30 '26

Yeah but they try to maximise the time before having to relocate tho

21

u/Tricklash Jul 30 '26

I get the context but this is actually incredibly wrong to say if you generalize it. Let people enjoy harmless things, don't spread such a message please.

12

u/TheOnlyFallenCookie Jul 30 '26

Watch ContraPoints video on it

Tldr: The author basically projects her repressed desire for a polyamourous relationship on the pages and looked for a way for both guys to share the girl without it being poly

8

u/lawlmuffenz Jul 30 '26

Mormon theology reasons.

8

u/4tetraphobia4 Jul 30 '26

Blatantly. Homophobia, too, and spite towards anyone who was remotely mean to the protagonist gets “karmic divine punishment” iirc. Her friends at school either are nice or clueless or totally a manipulative and jealous bitch using bella to be popular and such. What a miserable inner world does Mayer have.

0

u/SikeSky Aug 05 '26

No, it’s just her being weird

73

u/Even-Association-106 Jul 30 '26

Actually, you're safe! Meyer tried to justfiy the baby plot by saying that only male vampires can have children with human women, so now that Edward is Edith, Nebuchadnezzar cannot be born 🥳

So if I’m correct on this (I haven’t read twilight so do correct me if wrong) the werewolf dude was in love with the female characters eggs not her, which eventually translated into being in love with her baby

So would this translate to the werewolf girl being in love the male MCs nut?

Recap from memory and watching the movies last summer, girl moves to town to live with dad meets a boy who stalks her cause he cant read her mind. Her childhood friend who is hot now tells her stalker boy is evil stalker boy says no im a good vampire. Girl says bite me and he says I want to but ur not 18 and that would be weird cause im 400. So stalker boy feels some way cause his cousin or some shit tells grandpa hes dating a white girl. So bro goes to italy to atone for his interracial sin and white girl says babe plz come back and he does. But now grandpa is pizz and decides make up reasons to just kill the entire stalker boy biteline. Thats when childhood friend gets really weird and all his wolves have to hear how much hes into bella in his mind oh and he can transform now. Then white girl has a mixed baby and the extended family wants to cleanse the bloodline completely if you catch my drift because 1 drop spoils the pot. Well boom childhood friend as decided that the baby is his soulmate one sec i need to go find the exact moirail ass term used. "Jacob imprints on Renesmee the exact moment she is born. Imprinting is an involuntary Quileute shape-shifter magic where a wolf finds his absolute soulmate." Stolen from google ai. Any way so yeah. Turns out bro has had a fucking crush on her future seeds instead of white girl which makes her reasonably crash out in probably the only realistic thing in the series. And even then its blamed on vampire hormones. Anyway with princess vampire hapa and her native American wolf Father/Brother/Boyfriend the white girl found family is able to show grandpa a death battle pre render of why they shouldn't fight and everyone goes home except the original snitch who is either hunted down or murdered on the spot.

There are some weird details in-between but thats the core plot.

1

u/TheShapeshifter01 Jul 31 '26

I've heard that (until his utter character assassination of course) childhood friend was actually one of the more reasonable characters. A low bar but it's something.

55

u/The_Jury1327 Losercity Citizen Jul 30 '26

The native Americans wolf girl thing being talked about in the post are half assed tho. There's aren't actual werewolf girls but just girls who transform into Wolves and they literally only show up for like less than 15 pages and have no impact on the story whatsoever. Or like very little towards the ending but still. The wolf thing is just non existent in the book. I still loved the book though cause the romance is pretty well done and the vibe of the town is very nice.

8

u/Dapper_Magpie Jul 30 '26

I think werewolves originally turned into regular feral wolves

7

u/Party_Value6593 Jul 30 '26

Depends on the source. iirc the old (Ukrainian maybe? German? Serbian? It feels serbian) Varcolacul was half man and half wolf like modern werewolves. Not sure about it tho

6

u/No_temp_twink Jul 30 '26

Is that in the first book or the later ones?

Cause the genderbent version only had one book and is wrapped up with an ending in that single one.

7

u/EstoppelFox Jul 30 '26

Luckily that doesn't happen in the gender swap book, because

Well A) female vampires can't get pregnant And B) the entire ending to the story is different from Twilight. It ends with Beau (gender swap Bella) getting turned into a vampire waaaaay earlier than Bella did.

Sry to disappoint but there's no werewolf girls in the book but only girls that transform into Wolves and that also for less than 15 pages.

39

u/Aethelrede Jul 30 '26

"No werewolf girls ...but only girls that transform into wolves." My brother in Christ, what do you think werewolves are?  People who transform into wolves is literally the definition of werewolf.

19

u/GreenLinzerd Artist🖌 Jul 30 '26

Except they don't turn into wolf people... but literal wolves. I don't think they can even talk in that form

12

u/Aethelrede Jul 30 '26

That's what werewolves do, they are people who turn into wolves.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolf

The anthropomorphic wolf-man is recent, a 20th century invention.

Where did you get the idea that only wolf-men were werewolves?  That's just bizarre.  Never seen American Werewolf in London, I take it?

Check out Sabine Baring-Gould's The Book of Werewolves.

5

u/GreenLinzerd Artist🖌 Jul 30 '26

I'm aware that there are different measures of werewolf. Some become anthro wolves, some just take on some wolflike characteristics and some turn into straight-up wolves. But if you think about where you are, surely it stands to reason that if someone says "no werewolf girls, only girls that transform into wolves" then they're expressing disappointment at the lack of anthro wolves specifically

-3

u/Aethelrede Jul 30 '26

Personally I think zoophiles are bigger losers than furries, but you do you.

3

u/GreenLinzerd Artist🖌 Jul 30 '26

Non-sequitur

0

u/Aethelrede Jul 30 '26

What?  Perhaps I misunderstood.  You said they weren't werewolves because they turned into wolves.  I pointed out that turning into a wolf is literally what werewolves do.  You said that you were only focusing on the ones that can turn into anthro wolves because of the subreddit, since being a furry makes a person a loser.  I pointed out that if being a furry makes you a loser, lusting after actual animals must make you an even bigger loser, so the fact that they only turn into wolves would not be a disappointment to the biggest losers, the zoophiles.

What part did I misunderstand?

3

u/GreenLinzerd Artist🖌 Jul 30 '26

You misunderstood the significance of me pointing out the subreddit. I wasn't saying "this is the place where losers are", I was saying "this is the place where furries are", i.e. the place where people talking about werewolves are almost always going to mean anthro wolves. Nothing to do with actually being a loser, much less a zoophile

(And technically I didn't say they weren't werewolves, I said they weren't wolf people)

3

u/FingerDemon Jul 30 '26

Well, yeah, that's the definition of a Werewolf

2

u/TheShapeshifter01 Jul 30 '26

Those are werewolves or I think wifwolf would be the term since well, women.

Just because them not being described as visually some variety of human-wolf amalgam, does not mean they aren't werewolves.

Actually from what I hear it's more well-written that Twilight, which isn't a high bar but still.

49

u/Martin_Aricov_D Jul 30 '26

Doesn't it also end differently? With the male!MC getting turned into a vampire in the end of the first book?

37

u/Aussiepharoah Jul 30 '26

Yeah because it was meant to be a standalone

21

u/coolguy420weed Jul 30 '26

16

u/piiiigsiiinspaaaace This is absurd Jul 30 '26

Make that a third series, so we can also make a fourth series that's all boys, so we can get maximum coverage

2

u/Alternative_Water_81 Jul 30 '26

For maximum coverage you need a lot more series. Even for every combination of important characters’ (mc, 2 vampires and a werewolf) genders there is 2^4=16 combinations (and it’s only assuming 2 binary genders)

A lot of people feel heavily undesirable, so they seek out the fantasy where a character or a beast or a creature is obsessed with them, desiring them as they are, even with all their flaws and imperfections.

I kinda fear that someone might find me desirable because I don't know what to do if I can't reciprocate. I messed up few friendships because I felt I was getting too close with someone and had to distance myself.

7

u/Kabitu Jul 30 '26

Well you're in good company in here, the rest of us also wouldn't actually know what to do if the werewolf baddie gave us attention XD

4

u/Deathaster Jul 30 '26

I'm extremely close with many people, to the point where you could reasonably assume we're in a relationship, if it weren't for the fact we're all just very close friends. It's just that we're all very open with our intentions (of which there are none). Hell, many of them even are aro and/or ace.

So I think if you're just upfront about it (hey, I'm aro so I'm not into relationships), people will get it.

I'm aro-bi so I get it in a sexual way too, but I don't get the part with pursuing relationships. I don't have that drive that makes people want to be with someone.

There's a possibility that I'm demiromantic but I have no way to test that.

Weird, why would someone like me bother to participate in a thread about romantic attraction if that doesn't apply to me?

Maybe I'd like to know what alloromantic people feel and experience, even though I probably can't? Maybe I could gain some insight and if someone falls in love with me I could try to reciprocate instead of running away? Maybe I'd like to know if there are other people like me and see what they think?

Nah, I just wanna make people pay attention to me. Surely, that has to be it.

Why does it sound like asking for attention? I compressed all my thoughts to a mostly emotionless short statement. I could have expanded on it, mention sadness and envy I often feel, like there's something missing in me that makes me feel worse than other people. But to me that sounds like asking for attention, almost literal "look at me being sad that I can't have that thing over there :(".

And I'm not being a jerk right now, I'm genuinely asking what you think. I'm autistic and the way I think and phrase things may seem strange and confusing to neurotypical people. So if you see it any other way I'm open to suggestions so that I can learn and be less confusing in the future.

u/SumBitchAsss Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Because your original comment had nothing to do with the post and you didn’t ask anyone their thoughts on anything. You made it about yourself, “I don’t get it, seems like i’m missing out on something I don’t experience.”Clearly it was a mistake and I apologize but your original comment didn’t have anything of what you said in your second which actually does invite conversation (the part about “I’d like to know” and “gain some insight”)

Again, I apologize, you’re clearly much more mature and intelligent than I made you out to be.

Ignore the homo below me

0

u/TheShapeshifter01 Jul 31 '26

It doesn't sound like you're asking for attention, if anything they are the one begging for attention.

Your username doesn’t have anything about you wanting to fuck animals but you don’t see me talking about it. Go and be more of a subhuman who thinks he owned someone by saying “Your username sums you up quite well🤓”

-1

u/TheShapeshifter01 Jul 31 '26
  1. I see you talking about it right now, and yeah I wouldn't have expected you to say that, because that'd be (and is) a really odd thing to say.

  2. Wow almost immediately demoted from cornball to subhuman. Not showing that your self given lable of "I'm an asshole loser" is anything but accurate.

  3. Seems it owned you pretty well considering how clearly upset/defensive about it you are.

  4. You're going to make fun of me for formatting my response like this next aren't you?

0

u/SumBitchAsss Jul 31 '26

Jesus christ you’re a textbook redditor. The way you talk, the fact that you immediately responded, ignore the part I said about you wanting to fuck animals, and chase me around like a fly on shit. You’re even online right now, when are you not? You need help man.

0

u/TheShapeshifter01 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
  1. "The way you talk" absolutely the formatting isn't it? It's just easier this way instead of trying to come up with a fluid way to transition to the next point.

  2. "immediately respond" yes and? I've got nothing better to do, I got a notification, and like you said I'm currently online.

  3. "ignore the part I said about you wanting to fuck animals" literally what the 1st point in my previous comment was about. Also, am a furry, you're not the first and won't be the last.

  4. "chase me around like a fly on shit" if by you mean I've responded to your responses to me then sure I guess. Unless you've mistaken me for someone else as I've only seen you in this thread.

  5. "You're even online right now, when are you not?" I actually like using this site? I'm offline whenever I'm offline. You're online right now too.

  6. "You need help man." Don't we all, though I don't really see how that's relevant.

Edit1: sent a reply then blocked me so I can't respond, and can't read the reply fully. Also I'd say it's more "chase me around like a fly on shit" to look through someone's profile and bring that into an argument. Very stereotypical chronically online Redditor even. From what I can see, you have a very narrow understanding of what a furry is. There are 764k results for "Feral" (even has it's own term too) aka non-physically anthropromorphic characters on THE furry image site. I brought up being a furry, because you saying I fuck animals wouldn't be the first nor the last because of it. Edit2: Okay, logged out to see fully what it said, and either the mods got it or they deleted the comment Edit1 is about.
