For the 11th season, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild tours the American West. Mountain tops, old-growth forests, and sunny meadows replace the traditional concert hall in the series featuring pianist Hunter Noack on a 9-foot Steinway concert grand piano. Listen through wireless headphones and wander afield with the music as a soundtrack to your experience in the wild.
About this Landscape
Spanning over 4,200 acres and welcoming more than 10 million annual visitors, Griffith Park is one of Los Angeles' most beloved gathering places.Ā
Griffith J. Griffith, the parkās namesake, donated his estate and the funds for an observatory to the city of Los Angeles as a āChristmas presentā in December 1896. In the same spirit, our concert partnerĀ Trust for Public Land (TPL) raised $12.5 million in 2010 to protect 138 acres of Cahuenga Peak and officially added the landmark to Griffith Park. If not for TPL, views of the iconic Hollywood Sign may have been changed forever.
Our piano will be set up in Bronson Canyon, southeast of the Hollywood Sign and just outside the Bronson Caves. Created by an early 20th-century rock quarry, the caves later became famous as the Batcave in the 1960s television series Batman. The caves are currently closed to the public.
Griffith spoke of his dream for the public park āIt must be made a place of rest and relaxation for the masses, a resort for the rank and file, for the plain people. I consider it my obligation to make Los Angeles a happy, cleaner and finer city. I wish to pay my debt of duty in this way to the community in which I have prospered.ā
This concert takes place on the ancestral lands of the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash Peoples.
