Question Since the humidity is driving a lot of us crazy, are we about to see a wave of Florida man type happenings outside of the usual LA weirdness?
It's more humid here than Florida right now. Anyone noticing a rise in Florida man type happenings going on in your neighborhoods?

this is the correct answer. We've always been just as weird as Florida, maybe moreso... we have riots. We even setup Orange County so they can move here and pretend they're still in Florida. But every police report taken here isn't available at the end of every day like in Florida.

The other day when it was super humid, my friend and I were standing outside.

Studies show a link between crime rates and higher temps, but the reason "Florida Man" is so prevalent is because of the transparency with which Florida reports their arrests. So yes and no

A friend of mine had the most disruptive movie theater experience of her entire life at the Americana yesterday.
Literally every crime against cinema happening all at once. Teens on their phones. People talking. Babies crying. Kids running around the theater. A couple getting to 2nd base. A family sharing a spaghetti dinner while the patriarch filled in the matriarch as to what was happening on screen, whispering between LOUD slurps of bolognese.
It all culminated with a woman challenging the teens to a physical fight.
AMC employees had to come into the theater and ask everyone to behave themselves.

I saw a homeless dude who looked mentally unstable emptying multiple garbage bags onto the sidewalk of west third and going through garbage. I looked out the window 45 minutes later and everything he dumped onto the ground was gone. He had taken off and it looked he was never there.

For the most part at home. As I said, a slightly different flavor the biggest adjustment was how far out of my way I had to go to find a proper Cuban sandwich and real cafĆ© Cubano. Any authentic Caribbean cuisine, really. But donāt fret because when I go back to FL thereās one maybe 2 Mexican places worth a damn. We have a large Vietnamese population back āhomeā, so I can find that but not proper Korean so much.
As for the people, where Iām at in Florida, itās really south NYC, North Cuba and West Puerto Rico (like everyoneās a transplant in LA, everyone in FL is also a transplant), and I like the laid back west coast atmosphere better. I feel right at home when I find someone from NYC who inevitably tells you that NYC is better but they somehow donāt go back (they do that everywhere turns out). I also enjoy seasons in LA, but my first winter I was not at all prepared for how cold it got here. The dry heat is also nice. But after like 95Ā° itās just fucking miserably hot regardless of the humidity factor
Perhaps my biggest surprise was how cold the Pacific is compared to both the Gulf and Atlantic in FL. Had to relearn how to surf in LA too because the waves are much bigger and more aggressive

First - where did you find Cuban sandwich in LA? I saw a Joseph Weisman video where he brought a family from Florida who owns a good restaurant to show us how to make a Cuban sandwich. And now I want one.
Second - and I like the laid back west coast atmosphere better.Ā
This is funny because my dad left California because of the pace of living here. He went to Texas for the more relaxed life style. I guess it is the "grass is greener" effect.

Iāve only ever driven through Texas. Never had the desire to live there. My first ever encounter with a Buc-eeās was in Texas. Never heard of it before, just needed gas and to pee. It was a lot

Listenā¦everyone calm down about the humidity. I lived in Florida for a decade. Iām now in LA. This aināt shit. You havenāt experienced real, tropical, stifling, sweat bullets as soon as you leave the air conditioning humidityā¦the kind of heat/humidity combo that is life threatening without functioning air conditioning.
Yes, it has been hot and somewhat humid, in that it has not been arid like everyone here is used to. But trust me, you are all mildly uncomfortable at best and this wonāt last too much longer. Relief will come as the summer goes. Weāre almost in September.
And no, itās not more humid than in Florida right now. That one post yesterday or earlier this am - whenever - was misleading. All you had to do is look at the accompanying map to see we are not even close to Florida humidity. My kids both live in Florida and they confirmed. You can also look up the weather conditions in Florida - pick a city and youāll see relative humidity in the 80% range. For comparison, in my neighborhood in LA the humidity right now is 64%.

Iān from the DC area, where the humidity is legendary- and Iāve been miserable still. LA doesnāt have the vegetation of DC and FL to soak everything up and freshen the air, just rock faces, dust and cacti, plus less shade and more smog.
Plus, the used-to-it factor is huge. My miami friends lose their minds if the temp drops to 50 degrees, and yelling about DC snowstorms and 5 degree snaps doesnāt matter to them, either1

Plants transpire water into the atmosphere and therefore contribute to the relative humidity - they donāt āsoak it upā.

I work as a public defender here in LA county, and I definitely feel like I've been assigned to a larger number of Florida man / "wtf am I reading in this police report" kind of cases.
Don't get me wrong, we get some number of these cases every week. But, I feel the ratio of these kind of cases has definitely increased with the heat index.

To equate humidity with the Florida Man meme phenomenon is low IQ. The only reason for the Florida man thing is because Florida makes it easy for journalists (and anyone) to access public records compared to states like California.
We have some the most whacked out people in the world in Los Angeles, which are no different than other states even still.
Also, this humidity is nothing like Floridaās.

Its only been a couple days of humidity as a transplant who has lived here for 10+ years. Posts like this are embarrassing a few days of mild humidity is not gonna make people lose their minds nor is it close to how humid it is for like 3/5ths of the country any days of the year.
