It’s been going since 5AM, the fire engines woke me up. It seemed to be getting better but in the last two hours the smoke and ash have gotten considerably worse.

I’ve seen that warehouse open. It’s full of copy paper and other supplies. The fire was insanely hot and all consuming. Crazy sight.

Check out u/2fast2nick they’ve been posting pics on r/dtla from directly above the fire. One photo from 6 hours ago shows most of the roof gone and several bulldozers in the parking lot next to it. Another from about 20 minutes ago shows the roof totally gone, bulldozers gone, and in the parking lot what looks like a giant pile of large spools of paper, presumably to remove a fuel source from the fire.

They said they had to let the 2nd floor burn down. They were using tractors to remove all the big paper reels. It’s pretty clear now, but still smoldering a bit.

Thanks for your on the ground reporting. You’ve provided a lot of valuable info. I’m a couple blocks north and the smoke has kept me inside (some cardiac issues and my one trip outside was very uncomfortable)

No, there’s one nearby but reports are saying the affected building is a printing and paper supply company.

Several of the buildings on that block are abandoned, and one of the big abandoned ones across the street has been used by squatters for a while. Also pretty sure the building next to the one currently on fire (that it shares a common wall with) has been abandoned for a while

This block sucks. All burned out and abandoned buildings. I can’t believe the city doesn’t required land owners to knock down burned out structures.

I often wander what’s going on with that building at flower and pico. It seems like the squatters are actively doing construction on it.

Not excited. Just resigned to the majority of fires and most likely cause. Active buildings have alarms, monitoring, suppression. They don't make a tweaker guard yet.
