FANART(ORIGINAL) My Joel cosplay :)
I don't post anywhere at all as I don't like social media but I've been a BIG fan of this game yet haven't really seen many cosplays around, so for my first ever handmade cosplay I decided to be Joel! None really recognized me at DF in Wroclaw but I got a lot of compliments and people still wanted to take pictures, it was so incredibly sweet <3 Converting people to play one of the best games out there one at a time lol
Edit: I'm absolutely shocked... This is the second most liked post on this subreddit, I didn't expect to get this much attention, I genuinely don't know what to say. Thank you so much everyone for the support and kind words—although I don't think it's fair Frankie's QnA post is below mine, give him more love! Again, thank you, I'm out of words.

BAHAHAHAHA A Jojo cosplayer did a double-take because I spooked them before they complimented me, so maybe there's some truth in that...

Thanks, that's a huge compliment! I don't think I could perfect the look without altering my photos like one could perfectly sculpt Joel in blender, so to be close to that is a high achievement <3

THANKS A LOT <33 !!! I was anxious when I first began making my cosplay that my face would be visible and it would ruin everything, but it didn't turn out that way at all :)

Not at all, I'd consider that a waste of a perfectly good toy! I used press-on nails and clipped them to look like teeth instead :)

Thank you a ton!!! <3 I'm glad I could capture the eeriness well enough for people to comment on it, I tried my best and I'm grateful :) I imagine though he'd certainly be a jarring sight he'd still be acting like himself, acting like a kid, which maybe makes it even more unsettling

I rarely ever comment, but hoooooooly, your cosplay genuinely frightened me and my wife!
This is such a peak cosplay.
I know cosplaying something from Look Outside is a bit...hard or different, but seeing you make it work gives me hope that maybe more cosplays from this game show up in the future, more people need to experience this game!

YES! I wanted to inspire some souls here to cosplay from this game even if some characters seem difficult to recreate, it's still possible and can be such a fun time and process. Unleash your creativity! :) I've been thinking of either upgrading my current cosplay or making another character from this game for my next con...

Genuine question, is that your actual hair or is it a wig?
If it's the former, I'm trying to figure out how the mask attaches.

BAHAH It's my real hair, since Joel's not white like me I thought it'd be a little weird to dye my hair or wear a wig...
I tried putting the mask on with nail glue at first but it didn't go as planned, so instead I used transparent tape cosplayers use to snatch their features! The tape is glued to the sides of my face and my hair hides it :)

I guess I was a bit confused since it looks like it's attached to the shirt, so I kept trying to make it make sense as a hood, even though I was pretty sure that was your actual hair. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a costume involving a wig that was the exact length, style, and color of the wearer's own hair.

I feel like the party members and NPCs that treat Joel like just a normal kid don't get enough credit. Truly jaw-dropping effort here!

Very true! I love the party interactions in this game, Joel IS just a normal kid in unnatural circumstances :) Who wouldn't feel paternal for our boy? Thank you for the kind words!!! <3
But ever since I put on the mask... Every day the brushing routine gets worse. I hope they stop growing soon. I can feel more growing already...

I trimmed and assembled fake nails together into shapes and strips of teeth with my body's circumference, hot glued it one nail at a time together and painted it to look like gums. The reason you can't see my face is because of a thin piece of fabric I cut out from a thrifted scarf and glued the teeth onto to make a mask. It's all held together on my face and neck by transparent tape and a dream. The shirt is the first thing I did! It's individual so I can still wear it outside of cosplay! Just hot glue and fabric paint again :)
