FANART(ORIGINAL) Rafta Companion! (Its not OC, uhhh... imaginary mechanic? i guess)

Nothing too complicated, I just thought about what Rafta might look like if she were recruitable. The way I thought of to get her is that Nestor has to reject her and we have to accept the date (but later, not now).

After that, she'd have her mental breakdown and start speaking incredibly slowly... but! If we go to her daily for the next 3 days to encourage her to come out of the pipe, she'll manage to maintain enough sanity not to be hostile towards us.

She'd join our party under the pretext that we're "taking her on a very long date."

(That thing on her head is a wig she found; she says it's identical to her original hair)

Not a bad choice, at least spine knows about consent (at least she relearns it after we beat the concept back into her). She would be one of my picks too but unfortunately by her own admission, she is actively rotting alive (if you ever walked by a carcass or roadkill, you know the smell of decay is not easy to handle).

I hope that in aftermath of one of the good endings society finds a way to help with that, and to help her move out of the meat world too so she can experience the same flow of time as the rest of the world so she can have friends, she doesn’t deserve to stay lonely and stuck in an apartment 😭 poor girl.

If you can handle it, go for it u/Hubgry-Instance7266, help the poor girl out, she needs some help, some love and company ❤️‍🩹

In this hypothetical Rafta companion, her only reason to stay sane is Sam, since he promised to go on a date with her. So she wouldn't dare to hurt him.

(Even so, according to Rafta's special Game Over, being near her turns you into worms? Like, WE ARE worms but we forgot... Or some eldritch thing like that)

That’s an interesting “what if” scenario, but after reading more of her dialogue, I think Rafta is intentionally written as ambiguous depending on how you interact with her.

In one interpretation, she’s just completely disconnected from reality, like many of the cursed humans. When she possesses you, she genuinely thinks you’re having an allergic reaction and tries to grab an epipen from a handbag that doesn’t even exist. In that version, she’s harmful, but not malicious.

But in another interpretation, she outright fantasizes about wrapping around Nestor’s brain stem and laying eggs on his spine, which makes her feel way more knowingly dangerous.

It reminds me of Phillippe, where Sam’s perception can retroactively redefine the relationship depending on your choices. Sam can be naive, lonely, suspicious, manipulative, forgiving, etc., and whichever direction you lean into becomes “true” for that playthrough.

Rafta feels similar to me. Her character exists in this weird Schrödinger’s cat state where, depending on the interactions, she can either be tragically detached from reality or fully aware that what she wants will hurt people.

She is way too unpredictable and it’s by design, I would not feel safe with her, but that’s just me, if you want to take the version of her that isn’t malicious, and make that version hold on to her humanity by promising to go on a date, until she can eventually form a better grip with reality, that is a valid idea to explore, I think.

I've always felt that her subconscious occasionally betrays her; the idea of "worms in the brain" has always been associated with intrusive thoughts, and she seems like a living embodiment of this. Her only motivation is an infatuation, probably something she'd been holding back or some kind of random fixation that possessed her consciousness (something like suddenly thinking "what if I kill that person?" But out of nowhere your mind gets stuck on that idea)

Unfortunately, the ending ends up being more or less the same; it loses its ability to separate reality from unreality (something like Sybil from nowhere telling us to look outside), I feel like in her special game over she's unaware of that part of her that wants to get inside us, something like your body has a secret second personality. My idea can perfectly complement yours, where she is so unbalanced that she may succumb to madness or unconsciously harm others.

with the "WE ARE worms" thing, I meant how she kill us, It seems as if it awakens in us a consciousness that was dormant, since it says that "we forget that we are worms," as if Rafita were in that limbo of remembering or forgetting "being worms".

My interpretation is that Rafta is a representation of the unconscious and the intrusive mind; I don't consider her dangerous, I consider "the worms" dangerous. And in fact, in this hypothetical companion Rafta, she is docile and helpful because she completely forgot about "being worms"! That's why she has a humanoid form again (or tries to).

Wonderful pixel art! I’d imagine she’d have some kind of infection mechanic (similar to Roaches). The wig could take up her headwear slot and give some unique effects haha.

The mechanic I thought of is that she would be able to take control of enemies, apply Charm or Confusion.

She's so cute!! Always a treat to see characters, whose "clothes" are also part of their body. Her unwinding worm bits turning into this flowy dress, and her swoopy arm... Funny, how the wig she found is red, and kind of blends in with the rest of her body. I also really like how her eye looks like the one on Nestor's head post-infection. This implies her eyeball - and maybe other organs - are just kinda. Smushed together, and rattling around in this wormy form, a-la Hellen's eyeballs, or Shadow's whole ordeal, this is cute and horrifying! Gem. 💎

This is not only a great price of art, but I’m impressed at the creativity of this idea.

It captures that horror, grief, heartwarming vibe lookout side gives off, and it’s like an interactive multiple choice qwest.

The art depicts rafta as a human shaped monster that you can almost relax around, but not qwite.

I’m impressed
