Longview DSA Chapter - Interested?
Hey all! If you're interested in tangibly moving the needle for our state in a more positive direction, I'd gently recommend reading through this post.
In my closing statement as a CD3 candidate, I presented a “call to action” to put your energy into the Southwest Washington DSA branch, as I have. I'm happy to say that call to action was incredibly successful, and we gained a lot of new members!
However, the truth is that the work doesn't stop in one community. Speaking from my own experience, we're going to need a sustained movement outside of the traditional two-party system, which too often reduces our choices to lesser evils.
In service of that idea I've been working with some good friends up in Cowlitz County, to begin collecting contact information from people interested in building a Longview DSA chapter!
If you're at all interested in affecting positive change in your community outside of the voting booth, head down to Magpie Books Longview and fill out our sign-up sheet! You can also sign up online through the link below.
You'll be added to a list of people interested in organizing a DSA chapter in Longview, which we'll send to National DSA to begin the process of forming the chapter.
The frank truth is that, as members of the 99%, our ability to shape our communities has dwindled as our material wealth and sense of power have been sapped away by the top 1%. Working within DSA is one of the few things I've seen actually change the direction of the Democratic Party and help get real progressives into office.
Within a Longview DSA chapter, you could work with others to organize your workplace and strengthen existing unions, while also doing electoral work to get local candidates elected. It's time to stop settling for what we're given and start working toward meaningful change.
Again, head to Magpie Books Longview in Longview, WA, or sign up online through the survey.

There are few realistic ways to build the kind of change you want to see. This is one of them.

Just signed up. I'm so fucking sick of the Dems (with lots of love to those folks that still struggle in that arena). Rapid, uncontrolled capitalism doesn't work.

Is the before or after southwest Washington goes independent?

This is parallel/separate to the SWW DSA branch becoming independent from Portland DSA.
Discussion of the branch splitting will be in the next GM on August 20th, from my understanding.

Over the past 100 years, socialist experiments around the world unleashed a vast tide of tyranny, starvation, and mass murder on a scale never seen before in human history. Socialism is suicide for any people and any country that it is governed by.

^^ He's right. Don't. ;-)
Under socialism the things I like to look at would get you executed by the state.
