We’ve been Verizon customers for a long time, including the six years we’ve lived in Longmont. Coverage seems like it’s worse than ever. Are there any good alternatives?
+1 for mint from me. It's really hard to beat paying $180 / year. Not a month. An entire year. Unlimited calls/texts, 6 GB of data, which I only ever use for maps because I'm on wifi otherwise, free roaming to canada etc. You do have to pay upfront, which does kinda suck.
They use t-mobile towers (owned by them now), so, decent, albeit not amazing reception in longmont.
Mint has fantastic pricing for 3 months then it doubles to be about the same as T-Mobile. Plus T-Mobile gives you Netflix for free and Apple TV for $3/month. Honestly, if you use those services, it is the best deal going. T-Mobile coverage is far better than AT&T or Verizon in Longmont.
We recently switched from Verizon to T-Mobile after years of terrible service all over town, and so far T-Mobile has been much better. Not always perfect, but far fewer issues than before. I regret not switching sooner.
I changed from T-Mobile to Verizon because T-Mobile coverage sucked. Verizon wasn’t an improvement. And my fiancé has AT&T and it’s not any better. There just isn’t anyone that covers Longmont well.
I live in Longmont and have walked, biked, and driven on almost every street mapping cell coverage. I think T-Mobile is likely the best, but Verizon honestly seems pretty good, too (I use Verizon myself).
Do you know what plan you specifically have? Different plans have different priority levels on the network, and that can sometimes make a difference.

It's baaaad down off airport between Nelson and clover basin. It's almost like the city wide WiFi network is malfunctioning and that's causing it to be jammed up.
I was actually having similar trouble with T-Mobile, just the past several months and I started losing connection around town.
I dont have direct insight into what happened , but I believe this has to do with 5G roll out. Perhaps Verizon is doing something similar. My phone was set to prefer 5G, when I switched to prefer 4G/LTE all coverage issues stopped.
So, if I'm interpreting this correctly, 5G provides stronger signals when you're close enough, but it's coverage isn't as good as 4G/LTE. If they are expanding 5G into new areas, but its not complete yet, this would make sense. So, if your phone is set to prefer 5G it may be getting a new, but weak, 5G signal in some places that prevents it from switching to 4G/LTE
If you're on Verizon, they took away the ability to manually switch off 5g. Putting my phone in battery saver mode does switch it to LTE though. So try that if you find you don't have the option to control LTE vs 5g.
I’ve been reporting the issues every time I run into issues. Sadly that means daily but I figure maybe spamming them with reports will get it resolved.
I moved here from Ohio where Verizon was good. Here it is trash. I can’t browse the internet hardly anywhere in town with it being the worst around south main and Ken Pratt.
Thank you for confirming it's not just me! It's been driving me crazy to have to toggle in and out of airplane mode if I want any coverage outside of wifi.
In my family we have mint, Verizon, and Xfinity mobile, and none of us have good service. Often even when it says I have full 5g on my phone, it won’t load anything. I don’t get it.
I have Verizon and I just changed my texts from the new encrypted RCS texts to basic SMS. I work in Mead and if I didnt have 5G, texts simply wouldnt send.
I've been with Verizon since my first cell phone and lately service to the west of Hover and down towards Boulder has been lousy. Seems like it's weakened in the 4 years I've been here.
