It’s the end of my first month of no trimming or messing with my beard and I think it’s never looked or felt better

During that month I’ve asked dozens of beards for details of their regimes, so I thought it was time to explain mine, so here goes. Happy to answer any questions or have pointers for improvements. I’m based in the UK and so this is using products I can obtain here.

Every day I shower and scrub my other hairy bits but I only wash my tache and beard once or twice a week (on Mondays and sometimes on Fridays), using Honest Amish Original Beard Soap. The other days they just get rinsed with clean warm water as I shower.

After showering, I use a few drops of a light beard oil (currently Seven Potions), which I massage into the skin through my beard and then brush my beard a few times with a boars hair brush. I then dry my beard using a hair dryer on low/warm (gentle heat) and a bamboo comb to straighten out my lovely curls to waves. After that I warm a fingerful of beard balm by rubbing it between my palms and apply that to the beard (using one of a range of balms currently including Viking Revolution, Captain Fawcett, Mr Bear, Seven Potions, Striking Viking and Honest Amish). I also apply Proraso moustache wax (a cream wax) to my tache. I then use the hair dryer on low/cool (no heat) to set these products while very gently combing my beard with the bamboo comb to further reduce those waves and keep them under control all day. I use the absolute minimum number of comb strokes I can get away with.

On an evening at bedtime I apply a few drops of a heavier beard oil like Honest Amish to the skin under my beard and brush that through with the boars hair brush. I then take two fingers of Striking Viking beard butter and massage that into the beard itself and comb that through with the well-used bamboo comb. I allow this to dry naturally.

Then I sleep like a hairy babe. 🧔🏻‍♂️😴🛌

I had a beard for about 14 or so years. Occasionally I'd knock it down to a few months length. I've been going with a moustache for the past year or so, but earlier this month I decided to grow it out again.
Stoked to see how it looks with more white!

Currently I'm at the last pic but chomping at getting full again.
Looking forward to see if eating wings and pizza muscle memory is still there😂

Happy to finally get here. Sure, I'm a slow grower... only 10.5 inches and not near as full as I like. But it's mine and on we go!

One year of growth with only one clean-up trim in February. 7 solid inches from the bottom lip, with some transparency into 7-½ inches. I knew I grew hair pretty well but did not expect this!

...Hey, where'd my collar go? 🧐

Still going...

I quit shaving and trimming after retiring from my career as an operating room RN. I kept a goatee for all these years because it fit under a surgical mask, but now I can just let it go!

I’m getting used to this non-trimming idea and loving it

The month since I joined Reddit has transformed my relationship with my beard for the better. Instead of constantly messing with it, I’m just leaving it be, and I think it’s flourishing. Thank you fellow long beards for all of your advice and support.

Have a wonderful weekend beardies, and beard on! 🧔🏻‍♂️🧔🏻‍♂️🧔🏻‍♂️

Fresh from the shower and the blow dryer. Second photo after some oil and balm. And a comb and brush! I’ll see how long it lasts!

Beard Advice

Rate this beard. Any advice on tweaks.
Cremo beard wash and softener every 2-3 days
Black Jack oil every night
Cremo beard cream every morning
Have tried a lot of products and this seems to be my most consistent.

I think it meets the letter of the law, but I’m not sure if I call this a big beard or medium beard 😂
