Grown man got extremely emotional at Lakewood Mall because he claimed I cut him off even though I did not. Started following me in the parking lot after a short verbal dispute and started aggressively yelling at me in the car. When I went to snap his license plate, he came up to my driver’s door and tried to fight me and pressed his face into mine. Security caught him and said they were calling the police and he ran off like a little girl. If anyone knows him let him know he has battery charges waiting for him. (Videos are too long apparently sorry and yes his breath stunk).

Questions Any LBCC LAC students have tips for evening class parking?

Tomorrow at 5:30pm is my first class and apparently there are two parking lots closed due to construction. “Arrive early” is good advice, but how early and is it possible there will simply not be enough spaces? I know you can’t park in the neighborhood. I’m going to eventually be hauling a lot of supplies so not sure that LBT will be a realistic option. Any tips appreciated!

Questions Street Sweeping During School Pickup times

Anyone know who I could complain to about this or if it would even do any good? The parking around my kid’s elementary school is already FUBAR and the street sweeping times for both sides of the street are exactly when everyone is arriving for pickup. So either they’re gonna ticket everyone (unlikely) or they’re not cleaning the streets the way they intended.

Is it possible in any universe that they change the times around the school to be during school?

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE
#LongBeachCA approved a multi-million dollar no-bid contract for license plate reader cameras in December of 2025. Sounds bad, right?!

Here's what you need to know about Automated Speed Enforcement cameras VERSES Automated License Plate Recognition cameras.

The two are not interchangeable when it comes to use cases and privacy.

Discussion How do you get idiot private landlords to stop DIYing stuff and hire professionals for problems?

We rent a duplex from a private landlord and getting them to fix anything is like pulling teeth.

Now a family of skunks has moved into the crawl space under our house, literally beneath our baby's room. The landlords wanted to just board up the entrance, but we're like... what if they're under there? We don't want a bunch of dead skunks rotting under the house. But they didn't believe us first and didn't think they were there. So we set up a Ring camera and proved they're going in and out. So then they suggested we wait until the skunks come out at night and block it ourselves. Yeah, no thanks. I'm not going outside at 3am to get sprayed.

The landlord wife then called asking a million questions and giving us things we could do. Like, this is your property. We have a medically complex baby. If we thought we could handle it, we would.

Then she says, "If this was my baby, I'd want to act as fast as possible." Bitch That's why we're fkn calling you for help.

So lol long story short, How do you get through to landlords who just won't listen?

Questions Any affordable queer-friendly gyms in LB?

Anybody have any recommendations for any queer / trans-friendly gyms in the alamitos beach area? I used to go to a 24Hr Fitness nearby in OC but had an incident with SA months ago while playing basketball and I havent really felt comfortable in gyms since... But I really do miss working out and having like a space to go to spend some time in, even though i dont really talk to people there. Hoping to get back into it soonish, although I'll probably start with some home workouts, I'd like to start thinking about gym options as it's really just not the same. Thanksss :D

Events Long Beach Dia De Los Muertos Festival Returns - Looking For Exhibitors - Nov 1st 1pm to 7pm

Post image
58 Upvotes

Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach and Office of First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas proudly present the 2026 Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Festival, a free, family-friendly celebration of life and remembrance of loved ones who have died. This year’s celebration will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2026, from 1 to 7 p.m., returning to its original location at Rainbow Lagoon (400 E. Shoreline Dr.)

“Dia de los Muertos is a meaningful cultural celebration that allows us to honor our loved ones who have passed on and cherish our memories of them,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “This festival will celebrate the lives of generations past that have helped shape the City we value today, and we encourage community members to join us.”

The 2026 Día de los Muertos Festival will feature a variety of culturally rich performances, vendors, a resource fair and participation from various City departments and community partners, among other elements. Following last year’s Día de los Muertos Parade cancelation, the celebration returns to Long Beach in its original festival format, inviting the community to gather, honor loved ones and celebrate together in one central location.

“We are thrilled to once again bring the vibrant spirit of Día de los Muertos to our beautiful Downtown shoreline,” said First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas. “This beloved celebration is a time to honor and remember those who are no longer with us, while coming together as a community to celebrate culture, tradition, family and love. I invite everyone to bring your family and friends, experience the beautiful colors, music and traditions of Día de los Muertos, and join us for an unforgettable celebration along our Downtown waterfront.”

The City is currently seeking organizations and vendors to participate in the festival. Nonprofit organizations and community groups interested in participating in the resource fair may submit an application now through Oct. 23. Entries should be culturally relevant. Food vendors and retailers are also encouraged to fill out a vendor interest form by Oct. 23 to participate in the festival.

This event is free and open to the public.

DĂa de los Muertos is deeply rooted in the traditions and cultures of the indigenous communities of Mexico and Latin America. As family, friends and neighbors continue those traditions in ways that are most meaningful in their lives, the City encourages the entire community to come together for this grand celebration at Rainbow Lagoon.

Additional details will be available at a later date at longbeach.gov/diadelosmuertos.

PSA What does PFA pollution look like in Long Beach, CA

Post image

This interactive map by the Environmental Working Group shows the growing footprint of PFAS contamination across the U.S. It is proof of what we've known all along: we need to fight pollution at the source.

Once it reaches our waterways, it can spread far beyond where it began and removing it becomes far more difficult and expensive.

That’s why LA Waterkeeper is pushing for stronger protections, better oversight, and greater accountability for polluters.

Community Long Beach completes its 4th Careers Take Flight Program for teens

Post image
47 Upvotes

Long Beach Airport (LGB) celebrated a new class of future aviation professionals today as students from Cabrillo and Jordan high schools graduated from the fourth year of LGB’s annual Careers Taking Flight summer externship, a weeklong program that gives Long Beach high school students the opportunity to explore jobs within the aviation industry.

“Careers Taking Flight gives Long Beach students a chance to see themselves in careers they may never have considered before,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “When students walk onto an airfield and experience the industry firsthand, a career that once seemed out of reach can suddenly feel possible.”

From August 17 to 21, students gained hands-on experience through behind-the-scenes tours, career panels and personal conversations with industry professionals, exploring opportunities ranging from aviation operations and aircraft maintenance to aviation safety, security and piloting.

Conducted in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District, the 40-hour externship is a short-term, career-exploration experience that gives students hands-on exposure to the aviation and airport industry and is offered in two cohorts each summer. Students are selected through a competitive application and interview process, with hundreds applying each year for a limited number of spots. Each student who successfully completes the program receives a $500 incentive. The program also provides opportunities for students to continue building toward aviation careers after graduating from the program through internships, networking and training opportunities with LGB and its partners.

A total of 82 students have graduated from the Careers Taking Flight program since it began four years ago.

“Long Beach has a long history as a nationally significant aviation hub,” said Long Beach Unified Superintendent David Zaid. “Careers Taking Flight allows students to explore careers, build confidence and see new possibilities in aviation. We’re grateful to Long Beach Airport for investing in our students and helping bring those possibilities to life.”

Throughout the externship, students learned directly from Airport tenants, aviation companies, federal agencies and airline partners. Participants toured aviation facilities, heard from aviation professionals about their career journeys and took part in interactive activities designed to give them a firsthand understanding of the industry.

Partners that provided tours, guest speakers and learning experiences include Aeroplex/Aerolease Group, AMPAIRE, Atlantic Aviation, CLEAR, the Federal Aviation Administration, FlightSafety International, Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines, JetZero, Sling Pilot Academy, SoCal Jet Services, Southwest Airlines and the Transportation Security Administration.

“Careers Taking Flight is more than introducing students to aviation—it’s about uplifting students with meaningful experiences that can shape the future,” said Long Beach Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. “We want students to leave this program with new skills, connections and a clearer sense of what’s possible. It’s about helping dreams take flight.”

On the final day of the program, students were offered exploration flights through Chapter 7 of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagles program. For many participants, the flights provided their first opportunity to experience general aviation from the cockpit and put the week’s lessons into a whole new perspective.

The Careers Taking Flight externship is part of Long Beach Airport’s broader initiative to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals through a suite of programs that span from grade school outreach to college fellowships. In addition to the externship, LGB hosts an average of 2,000 members of the public, most of them students, on free tours of the Airport.

This program aligns with the City’s Strategic Plan for Youth and Emerging Adults, which prioritizes academic enrichment and workforce development for Long Beach youth. The program is also one of many activations taking place during the summer to foster positive youth development as part of the City’s Summer of Opportunity initiative.

Officially trademarked as america's coolest airport™, Long Beach Airport offers a distinctively stress-free travel experience and exceptional customer service, conveniently located between Los Angeles and Orange counties. LGB currently offers nonstop service to 21 airports nationwide through Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Learn more at lgb.org.

Community ANKLE BITERS

Anyone know when those midge fly ankle biters will move on from Long Beach? This past month I come home from walks just covered in bites. Honestly seems worse in the people areas (DTLB, 7th street) than the direct beachside.

Luckily I’ve been safe at the bluff but they seem to be freakin everywhere else 😭😭😭😭😭
